Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
cal1br3tto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha, I like you guys' name suggestions. Sounds like HW had plenty of fitting ideas to choose from. -
Yes, yes, you do. So...turtles.

Well, I did it. I intentionally observed 11:11, 11/11/11. Anybody else do the same?

^Well, good bumper cars and bad wooden roller coasters are both more harmful, thankfully. Edit: Okay, that hurts. I must sadly retract the favorable comparison to violent amusement rides.
-
^Thanks! And here's hoping that does not happen to you or anyone else.

1. Yankee Cannonball. Powerful (and at times painful) airtime on this simple little ride. 2. Mine of Lost Souls. Yes, the varied theming is odd, but this dark ride seems unusually long, complex and well-developed for such a modest park. Some other notable rides: I'm grateful the park preserved their Caterpillar. Tame but charming. Starblaster had an excellent pop of airtime. Untamed has the typical great Eurofighter first drop, but it's otherwise quite tame and can be painful. Turkish Twist is probably the second best Rotor I've ridden. They're always fun to check out.

I got hit by a car.

Russia to build Vekoma GIB in Sochi
cal1br3tto replied to Gutterflower's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I can't complain about new GIBs! Maybe I need to go to Russia (not just for this). -

Well that's a cute name, and fairly creative. I like the logo. -
Does anyone still use TripAdvisor on FB? It's still fun even though it's harder to share your map now that tabs are gone. It tells me I have visited 172 cities. Of course, since I'm the one keeping track, this includes airports, drive-throughs and other cases where I didn't see the city proper, and all the random towns in my state I recall visiting.

Yes. I need to catch this more often.

^It will be interesting to try this style if they do get it. This category of ride is really hit or miss for me, with the Falling Star and Rainbow variants generally being the best, and most of the others ranging from mediocre to bad. I didn't care for Crazy Surf as the lats were, well, crazy heavy, and it didn't offer much else. Fun to try, though.

Indiana Beach (IB) Discussion Thread
cal1br3tto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Damnit. Even before I feared it was endangered, Indiana Beach was definitely on my list of parks to revisit. My hopes are the same as always: that the park continues to operate, keeping what I love while also improving. -
YES! I totally watched that episode the other day. It was cute.

Half a Grape Faygo (but not the second half from the last time I posted about this flavor).

Crackling Fireplace - Aire Freshener Oh wait, that's not a song, that's just a recording of a crackling fireplace. So gratifying... (Aire Freshener would be a terrible band name.)

TPR 2012 Tour Flyers, Details & FAQ!

I'm likin' this Big Update. Thanks! -
Don't EVEN tease me about that. Not something I want to think about unless it's actually going to happen. At any rate, I'm looking forward to learning what will replace Log Jammer. But I guess I can wait, and even be fine if it's not a coaster, since I still need several credits at the park anyway and there are no guarantees that a single visit would net me all of them (especially since two of them are second sides of double-tracks). Log flumes are fine by me, but I willingly skip even ones that look or sound good. Jet Stream is fun and slightly charming, but I recall it seeming a bit run-down.

Andy Shine's Quiz Time
cal1br3tto replied to Simon Baynham's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I got 13/20, and there were a couple more I almost answered correctly. Despite my low score, I went through the quiz thinking "Wait, I really know that? Why?" -
I hope this doesn't spell the end for Dippin' Dots...sure, I rarely buy 'em, but I always found them refreshing. The greatest deal I ever came across was at Silver Dollar City, where a Dippin' Dots cone was cheaper than the standard large size, but clearly was loaded with more of the snack. Perfect value! Like Chris and Chris (but not Chris)... I used my voucher at Dorney on the Dots. (Loved that program since it meant I could get meals I enjoy at home, like Subway.) I got the cookie dough with bonus cookie dough bits, for the win.

I've been pondering where El Toro's first drop stands in my mind, since I love the coaster, but not quite to the extent that others do. I have to conclude that it is, indeed, one of the best first drops in the wooden coaster world. It also seems that many wooden coasters have an average or even lackluster first drop. Coaster at Playland is well-known for having a surprisingly tame first dip, making the following ones all the more dramatic. I believe Boulder Dash doesn't get wild until some point after the first drop. On the other hand, Timber Terror tends to have an amazing first drop in the back seat (but don't let that inspire you to ignore the front seat). I recall Voyage having either two or three airtime-filled drops at the beginning of the ride, kind of like a deadlier, longer and more complex El Toro.

What is the worst Theme Park in the world?
cal1br3tto replied to martinb's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even as a dedicated fan of carnivals, I can't exactly disagree. Practically every carny stereotype I've heard of is something I've seen in person. And yes, this includes haggard people with missing teeth, including, in some cases, four or fewer remaining teeth. Not that I want to judge too harshly; it's not my life...
