  1. ^ I wasn't really talking about when the shitty rides are the ONLY rides you've had (and wasn't very clear on that), then yeah, I can understand that. I'm all about an Olympic-style scoring system, throwing out the best and worst rides to get what would be *my* average rides. If all you had was sublime midnight rides, then congrats.. allow my shitty daytime and 50 degrees rides to balance that out
  2. ^ LOL! I actually vaguely remember covering stuff along these lines.... in Computing for Engineers
  3. I'm in the camp that says a coaster should be able to perform well in normal conditions to get a top spot. You wouldn't knock a ride down because you visited the park on a slow day and only had half a dozen riders on the train, right? Why do the opposite and base your rating on a ride on non-normal conditions such as midnight ERT?
  4. ^ I would recommend staying in midtown Atlanta (the park is about 10 miles west of the city), a couple of exits to the west (Thornton Rd in Austell, I-20 exit 44), or the Vinings area which is about 10 miles NW of downtown. There are hotels adjacent to the park, but I'd personally avoid them since the area is fairly rough and you can get a nice, quiet hotel in Vinings for about the same price. The Wingate @ Six Flags *should* be acceptable place, but I would NOT recommend any other hotel within 3 miles of the park. Here are my personal recommendations as a local: Hotel Palomar (higher-end) in midtown, the Sheraton @ Cumberland Galleria (moderate) in the Vinings/NW Atlanta area, or the Garden Inn (budget) on Thornton Rd in Lithia Springs (I haven't actually stayed at this one, but it seems to be the cleanest in the area)
  5. ^ yeah, I completely mis-read that. I'm not seeing straight today I guess!
  6. I didn't fill out my ballot, but the Voyage would rank around 15 for me (out of about 75 woodies) - still the 80th percentile! I'm not much of a fan, do think its overrated, but I certainly don't hate it, either. I think its awesome how people get worked up over this shit
  7. The toys were unnecessary though, they should have been saved for some upper-level classes, not 1000-level shit in all honesty, I think the problem was that it didn't seem planned - I mean, if you let the students know before hand whats going on, they can opt out, but if people start randomly having sex in the middle of class, you can't really escape it..
  8. ^ Not likely! If it's not bread, cheese, broccoli, pasta or a hot dog, she won't eat it!
  9. but he really doesn't
  10. I don't think that cannibalism is really best to describe the Ohio Cedar Fair parks. Cannibalism is when, say for instance, Snickers introduced some new crazy mint Snickers bar. Sales of the original Snickers may dip a bit with the new product introduction. However, the Cedar Fair situation is more like Snickers bought Reese's - a product that was already available to choose from on the candy aisle, so sales of neither shouldn't be affected too much if all other things remain the same. The only cannibalism I can think of would be, say, a Platinum pass-holder (or whatever CF calls their all-parks pass) skipping a trip or two to their "home park" in favor of the other park. Even if a family from Columbus chooses KI instead of CP , the money still goes to the same parent company
  11. Nice to see the beer thread poppin Some of us only get Pliny once a year or so (and I've never had Younger), so it could be worse! But it's cool, cause fresh Two Hearted is always available for 9 bucks a six pack, and its nearly as good ^ Every time I see Augustijn, it seems to be old as hell. I bought a bottle 2-3 years ago with a date of 2002! Anyways, I killed a sixer of these this weekend:
  12. This may be the most intelligent thing you have ever said!
  13. The after-party will be at the Clermont lounge, over-21 only
  14. Yay I'm actually going to be in town that weekend! moderately interested in going to the park, definitely interested in going to waffle house (even if you didn't say you were going to, I know you will ) edit: I'll be allllll byyyy myyyyyself
  15. This was awesome! I can't eat much of this crap anymore, but would love to do a 1-day event like this. Unfortunately, food carts are having trouble finding legal ground to operate on around here
  16. ^ I would imagine that any upkeep costs have to come from somewhere! It is a bit disgruntling that some of the free parking parks have better parking lots than some of the $15 Six Flags pieces of crap they call a parking lot
  17. I think the reason that enthusiasts get so pissed is because we often travel in small groups going to parks, whereas for a family with 4-5 people, the difference per person between $5 to park and $15 to park is only ~$2. Add Lake Winnie to the included-in admission list (no park REALLY has free parking), Dollywood is $8 IIRC, no additional charge with upper-level passes (much like it is at Universal Orlando, Busch parks etc) Personally, I don't like the parks that include the price of parking in admission, it doesn't provide an incentive to those who could opt to use public transport.
  18. wtf who put my recipe online?! grrrrrrr looks amazing, CWJ-approved for sure (contrary to popular belief, you do not need fire to be CWJ-approved)
  19. 7s for me on Firefox - it actually took longer to load in IE for me, about 10s
  20. Damn, I know all of them (or, in the case of the Steel poll and dvd title questions, could at least look it up) except these 3. How many different variations where there of the Lightning Bolt at the MGM Grand Adventures theme park? 7. What was the "bonus coaster" on Roller Coasters in the RAW Volume 1? Good luck to all
  21. What I was trying to say is that I could see dining and entertainment having higher margins than gaming (which I thought had a fairly low margin), and thinking that they *may* make the casinos more profits while not bringing in as much revenue, but after looking at the annual report for MGM, I am wrong about both things (gaming and dining have about the same profit margin, entertainment carries a very low margin, and revenue from dining and entertainment is slightly higher than gaming revenue)
  22. Revenue, or profits? Cause I could see attractions and dining and stuff having a higher margin, and maybe being more profitable as a whole since gaming does pay out a lot.. but still...
  23. Porsche and Aston both have lineups full of similar cars and they rarely see drastic changes. People complain when Porsche does it because, let's face it, the 911 isn't the hottest looking car, but no one cares that Aston does it because every car they make is gorgeous.
  24. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/aston-virage-02-22-2011 mmmmmmm
  25. IPhone has that "hip" factor (though I think the big three smart phone platforms currently all have similar market share, with RIM on a slow decline and Android growing rapidly)
