  2. WOW, I look like a donkey ass now. haha. Well the Cedars Dorms are nice to have on point for employees without transport to and from work. Mostly the international employees end up there as it is. They are in dire need or major renovation though so I can foresee them being one of the next of the old structures to go, but I can also see them being rebuilt in the same location or moved to a smaller plot of land. Them and Golds Dorms by the water tower...
  3. I would not be okay if they retired Cedar Downs. Its the unique rides that make each park for me and Cedar Downs is about as unique as they come.
  4. Cedar Point's General manager, John Hildebrandt, is now on Twitter and he will be tweeting about updates and news for the park in the upcoming season. He has two tweets so far... Looks like the cries for a renovated Giant Wheel have been answered and will be incorporated in their new night time show, "Luminosity!". It also appears Cedar point wants to keep Terror Island and move it else where. I'm glad they decided to keep the haunt themed area because its probably my favorite of all the fright zones.
  5. Also, Matt said they have a new marketing plan in the works. Cedar Fair used to work with YellowSubmarine Marketing, but it was mentioned in a recent presentation they are working with a new Ad Agency for this year. Here is a look at some new page ads from the presentation for Cedar Point... I for one love the new feel of these ads. It really captures the experiences people really go through while visiting the park.
  6. Oops, forgot to add that in the list! I will agree with you, and I know many people also agree that the loss of PWE is a big loss. It was a unique ride for the park and the company and its a lost experience. I am honestly it lasted as long as it did though, without any updating. I would like to see this type of ride return in the future if Dinosaurs Alive is a temporary thing... but the only reason Cedar Point is getting Dinos in 2012 is because it performed well at Kings Island.
  7. Here's a small recap of what (so far) you can expect to see as far as new Changes for 2012 1.) Dinosaurs Alive (New Attraction for Cedar Point) Adventure Island (Formerly known as Millennium Island), a prehistoric-themed attracition featuring over 50 life-size anamatronic dinosaurs. 2.) Proslide MatRacer (New Attraction for Soak City) An Eight Lane MatRacer will take the place of the old Speed Slides in the waterpark 3.) New Night Time Show - "Luminosity - Light Up the Night!" No details on this show yet but it was said in a recent presentation it is easily reprogram-able (Seasonally and Annually) and will give them an opportunity to improve upon lighting and sound throughout the park. The show is meant to keep guest in the park as much as possible and possibly keep them on property longer. I wonder how much different this will be compared to the old show... Could we be looking at something along the lines of World of Color? 4.) New Premium Options for Guests Assuming this will mean new programs for guests who are willing to pay additional money to better their experience in the park, Example - Fast Lane 5.) Improved Food Quality (Not only for Cedar Point, but for ALL parks) Mr. Ouimet mentioned this in a recent presentation, for example, all food service stations will now use "fresh, never frozen, burger patties" 6.) New Website Design and Purchasing System Recent launch of a new webdesign to simplify the guest experience and streamline their planning and search for information. One of the notable things I noticed is if you purchase on line (or pre-purchase tickets) you receive a discount. Gate prices have increased to 51.99 on location, but they are $7 cheaper online at $44.99. These tickets are also good-any-day, where in the past most discounts were specific to a certain day of the week or on a pre-picked day.

  9. So when you say we cant remove any scenery, does this include trees? First time doing this so I just am making sure.
  10. This just occurred to me. Having Ocean Motion moved to its new location and themed up will make Hurricane Hannah's seem a little less awkward... I am glad to see them refreshing an old ride like this rather than just plopping it down and calling it a day. Cant wait to see it all finished! Also, here are the LARGER images if you want a closer look. http://www.cedarpoint.com/_upload/blog//OM_ModelSign.jpg http://www.cedarpoint.com/_upload/blog//OM_ModelTop.jpg http://www.cedarpoint.com/_upload/blog//OM_ModelClose.jpg
  11. Some new photos from the park this week. The first is a surprise! New Paint is showing up on Millennium Force. Looks to be about 1/3 of the way up the lift already (in the pic)... as well as all the way back down through the station, all the way to the final tunnel (observed). Photos are courtesy of Adam form Pointbuzz who attended an event this past Saturday. Also, Windseeker is now VERTICAL (even more....) Two more pieces went up yesterday. The Ride is now visible from the causeway, Its so large. Closer Look Going UP Turn after second tunnel. Note, Track AND Supports have been painted. Final Bunny Hill and Transfer Area
  12. I worked there last winter in the water park... I believe the next few weeks are considered High Volume Days due to spring break. On these days you can bet that there will not be very many, if any, public water park passes available... so your best bet is to stay in the resort if you want to use the water park since admission is included in the room cost. From what I remember, Friday Evening through Sunday Afternoon will be the worst (Especially between noon and 4pm), because the water park will be full of guest who stayed the night prior and guests who are just starting to show up. I know there was times during spring break where they had to restrict admission due to over crowding, which it wasn't impossible to have 130% capacity during the peak times I listed earlier (capacity is biased on max number of hotel guests). There will be lines, no questions, during this time. I know when I was working at the top of the premiere slide (the big blue bowl, Swahili Swirl) it was common to hear people had waited over an hour just to ride. Most of the wait was due to strict loading procedures and mechanical malfunctions from their raft conveyor. Flow Rider will have a similar wait due to low capacity in general, as long as they have both flow riders open it shouldn't be terrible. The wave pool wont have a wait, obviously, but it will be crowded. If you have more questions, feel free to let me know...
  13. Not really a SOAKING, but it is a surprise wetness factor that you dont expect even though you could see it if you were outside the ride. I'm talking about the, now defunct, water hose that used to spray over the heads of riders where that pesky heart-line roll was once located on Maverick at Cedar Point. I loved it, but it was removed due to complaints from riders that the water hurt; which I understand completely. I have a pic! BEWARE OF THE FIRE HOSE
  14. I'll post my #1 and #2 from each Wood and Steel coasters... #1 Steel - Maverick at Cedar Point (and not the crummy ride in the background, never) #2 Steel - Kumba at Busch Gardens Tampa. There is just something about that old style B&M twisty-ness... makes the ride much more enjoyable and intense! #1 Wood - Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer. Packed full of win from Start to Finish... excellent ride all around! #2 Wood - Shivering Timbers at Michigan Adventure. This is also probably one of the more underrated wooden rides out there too, in my opinion.
  15. Yea, that sounds about right as far as Sandusky is concerned. I moved up here to continue working at Cedar Point and I have managed to find an off season job that manages well and that will allow me to return to the park once that time arrives (and then return again when the season is over). I know MOST employers up here will look at your application and if there is a hind of Cedar Point on it they avoid your application like the plague. You mentioned Castaway Bay being a reliable place for winter employment. It seems however this may be the last winter this will be an option due to new Obama Legislation, something with the "Obama Care" stuff that requires employers to offer a 401k plan to employees the work more than 1800 hours in a year. Since Castaway Bay is a part of Cedar Point and not its own place of employment this would require Cedar Point to offer a 401k plan to Seasonal/Part Time employees. Human Resources is starting to crack down on departmental transfers because of this legislation, so this option may no longer exist at the end of this season. The thought has also crossed my mind to head "south" and join the many of friends I have down there and get settled into a park in and around Orlando. I would love to get down there and see my friends again and do what I love, work in the Amusement Industry.
  16. More Windseekaaaa!! Looks like they will have all the tower pieces by the end of the week.. does this mean we will see vertical construction very soon!?
  17. Awwww I'm flattered you used my photos to show of your favorite ride
  18. Did you expect them to? No Cedar Fair parks were in it either. Of course the top ten would be ruled by Disney and Universal. Well in all fairness MOST of their parks are Seasonal parks and do not offer the same operating season as those year round parks. Cedar Point, Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland all draw between 2.9mill-3.2mill a year which is impressive when compared to a park like Universal Studios or Busch Gardens Tampa that only does slightly more than that and they operate ALL year. If you were to compare these parks on a seasonal basis I'm sure they would equal out with possibly a slight advantage to the mainly seasonal parks.
  19. Technically Cedar Point Parking is $9.50 with a $0.50 Sandusky City Toll Charge for using the Causeway. But, $10 either way, which is on the cheap side when compared to other parks of its caliber.
  20. The first WINDSEEKAAAA piece has arrived at Kings Island. It appears to be the top section of the tower based on color when compared to the animation. Now I present to you a 1-ish minute long video of a piece of steel with people standing around and looking at it.
