Vancouver's "Coaster"
Corkscrew replied to Wood Dragon 1988's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Coaster is a fantastic ride. There's a reason why it is always ranked high. A couple tips: riding in the back makes for an extreme ride with lots of air. The front is a little less crazy, but the air is more enjoyable; not quite as violent. -
Presence by Led Zeppelin for $7.99. I've been wanting to get this on a CD for a while, so I finally did.

Deaf people can't really tell people how they're feeling (except with sign language), so they tend to exaggerate expressions to get their point across. Or at least, that's my understanding.

Claire's mom never died, but her dad, who is also Jack's father, is dead.

Our local carnival usually has a ride called the Sizzler. It fits the description: similar to Eli Scrambler, but multi-coloured. However, I did not notice a change in speed from a regular scrambler. If anything, the scrambler at my home park is faster.

It would be so awesome if he actually did return. Mr Six was freakin' hilarious.

Great photos! Looks like a very nice park. Firewhip just might steal the title of best looking SLC from Infusion... -
Questionable Top 10 Coaster List
Corkscrew replied to PhillyGirl's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I saw this book recently and looked at it. I agree, the list they chose is horrible. It seems that they only picked large coasters or ones that are well known. I've heard the Cyclone is painful and nowhere close to the top 10. Beast isn't a bad choice. Dueling Dragons, not bad, but not a top 10 coaster(s). Son of Beast was most likely just chosen because it's the largest wooden coaster. M Force isn't a bad choice. Ride of Steel was rated number one in the Golden tickets, so a very good choice. B Dash is good, from what I've heard. X, not a very good choice. TTD and KK were most likely just chosen because of their height and speed. Some decent choices in there, but as a whole, a very bad list. The only ones that are possibly even top 10 coasters are Ride of Steel, Beast, M Force, and B Dash. -
PTR: West Edmonton Mall - Galaxyland
Corkscrew replied to Sparebear75's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Galaxyland is a cool little park. I agree, a lot of thrills are crammed into one small place! Galaxy Orbiter is a very fun coaster and a great addition to the park. -
Australia's Luna Parks (Melbourne & Sydney) PTRs
Corkscrew replied to packfanlv's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Biggest meaning largest area covered, not height. So their claim is correct, though it is slightly misleading. Anyways, great TR. It's nice to see some not as well known parks. -
Q1) Are you Male/Female? Male. Q2) How old are you? Thirteen. Q3) When you go to a theme park, do you prefer riding wooden roller coasters, or steel roller coasters? Wooden, for the excellent "rickety feel". Q4) Of all the different roller coaster trains, which do you prefer and why? Seated, standing, inversion etc… Seated. Most other positions are uncomfortable and awkward. Q5) What’s your most favourite ride? Coaster at Playland (Vancouver) as it has insane ejector airtime. Q6) When your on a roller coaster what do you think is the most THRILLING part of the ride? (Gives you the biggest buzz/rush?) Airtime is defintely the most thrilling part of any ride, especially ejector. Q7) What do you think is the most SCARY part of the ride? (Makes you think twice about it?) The scariest part is the lift hill. When you are slowly climbing up it, you really start to have second thoughts. Q8) Do you think roller coasters are LESS scary and thrilling after you’ve ridden them once before? It depends on the ride. However, if it's a good ride, it should thrill you every time. Q9) Do you like the idea of an extreme roller coaster? (Think roller coasters crossed with extreme sports) No... sounds odd, to put it bluntly. Q10) Themeing… Is the theme important in the overall ride anticipation and ride satisfaction? While theming is a great addition to any ride, it does not always matter. If a ride is fantastic, but has no theming, I don't mind. Also, theming can't exactly make up for a bad ride.... take the Dark Knight, for instance. Q11) Queuing… Do you like to see the ride whilst in the queue? Or do you prefer the sense of not knowing what is going to happen? I like being able to see the ride in the line. It gives you something to watch; it can also freak you out. Q12) Because of the direct proportionality between rides and queue length, do you prefer short ride/short queue, or long ride/long queue? In a perfect world, long ride/short queue... however, in this case, I'll have to go with short ride/short queue. Personally, I cannot stand waiting for a ride. Q13) Is there anything you would like to see improved/changed with roller coasters? Most modern wooden coasters are not as good as the classics. Where have the forces and insane ejector airtime go? Modern restraints are also terrible. I can't stand when I go on a wooden coaster, and there is a seatbelt, lap bar, seat divider, and huge headrest. Bring back the simple buzz bars! Those are my main problems with current coasters.

Cool, nice TR. Taking pictures in the dark is pretty difficult. Anyways, Wild Waves is a nice park, I usually go there every summer. And yes, Klondike does smash your ribs! I rode it 6 times though; the pain is actually fun! Timberhawk is a nice, smooth ride with some nice head choppers and drops... however, it has no airtime, which sucks.

People Jumping the Line / Queue
Corkscrew replied to aldredd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
At my home park, there is nobody to really control line jumping, so there is plenty of it. I have yet to see any simple budging in line, but rather a lot of jumping over the fence to meet up with friends. For example, when I was waiting for the pirate ship, there was a group of three people (surprisngly, one was an adult and he should have known better). Then the rest of their group comes to the side of the line and jumps over, so I got pushed back about 8 people in line. Honestly, doesn't it ever cross people's minds that even if someone has saved you a spot, it's still line jumping. I think that's what most people don't get. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Corkscrew replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This was heard by my friend and I (last saturday) in the line for Coaster at my home park, Playland (PNE). Boy 1: Hey, did you hear that some guy died on Wild Mouse? Boy 2: Really? Not recently, right? Boy 1: The guy was so fat he tipped the car over. I was loling for the rest of the day... haven't they ever heard of wheels?
