Photo TR: Lightning Rod or Bust!
larrygator replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We have maps from all the major parks in the Park Index Just click on a Park and if the words "Park Map" show up we have at least one map of the park. For many parks we have multiple park maps from the past 10 years. I just scanned and added 40 new maps last week. -

Moreys Piers Discussion Thread

Good riddance, I have no desire to get back to Morey's until they get their first good coaster. -
^^ I was referring to your comment, not the park's hiring practices. As two others have already alluded to. A high percentage of workers at regional parks are college students who return to college, if you no longer reside within a commutable distance to SFGAdv, you are not physically able to work there.

Ghost Town In The Sky Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So you are asking if trespassing is feasible? -
To be fair, this can actually, really happen! KT goes to school in an area with a lot of children of Disney and Universal higher-ups and they have spilled quite a few things! She would come home from Kindergarten telling us about new attractions coming to Universal and was right! KT also asks the best questions at Career Day for us. Similar thing happened in advertising about 20 years ago when kids at a Connecticut elementary school were talking. One kid (Jimmy) told another kid (John) that his father would be working on a well known account. Well John thought his father was working on that account and asked his father if he worked with Jimmy's father. John's father didn't work with Jimmy's father but knew he worked at a competing ad agency so he asked his boss about the situation. The bosses knew nothing. It turns out the client had a secret review and was in the process of switching advertising agencies and no one knew about it.

Those in non-Six Flags markets might not be aware but Six Flags, "Flash Sale" for 2017 season passes is currently going on through September 5th. These are the lowest prices that will be offered. However, keep in mind most of the parks have deadline dates, by which you you to process your pass to get the maximum benefits. i.e. SFGAdv must be processed by October 31st. For those that don't have 2016 passes, these 2017 passes will be active immediately to include the remainder of 2016.

What's new for 2016
larrygator replied to larrygator's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll be working on the "What's new for 2017?" thread over the next for days. Please be patient and don't attempt to create and post one yourself. -
Fitzgerald was very concerned the park was playing with fire when it came to their wild animals. He was very aware of the incidents that happened over the years and insightful enough to not want someone jumping out of their own car to interact with the animals. He also had the business insight to know that the animals were a valuable asset that were under utilized as safari attendance dropped considerably over the years. For years he has also been a proponent of a new baboon exhibit, to observe them up close behind glass, but who knows if that will ever happen.

You've been better lately but this is a pretty a**hole-ish comment. The fact that he specified that was "Day 1" implies that there's more to come. Let's not start judging people's trip reports. I actually enjoyed a lot of the pictures. Agreed not a great comment from someone who doesn't have a great history of posting. However, PTRs from ImNotOneOfYou are pretty heavy on out of focus photos.

TPR's Ever Evolving Park Index
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks to the dozens of people who have helped to pare down this list of needed photos. If anyone has an opportunity to review their home park and provide feedback we can keep The Park Index as accurate as possible, I can't do it all myself. Please submit only your own photos. Do not take them from another person or website. You can post your photos of any size in this thread or in your Trip Reports Or you can use the submission tool in the Park Index, but in that case please resize your photos to 800x600 or smaller before submitting, otherwise they are difficult for me to review and place in the Park Index. Or if you have any of those photos already in an existing PTR just send me a PM and let me know. Worst Coaster Ever?
larrygator replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, no, no! You are not looking at it properly. This is the most immersive coaster ever. You (the rider) are the pirate that is hiding. That is why you don't appear in the picture you took inside the building. If you ride it again and pretend you are the pirate, it will make perfect sense. -
Extremely unlikely. http://gothamist.com/2016/08/25/coney_island_mini_golf.php#photo-1 Check Out Coney Island's New Mini-Golf Course by David Colon in Arts & Entertainment Aug 25, 2016 10:15 am (David Colon/Gothamist) If you're looking for a fun kid-friendly activity, or you're a particularly devoted Happy Gilmore cosplayer, it's a pretty good time to be alive in New York City. Two new mini-golf courses have popped up this summer, including the bells and whistles pirate golf course Shipwrecked in Red Hook, and now Brooklyn Miniature Golf, a simpler, no-frills 18 hole course that has opened in Coney Island. The course, which is located on Bowery Street and West 12th Street, opened up just over a week ago according to an employee there. While Brooklyn Miniature Golf lacks the flair (and air conditioning) of Red Hook's new course, it makes up for it with the atmosphere, surrounded by the Wonder Wheel, a variety of Luna Park rides, and skee-ball wonderland/Fsociety HQ Eldorado Arcade. The holes themselves are deceptively hard—or at least they were for me. They're laid out simply, but a few obstacles placed in key spots along the way will have you chewing on your putter in frustration as you continuously tell yourself, "Okay I've got a hole in one on this one, easy," and wind up with a 3 or 4. And the holes themselves seem to be curved just enough on the edges so that every time you think you've sunk a putt, the ball will rim right out. At the same time, it could just be that I need to put more time in with Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge if I want to get better at this. There are also two holes with water traps: one with a small narrow bridge over a river, and the other with a downward-sloping green that will deposit the balls of the careless putters among you right into a small pond. The course was still too new for the pond to have transformed into a golf ball graveyard, but the designers are aware that the slope will claim a number of balls soon enough, and have helpfully left a net out for you right next to the pond so you can fish your ball out. In another nice touch, every hole holds a flag you can pull out after being the first to finish, just like a real golfer (that's what they do, right?). Brooklyn Miniature Golf opens at noon every day, and currently has no set closing time according to the employee I spoke to. A game will run you $10, for children or adults, and I was told that in "about two weeks" construction on a concession stand next to the course will be finished. There's also a go-kart track right next to the mini-golf, which will run you $15 a session, if you think there are already not enough opportunities to drive fast with no consequences in this city.

IMG World of Adventure
larrygator replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hey look what opens in one week, barring any last minute delays. World's largest indoor theme park set to open in Dubai this month Published August 23, 2016 FoxNews.com Dubai summer temperatures can soar well above 100 degrees but you’d never know it from inside IMG's World of Adventure. The world’s largest indoor theme park is set to open later this month. The 1.5 million-square foot facility features roller coasters, thrill rides, a haunted house so scary you have to be 15 or older, Marvel superheroes and Cartoon Network characters—and even live animals. Park investors are hoping the late-summer opening will lure back thousands of U.A.E. residents—and entice visitors—who flee the desert during the hottest months of the year. "Dubai still suffers from a certain amount of seasonality during the June, July, August period," Lennard Otto, CEO of IMG World of Adventure, told Reuters. "We will hopefully drive tourism in those periods to make Dubai an all-year-round destination. Today there's a gap in this market and in the region.” Spread over an area equivalent to 28 football fields, the entire amusement park is split into four themed zones that target different ages, from the family-friendly Cartoon Network area to the Marvel zone with superheros, thrill rides and a fine-dining steak restaurant based on Iron Man’s alter ego Tony Stark. Each themed world is segued with jungle trails and a labyrinth of city streets. The whole facility—which cost over $1 billion to build-- is air conditioned. But if you really need to cool off there’s even an indoor ski slope-- with live penguins. Otto, and other investors, expect the behemoth park to be a major tourist draw and are already predicting at least 30,000 visitors a day and 4.5 million visitors over the next year. The CEO thinks the IMG park is just the beginning of Dubai’s global amusement park domination. “Within the next five years, we will have the same amount of large-scale theme parks [as Orlando] and there will be eight parks in the UAE by 2019,” Otto told The Telegraph. “The infrastructure here in Dubai is far superior to that of Orlando. Dubai has more hotel rooms than Orlando, a bigger food and beverage industry and Dubai’s airport has twice the number of passengers than Orlando’s.” IMG Worlds of Adventure is located just 20 minutes from each of Dubai’s international airports. Tickets cost AED 300 for adults (about $81) and AED 250 ($69) for children. The theme park is set to open Aug. 31.
