Hey there, Coasting for Kids riders! Robb and Elissa have asked me to help coordinate this year's Team TPR efforts, and I'm more than happy to do so! I have updated the first post and organized it into our "official" information page for Coasting For Kids 2014! Take a look at it....you will find info on our teams, the parks, and instructions on how to create your own signature banner once you've signed up. Please note, the event details for the parks (the ones that have announced them so far) are coming very soon as I update the page further. Let's make this year's Coasting For Kids the best one yet for Team TPR!!

This random thread has a wide assortment of topics, and after doing a search and not seeing anything related to this, I thought I'd post it here. If this is deemed not appropriate or too personal, there are no hard feelings if it is locked. I just felt like it would be interesting to see if any other couples out there in the TPR world have experienced a similar journey to the one my wife and I are on now. Back in January of 2010, my wife and I made the decision that we wanted to start a family. It was an exciting time for us, and we were as ready as ever to take that plunge into parenthood. We "tried" for the next two years to get pregnant. My wife at times even attempted "charting" in an effort to try and maximize our chances at hitting that ideal window. Towards the end of that second year, some definite frustration had started to set in. There were many negative pregnancy tests, some tears shed, and friends were getting pregnant seemingly like it was nothing. We began wondering if something was wrong with us. After many discussions on the matter, we decided it was time to seek out some help. In January 2012, we went to a local hospital to visit with a reproductive endocrinologist (RE). We've been really lucky, to be honest, as our RE has been such a blessing to us! After running a battery of initial diagnostic tests, everything came back "good" and "normal". It was the dreaded "unexplained infertility". We were given a few more months to try on our own. After those months proved unsuccessful, we returned for a follow-up with our RE. More tests were run, and we were told that they had a suspicion that my wife might possibly be dealing with a condition known as endometriosis. This condition can hide from initial testing, and the only way to find out for sure if it is present is to have a laproscopic surgery to investigate. My wife's first surgery in December of 2012 revealed that she had stage 4 endometriosis. At last, we had a reason. Endometriosis (especially more severe cases like my wife's) can greatly inhibit the ability to get pregnant naturally. During the surgery, they cleaned up some of the areas to give us another shot on our own. This was to be a limited window, because unfortunately there is no cure for endometriosis. It can be cleaned/removed, but it will come back. More trying, and more of the same.....negative after negative. At that point, a plan was put in place to have us try our "best shot" based on my wife's condition - IVF. Another surgery was scheduled for this past summer, and the target was then the fall of 2013 to attempt our first IVF cycle. In November, we moved forward and began IVF. Unfortunately, the medications required caused my wife's body to react adversely, so it was decided we would not proceed with our "live" IVF cycle. Instead, they retrieved as many eggs as they could and headed to the lab to see if any viable embryos could be produced. They were able to retrieve 6 eggs, and of those, 4 viable good quality embryos emerged and were frozen for later use. Fast forwarding a bit to today, and we are preparing for our first FET (frozen embryo transfer) this week! It has been quite a journey for us, full of times with plenty of emotional heartache. Dealing with infertility can be one of the most difficult things a couple can face. There are times spent feeling frustrated, confused, alone, angry, and incredibly sad. Infertility puts a drain not only on your emotions, but also your bank account. These procedures we are going through are incredibly expensive, and almost all insurance companies do not cover 1 cent of it. I will say that this whole experience has made my wife and I even closer though. Our love for each other has grown exponentially as we've taken on this battle. On a personal note, I am truly inspired by.....and in awe of.....my wife. She has had to put her body through pure hell just to try and have a baby. I couldn't ask for a more incredible partner. We don't know what the future will bring us as we continue on this journey. Perhaps this first transfer will work......or perhaps it won't, and we will need to recover, regroup, and try again. We feel like we are giving it our best shot possible. And if after all this it isn't meant to be, then we are already fully intending on exploring adoption. I truly believe that somehow, some way, we will be blessed with a baby in due time. So, that's a condensed version of our story. As we have gone through this, we were surprised to learn just how common infertility is. 1 in 10 couples (on average) deal with it in some form or another. But good can come from it as well. During the height of this battle, during a time that was more difficult for me, I discovered (through TPR) Give Kids The World and the wonderful Coasting for Kids event. I decided to channel that energy that could've been spent feeling bad about our situation, and pour it into an event that does so much good for such deserving kids. Have any others out there dealt with, or know someone close to you who has dealt with, infertility issues? Feel free to comment, share personal stories, or even ask questions. We have become much more open about our struggles with infertility. Sometimes you end up feeling so isolated, so it's nice to be able to talk with others who have experienced the same. Kudos if you've made it through this whole post......and thanks for reading!

The ironic (and funny!) part is that BenFreeze's post in this thread pretty much qualifies for this thread itself!! Has that ever happened before??

El Loco looks like a sweet coaster with some awesome elements! The hangtime looks pretty sick too. Definitely need to hit up the dome the next time we venture out to Vegas!! (I'm missing the Canyon Blaster credit as well.....it was closed the week we were there in 2012). -

Then your destination should be somewhere like Knoebels! Believe me, for CP the franchises are the better option! And you can't go wrong with Chickie and Pete's! -
Knoebels Discussion Thread

^^ Maybe they want to slowly roll the car towards the vertical lift hill on that straight track, thus building up the anticipation. I'm sure it would get some hearts pumping amongst the GP! -

PhantomNick replied to viking86's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Agreed. What a gorgeous mess of track going in all different directions! And wow, I gotta say, this thing looks spectacular. Just another reason why this park is high on my list of "dream destinations" someday. Those of you on the Scandi trip are in for a heck of a fun time, and this coaster looks like it has the potential to be a real highlight! -
Knoebels Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How does the clue of visiting 3 states lead to Zierer? The only thing I could think of was that they visited and rode 3 of the more "adult" coasters from Zierer. The problem with that theory? I can only come up with 2 - Wicked and Verbolten. Is there a third one that would fit the bill? Or maybe the 3rd state was to ride a Eurofighter for comparison? Just throwing some ideas out there. The coaster itself looks like a lot of fun, and the quirky/unique layout is a perfect fit for Knoebels. Looks like a much better choice for an adult steel coaster than their previous one was! -

Where Are You Planning To Go In 2014?
PhantomNick replied to azza29's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is a great topic to think about during this relentless winter up here in the northeast! Definites: Kennywood (several times/Season Pass) Kings Island (hopefully with Nicole and Chris!) Kings Dominion (looking to mix it up this year and head here for Coasting for Kids!) Fairly Likely/Planning: Delgrosso's Six Flags America Possible: Kentucky Kingdom Beech Bend BGW (Christmas Town?) Cedar Point Seabreeze We'll see how it all plays out. Usually most (if not all) of the "Possible" category becomes the "Nice Try!" category. -
^^^ Lion King is amazing!! We've seen it twice and loved it.....that opening sequence is fantastic! This past Sunday we went to see Wicked as it flew through Pittsburgh again. I do realize that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but for me, I think it is an amazing show! Every time I've seen it with my wife (this was our 6th - 4 times here, once in Rochester, NY, and once in Vegas) it further solidifies itself as my favorite show. Love the music, and I just like that take on a story I remember watching as a kid with my grandparents (Wizard of Oz). This time we went to the matinee performance of its last day here, and it turned out the standby was on for Elphaba. Sometimes that makes me nervous, but this gal was a total powerhouse and knocked my socks off!! Wow, what a voice! We've seen a pretty fair number of musicals together now, and if I were to pick a top 5 for me, at this point it'd look something like this: 1. Wicked 2. Les Mis 3. Newsies 4. Phantom of the Opera 5a. Jekyll and Hyde 5b. Book of Mormon Honorable mentions: Lion King, Avenue Q, Rent, Jersey Boys Really looking forward to seeing Once next month!

Back in November, to celebrate our 5th anniversary, the wife and I went to see Josh Groban in concert. It was fantastic. I've got big respect for that dude's voice.....very powerful! Needless to say, my wife was a very happy camper that night.....as was I later on in the evening!!

Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
PhantomNick replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great news about the upgrades to the Auto Race! That's a nice classic ride, and it's good to see that the park is making sure upgrades are done to keep it running for years to come! Also, while a more subtle change, I'm thrilled to hear of headlights returning to Thunderbolt.....and it's even cooler knowing that my alma mater is involved! Also, as far as Johnny Rockets goes, I'm okay with it and don't see it as such a big deal. Frankly, that food area was my least favorite in the park, so the freshening up is welcomed, imho. We actually live fairly close to the only other one in the area, and every once in a while we'll grab a bite there. Wouldn't call it my favorite or anything, but way better than the burgers they used to serve in that spot. And their shakes are actually quite good. I just hope they keep the exterior/neon lights pretty much the same. I really don't think this means chains are going to start pouring into the park as some may fear, though. -

^ THIS. Easily my favorite part of Storm Runner. Also, I'm a huge fan of zero-G rolls. Specifically, the one by Premier that can be found on Sky Rocket at Kennywood.....holy hangtime, Batman!! -
What Brand/Property Needs A Ride?
PhantomNick replied to Woodie Warrior's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Had to rib ya a little bit, since it made me chuckle since our posts were right next to each other! All in good fun though.... I'm just glad someone else has the same vision of the awesomeness that would be a "24" shooter dark ride. Although, with as tense as that show can get, I'm not sure many people's hearts could handle the ride! -
What the heck, at this point I say they should go for broke and be the first park with 10 kiddie/junior credits!! I'm sure there's plenty from the catalog they haven't used yet - vekoma junior suspended, kiddie woodie, kiddie boomerang (I think there's one of those in Europe, correct?), a newer B&M.......
