  1. Boston.com has put up a nice set of Photos of Oktoberfest in the "The Big Picture" section. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/09/oktoberfest_2010.html
  2. Sorry to bring up last year's speculation, but that staircase was used for the Wildcat: http://www.flickr.com/photos/andrewb94/4670868632/ And the so called "Track" is actually things they use to store the paddle wheel boats on top of over the winter.
  3. I think that "Love Shack" made this POV even better! Makes me happy that I sort of contributed in the making of this POV as I had to clean the flume last week to get it ready to be filled with water. Good Stuff!
  4. Cedar Point does not need one... They already have several coasters that would fit that type of ride very well, like Maverick. My choice for a Mega-Lite would be Holiday World. They are like the perfect market for this type of ride. They are a moderate park in size, but they don't need the crazy capacity a park like Cedar Point is looking for. Plus, they have worked with Intamin in the past and don't have any substantial steel coasters. Another park, for many of the same reasons, would be Mt. Olympus in the Dells. Of the Cedar Fair parks, I could see a few getting one. Michigan's Adventure, Dorney Park, Knotts Berry Farm and Worlds of Fun fit the market pretty well in my mind.
  5. I would say that in their defense they had a lot of bad luck this year weather wise. I can only remember only a few good weather Saturdays all season. I can also only remember only one or two good Halloweekend Saturdays. I'm not saying weather was the only problem, but I'm sure that they would have at least had 3 million if the weather was less crappy on the weekends in 2009.
  6. Another update, as things are moving smoothly at the STR Construction Site. Straight from Cedar Point themselves, we have pictures and a new blog. BLOG UPDATE Rock work in the final splash pool is complete. The final run-out. Workers are planting trees all around the ride site. TREEEEEEES! More trees near the first lift hill. MORE TREEEEEES! Inside the station, workers are cleaning up, preparing for queue line. The entrance ramp to the station. The left side is for our Special Access guests. Crews from Cedar Point and IntaRide test the drive wheels in the station. The final turn into the station. I FOUND MORE TREEEEEEES! Crews are cleaning each splash pool in preparation for filling. The rock canyon on the island is ready. Coming soon, Water
  7. Awesome pictures, thank you for sharing! I cant wait to ride this thing next weekend!
  8. This project get more and more impressive every time I look at it. At first I was happy that the park was getting what everyone was asking for, a new family friendly water ride to replace WWL. Now I'm really excited to see how this changes the look of this area of the park. I have seen the ride in person and I wont lie, its massive... it may seem like a small scale ride, but really the thing is massive. You can see it from the Perimeter Road surrounding the park, all the way around for the most part. I'm also glad to see a lot of the rock work is still going along as planned and they didn't cut it out of the budget, like we saw with Maverick. I'm also looking forward to seeing what they plan to do with landscaping, as I believed Maverick was a step in a new direction for them as far as landscaping a new ride. Maverick is already starting to settle in with its new landscaping and it looks great!

  10. First, I would like to Welcome you to the team! You are on your way to possibly the most exciting summer of your life full of fun, games, hard work and new long lasting friendships! Cedar Point literally provides you with the work experience for literally everything, as long as you treat your job with the respect it deserves. I cant tell you how many times I have brought up Cedar Point as a reference in an interview for a job to answer questions. This year will be my Third season with the park, where I will be the Team Leader in Area One Sweeps, yes Sweeps. See, little does many people know, the Sweep division is actually managed by those who manage the rides in the park. The previous years I did my time on the coasters, carousels and kiddie rides... I was Assistant Team Leader on Raptor last year and had the best summer of my life, thats for sure. If I had to give any advice it would be to be willing to do almost anything for the people you work with and don't complain. The easiest and best way to gain respect from your managers, supervisors and leadership team is to not complain and do the job they ask you to do. If they ask you to be a Sweep for the week, give it a try... you may actually enjoy the break from the ride. If there is a months worth of chewing cum that is in need of disposal, get the job done with no questions asked. Cleaning without being asked is one of my favorite things to see as a leader, which in turn makes me pass the word along to my manager on your good work ethnic. If you become well respected the more likely you are to move up within the company if you plan on returning, or even they will at least accept some of your requests like time of and cross-training on your favorite ride. Also, another word of advice... Your crew will become your family. Once you get to know each other and tolerate being around each other your crew eventually just becomes your family. I for one liked going to work on a daily basis just so I could see my "Family" at the ride, made it feel a lot less like a job and more like a home. Get close with your crew and it won't feel like work or just a job, it will feel like a whole lot more.
  11. GM.TV POV Footage Above is a video of the ride... Spoiler, this is a POV so if you want to ride it for yourself then don't watch.
  12. First time I have seen this thread and thought I would share my park info! 2008 - Cedar Point - Mantis (Contracted Ride) and was also trained at Millennium Force, Raptor, Skyride and Planet Snoopy 2009 - Cedar Point - Raptor (Assistant Team Leader) and was also trained at Skyride, Maverick and Planet Snoopy 2010 - Cedar Point - Sweeps (Team Leader) I'm very excited for this season, I am looking forward to being out on the midways! If you visit, look for me (Tall guy in a yellow uniform with a radio). I will be roving around the front of the park, from the main entrance all the way along the main midway!
  13. Well from what I have heard, it is cheaper to tear out the trees and plant new ones after you are done building. Look at Maverick, they planted trees around the ride which are already starting to grow in nicely. It will look bare for a few years, but once the planted trees have time to grow it will look significantly better.
  14. More Construction photos today... looks like they are taking great advantage of the coaster-riding weather we have had the past few days! All those poor trees, GONE! On-ride photo to the left Final Turn of the Flume View down the station Flume to Lift 1 Station work is underway Concrete, Concrete and MORE Concrete... here is where the "Rock Work" will be located First drops splash down pool is getting its track and guides installed
  15. My Baby... THE Raptor at Cedar Point! I miss riding this beautiful machine every day! Raptor Restricted Area FUN
  16. A Message From Cedar Point http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upseNeYXxps
  17. I am still fairly new to the whole Coaster Enthusiast thing, being I started really getting into it in 2007. Maverick at Cedar Point started my obsession, following the construction from start to finish and then being on of the firsts to ride it. Then the following year I devoted the next summer operating one of these lovely machines by the name of Mantis at Cedar Point. You see thousands upon thousands of people daily, who sometimes are either the greatest personalities you will meet or the worst. One of my favorite things to do while working was to read T-Shirts and that's how I stumbled across TPR. I always saw the Theme Park Review T-Shirts filtering in and out of Cedar Point every so often. I got Curious, found the site and began lurking and reading. I fell in love with the community from the start and decided to make my own contributions to the site. I always was a small part of Pointbuzz and always hated how they treated their users and it was a breath of fresh air to see Rob treat everyone with respect and have fun doing it. Thanks again, its been great so far!
  18. I would have to guess that Mantis is open because of Walter being there that evening for his Keynote... Maybe he will be doing rounds to his coasters that night?
  19. Cedar Point announced details for its 2010 CoasterMania! Event. Looks like they are keeping last years format for the most part and keeping it a 2-Day event, June 4th - June 5th. 21. Someone thought it would be funny to glue Googly Eyes to the Panda on the Panda Express Sign at Cedar Point. I get a kick out of it every time I pass it. It looks better this way to, I think. There is also a Googly Eye on the horse of Mavericks sign, but its not nearly as good as the Panda. Panda Express Googly Eye
  22. What are you going to tell us next? That the construction/engineering crew that builds a new coaster rides it before the public. Thanks for the keen insight! Or all managers, every employee and there mom and executives like some snake nearby....
  23. As a Cedar Point employee I can understand both sides here. I know that I would rather have my employees be safe and careful on their first few days on the job, than rush their way checking a train and put someones life at risk. If there is anyone to blame, it would be ride managers and supervisors for inefficient operations. It's up to them to keep the crew organized, and if there is a problem to quickly solve the problem. I was always told that having a train stack for more than a second is to much, we want to get as many people on the ride as we can so they can go on and enjoy more rides around the park. At Cedar Point our daily numbers are closely watched by all levels of park operations, if they see our numbers slipping we are instructed to improve them or there may be consequences. Last year was my first year as a worker on a coaster, Mantis to be exact. Opening day was the hardest day for me, because having loaded seats with real people is so much different than how it was during training. It also takes a few days to get used to how the ride paces itself so you can pace yourself properly during safety checks for each train. Once the season was a few weeks in I learned how to work the ride more efficiently, as did most of the crew.
  24. They should at least be Dispatching by the time the first train reaches the MCBR. On B&M's they have the ability to dispatch as soon as the lift block clears, this would be the ideal dispatch interval. Saturday was a terrible day of operation, but for opening day they did their best. I'd rather see them get used to the ride and be safe before they start rushing their way through safety checks. It seems like the restraining system is slowing them down the most though, having to look for the line and having the safety system green light the restraint for dispatch.
