  1. I have family that lives in Pflugerville! I guess I'll have to go visit the park. . . I mean my family. And before this gets asked, believe me it does, the city is pronounced 'floo-ger-vill', with a strong G.
  2. I specified otherwise in my previous contention...
  3. Togo's tend to be very rough, painful, and uncomfortable rides (except the Ultra Twisters). Go on YouTube and watch Robb's video on Manhattan Express and you'll understand. Togo also manufactured Viper at SFGAd, which was also rough as well from what I hear. Overall, Togo rides just aren't the greatest.
  4. Very interesting concept. Looks like Diving Coaster Vanish mashed up with Titan at SFOT. It would have been sort of an interesting ride experience; but, it's a Togo. It probably would have been a painful one. It looks like this area was developed into what is now occupied by Superman, which is by far a better investment. Thanks for sharing this!
  5. ^yes, yes, yes, a million times yes. Bees everywhere. Stay away from the trashcans if you plan on visiting the park. People dump their sodas there and it's heaven for the bees.
  6. Spent the day at the park today, and it was a hot one. A park guest directly in front of me passed out while waiting for the Boomerang, and before I began to administer first aid (I am certified lifeguard/CPR/AED/first aid), this guy came and was like, "yeah, I used I be a boys scout," and took over. Out of respect for the park guest, I stepped aside as to not crowd her personal space and possibly make the situation more embarrassing for her as everyone in line was watching. The line never got passed the three switchbacks next to the station so everyone in line was clustered and saw her go down. She hopped right back up, walked into the station and later was just as fine as she was before, even laughing about it. Here's the map out of the day: Goliath- x2, 10mins, one train operation- The line was longer in the morning, and later in the afternoon at 6pm was a walk on, but it was my sister's (age 11) first time on it, and first time on a B&M invert. She liked it. It's the 3rd batman clone I've been on, but I still enjoy it and find it to be forceful. Boomerang- x2, 10mins/walk on- Yes, I rode the Boomerang. It's usually a one and done for me, but the first time was to ride with my GP-ish cousin and the second was also my sisters first time on the ride and her first time going backwards. Again, she liked it! Poltergeist- 1x, 10mins, one train operation- I waited for the front. My GP-ish cousin did not expect the launch to be as forceful as it was. Hilarity ensued. Still runs great! Superman- 2x, 10mins/walk on, two train operation- Waited for the front first time, second time snagged an empty row with my sister. It definately has the rattle, but it could be worse. The paint is real faded at the top of the lift/ turnaround and the interlocking corkscrews. Paint doesn't matter too much but it sure looks nice when a coaster is all freshly painted. Twister- 1x, walk on- the only flat I rode today. I actually enjoyed it. It didn't hurt my thighs, but it was very crowded on the ride; I felt like my personal space was violated almost. Kind of like an "in my bubble" feeling but it was bearable. Tony Hawk's Big Spin Pandemonium- 1x, 5mins, 4 cars- Getting bumpy, but still nice. Younger cousin (age 9) loved it! Scream- 1x, 15mins, 2 towers- When my cousin and I entered the queue, one tower was open, but they opened up a second one and got the line moving. Although smaller, I find it more intense that S:TOP up in Arlington. Road Runner- 1x, walk on, 2 train operation- I love this ride. Bumpy, but brings memories. It's older, I didn't expect it to be smooth. Perfect family ride. Bugs Bunny Log Flume- 1x, walk on, several boats- they're ere doing a leave one empty, load, empty, load pattern, but the line never got long. I rode to ride with the family. Nice flume! Great theming and you don't get too wet which is always a big one for me. I love the splash, but love it even more when it's directed away from the boats! Rockville show- The performers can actually sing! Short, but entertaining and the family enjoyed it. Iron Rattler was closed, and I was asked by a park surveyer if I planned to ride, and I just replied yes even though I knew it was closed. Disappointing for sure, but I got to ride it for the travel channel film shoot so I wasn't too disappointed. It will be there next time. Let her rest. Park operations were 9/10. Few employees seemed like they didn't want to he there but all the others were enthusiastic, happy, and ready to work. Props to the Boomerang ops who were working at the time of the medical emergency for handling it well. They apologized for the delay and kept the line moving well after the incident. Crowds were minimal and the park was clean. Definately worth the visit! Always fun to go to Fiesta Texas, ad it's nice to see a park that's beautiful as well. The waterfalls were running today. As always, I had a great time!
  7. Were the stats they used global or North American? It should be taken into consideration the quality of rides in the US and more developed countries compared to underdeveloped and third world countries. Didn't someone in Cambodia recently die, and when a picture of the ride surfaced, it was run down and looked poorly maintained? If it wasn't already, they should have only compared North American statistics (just because NTAG is in North America). Saying all rides are unsafe kind of included the outliers (coasters in underdeveloped countries that lack some sort of regulation whether it be federal or not.) This could have influenced the statistics in favor of rides being unsafe when in reality, North American casualties happen once in a blue moon.
  8. Glad to hear we share the same opinion here. I just felt her being a WSI felt out if place and irrelevant. To me, it's like saying "oh, you were on the elementary school safety patrol. You must know EVERYTHING about safety." Amusement Park safety and Water safety are just two completely different subjects.
  9. Very happy with the verdict. Of course, the people who said they were unsafe were the older folks but what was it with the Water Safety Instructor?! IMHO, there is no correlation between amusement park safety and being a Water Safety Instructor and I say this from experience. I am 16, a lifeguard employed by my school district working at the district Natatorium surrounded by water safety instructors younger than me (many i've swam varsity swimming with) and I will most likely earn my Water Safety Instructor certification next year. I'm sorry, I was absolutely blown away by that. Last time I checked, teaching a 5 year old to float on their back is in no way correlated to amusement park safety. That just bugged me the whole debate. I have no idea why they made such a big deal out of it.
  10. There's no way her femurs could have broken. The human femur takes around 160 PSI to break. It just doesn't seem possible. Plus, she has two femurs meaning there has to be a total amount of 320 PSI for both to break simultaneously considering the force is divided equally among the two femurs (it's like lifting a 100 pound object, 100 pounds lifting it yourself, 50 pounds each if you have a buddy.) That, and although called a lap bar, they tend to sit at the waist putting the pressure elsewhere anyways.
  11. Nice report! I rode Judge Roy Scream last season and did find it to be quite rough. I have to disagree with you on the 'topper track or knock it down" thing though. It's the only wooden coaster the park has. It has some nostalgia to it and it's quite photogenic IMHO. I do agree with you on that it needs some work. Some fresh wood here and there would be nice! Topper track does miracles, but I would rather see this ride preserved rather than modernized. Seeing this report really makes me want to go back! I love this park!
  12. During the Iron Rattler Travel Channel film shoot, the same 20 or so people (me included) marathoned the ride for about 2 hours. I have no idea how many times I rode that thing but given how it's such a short ride, it had to have been quite a few.
  13. Actually, today! . . . but they were flats. I got Drop Zone and the Inverter (Larson Super Shot and Chance Inverter) to myself at the Kemah Boardwalk. Not very crowded at all today.
  14. IMHO, Six Flags Magic Mountain could stay just as it is and be fine for 10 years. They could use that time to focus on aesthetic improvements to the park (ie. paint jobs, landscaping, path refurbishments [which really aren't that necessary]); however, Six Flags has that 'new addition every year' so in the upcoming years, I agree; we will probably see a flat here and there , New Iron Colossus, and they may put more attention into their shows, but now that Full Throttle is open I don't think we will see a major addition for a while (minus New Iron Colossus). Something along the lines of Maverick is way out of the picture.
  15. I actually have a similar experience. My very close friend, practically family, of 10 years was killed in a car accident at the age of 17 on the way home from swim practice on April 17th; prom and graduation just weeks away. She was driving distracted. It was and still is the hardest thing for me right now, especially because I spent half of my life with her. However, before she died, and this wasn't the day before, but maybe a year or two, I ran into her and her family by chance at Fiesta Texas. It absolutely blew my mind; neither of us knew we were both in San Antonio. I have so many memories that I treasure from that day and since she was called home I think of them all the time; especially when we rode The Rattler and her expression when we got off! A month after she passed, I rode the Iron Rattler for the Travel Channel and was flooded with awesome memories I had had of us together from that day. You will certainly be in my prayers as I know that it is not an easy time. My suggestion, and you don't have to as everyone is different, when the time is right, go back to SFDK. It feels a lot better going with a guardian angel! There's just something about amusement parks that creates incredible lifelong memories. . .
  16. Hold on while I add Cosmoworld to my bucket list. . . Seriously though, the setting looks absolutely breathtaking. One side looks like a lake and the other the tallest building in Japan. The park has some really unique attractions and by the looks of it, awesome management! This Japan Tour just looks like its getting better and better.
  17. Superman had a small rattle when I rode it for the travel channel shoot but it wasn't anything that would warrant me to complain about it. The ride is still running great; it's smooth, fast, and for 13 years old now aging quite well . . . except for the paint. It needs some Baynum love very badly. The turn going into the first drop off the cliff shows bare grey steel and the rest of the red paint is very faded, almost maroon.
  18. WOW . . . that video. I know it's sort of cliché to say "this looks like someone designed this in Roller Coaster Tycoon" but man this really does look like someone designed this in Roller Coaster Tycoon. This reminds me a lot of the Looping Toboggan . . .
  19. I have a very good friend that lives in Taiwan who I met while she was a ride operator at the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier for a few months, and being the enthusiast I am, I really want to visit her in Taiwan and experience the parks there. I'm loving these mini reports, Robb! I've really only seen google earth images of the parks, so the videos and (high quality) pictures are nice! Thank you so much and safe travels to all of you!
  20. ^Nice Report! I am very excited for Falcon's Fury. The ride experience is going to be so drastically different than anything else. I most likely wont get to ride it unless I beg for another family vacation back to Florida but nonetheless, this is very exciting! Props to Intamin for this concept! It should be very interesting how this all plays out: from construction to first tests. This seems like it will be VERY successful.
  21. I like the little improvements they've made to the ride, and from what I've just read it has made quite the difference. At first I was unsure about the addition but now that construction is complete it is safe to say they did an excellent job. The setting is great, and I agree with a lot of other people here; the paint job looks great!
  22. OK, so if I'm not mistaken, the footage shot recently for Insane Coaster Wars on the Iron Rattler and Outlaw Run won't air this season, but next season, right? I'll have to set my DVR! The selection of rollercoasters for this season is very nice!
  23. I know at SFOT on Batman, I'm almost positive they tell you not to even touch the seat let until the train had made a complete stop. I've heard them threaten to eject people from the park before. It's a park to park thing really, especially in the Six Flags chain. Each park is very different in maintenance, service, cleanliness, etc. The policies are slightly different.
  24. Tomorrows my last day of Junior Year... who needs sleep? My favorite part of the Iron Rattler is the 'Zero-G Barrel Roll' (as they call it) because it looks like a zero-g-roll but feels so different. It feels much more drawn out similar to a barrel roll, so for the majority of the duration of the element you are hanging, and yes, your butt leaves the seat. It's not like a B&M barrel roll which are sharp and quick; Iron Rattler's feels longer and the feeling you get when your hanging with nothing but a lap bar is by far one of the coolest feelings ever. It also plays kind of a mind trick; when you enter the element, you're give or take 110-125 feet off the ground (my best guestimate), and when you exit the element, you're at ground level. It's kind of a 'what just happened moment'.
  25. SFOT website lists Shock Wave as temporarily closed.
