Lagoon Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to Twister II's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I finally made it to Lagoon yesterday, what an amazing park. Loved the intensity of Wicked and Cannibal, very good assortment of flats. I'm not one to rave about Schwarzkopf's, but Colussus impressed me. -

I recall the same about wooden coasters and inversions too. It just couldn't be done and a myriad of reasons why. Right, that's why there are so many many wooden coasters with LSM/LIM launches out there. Every park has one now right? Thank you STDog, for better clarifying/elaborating on more thoughts. I should have clearly stated that applying the existing technology to wood (versus steel) is a "new application of existing technology" instead of calling it "new technology". -

For years when enthusiasts or the general public proposed new coasters idea, a launched wooden coaster was mocked as unfeasible. RMC plans to build one and there is much rejoicing and what was previously thought of as unfeasible is celebrated. Guess what? It is still new technology and new technology is subject to problems. Even if the problem is not specific to the launch mechanics the dynamic nature of the launch could cause problems elsewhere. Advanced computer modeling and virtual testing have eliminated a vast majority of issues that might have plagued rides in the past but the expectation that new technology and advancements will be perfect every time is unrealistic. -

For those that watch German Fair ride videos and say "never in America". Not true, this one is in America. -

Whirlwind is operating and while Gale Force is only a week or two from opening (according to recent Facebook posts from the park), the third coaster probably won't open til early August. For those that can wait until August 10th, the park posted on Facebook that Wednesday, August 10th will have $15 wristbands from 1-5. Probably a good idea since the park has a very good flat ride package including one crazy ride, Tropical Storm -

Six Flags Announces a Park in Dubai
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Where you stand depends on where you sit. People may share your view, but for casual enthusiasts the words Six Flags mean big coasters and big thrills. Many American enthusiasts marvel at the beauty and charm of European parks. While for years many Europeans marveled at the size and intensity of US rides. (Granted the European parks have closed the gap in recent times) -

The ride operators has a microphone and encourages it and the ride is happening, calling out the best flyers (but he doesn't refer to it as snapping) -
Canobie Lake Park Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't get your hopes up for Yankee Cannonball, it is overrated IMHO with slow operations, ride it early. Expects lots of rude kids running around and invading your personal space when standing next to you on line. If you like fresh fried clam strips, the one at Canobie are very good (overpriced but you're at an amusement park). Don't skip PsychoDrome, a fun indoor scrambler with a lighting package (not as good as the one at Funtown Splashtown) if you can follow the story line to Mine of Lost Souls you win the keys to the universe. -

I don't get it, what is your point? There will be room for expansion. -
On Friday afternoon and I was leaving SFGAdv it started raining pretty hard. I decided to head over to iPlay America (an indoor FEC) as they recently installed an SBF Visa Group spinning coaster. All day passes are available or you can load credits on to a card that can be used for games and rides, since the games in the arcade did not interest me I only loaded $5 on my card. On this day it was loaded with summer camp kids. It also appears to be a popular destination for kid's birthday parties. I took some pictures just to give an idea of what is at the park. Sorry for the horrible pictures, my phone doesn't work well indoors. Also not shown are the food court, laser tag and lots of games/machines to win tickets but the the arcade part has mostly driving games. Billed as New Jersey's largest indoor ropes course, it is probably the only one in New Jersey Go Karts Bowling for kids (hand-held smaller bowling balls) Kite Flyer SkyScraper Happy Swing Dizzy Dragons Freedom Rider Spinning Coaster 4D Theater Laser Tag Bumper Cars

I also really enjoy alpine coasters, but until yesterday I never experienced any airtime. I rode the Thunderbolt at East Berkshire (Charlemont, Mass). At least three times I was out of my seat. This is easier the best one I've ridden to date and recommend it if you are in the area (one hour northwest of SFNE) This one is an ADG installation. I've noticed that the Weigand installions I've ridden are all smooth, but the ADG one's are a little bumpier, some bump are fabricated into the track, but the seams connecting the track aren't always smooth.

If I've learned one thing in this hobby, it is that locals tend to over inflate the greatness of new coasters. -

Keep your parking receipt from the prior night. Show that and your admission ticket at the parking booth on the second day.
