Round 2? Here are the additions that we have seen at multiple parks in recent years. HiTP SkyScreamer Larson Super Loops VR additions Justice League S&S Free Spin I suspect the next round will not be a coaster. I think they will continue to look for rides in the $1MM - $3MM range to replicate in parks.

https://communityimpact.com/houston/conroe-montgomery/arts-entertainment/2017/02/22/construction-ramps-grand-texas/ Construction ramps up at Grand Texas Big Rivers water park tentatively projected to open this summer By Christopher Shelton| Posted Feb. 22, 2017 at 5:09 pm Construction ramps up at Grand Texas Grand Texas Theme Park could provide some much-needed entertainment options in east Montgomery County in 2017 despite previous delays and construction challenges. Construction has concluded on the first two elements of the 632-acre entertainment venue, including Grand Texas RV Park and Speedsportz Racing Park, which opened near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and Hwy. 242 in August and December, respectively, Grand Texas officials said. Now, preliminary infrastructure work for Grand Texas’ water park Big Rivers is under construction on the site. Big Rivers is slated to be completed before the start of the summer, Grand Texas CEO Monty Galland said. Inclement weather, potential construction mishaps and the scope of a development this large create variables that make predicting an opening date difficult, Grand Texas Creative Director Lance Martin said. “We’ve got a big [goal] ahead of us—that’s trying to do everything right before we do anything wrong,” Martin said. “That’s why it’s taking so long. We have a lot of tasks that people don’t see.” Park elements The Grand Texas Theme Park will feature five roller coasters, dozens of rides and an emphasis on live entertainment, Galland said. The park’s theme is based on Texas history, which includes Spanish, Mexican and German influences. At its opening, Grand Texas will be about the same size as Six Flags AstroWorld—the 57-acre theme park that closed in 2005, he said. Construction on Grand Texas’ namesake amusement park and a sports complex is expected to begin when Big Rivers—a 40-acre water park—is completed, Galland said. Construction on the theme park could take two years. In addition, Grand Texas will feature several retail and entertainment elements, such as a factory outlet mall, four hotels and 450,000 square feet of retail and dining space in the park’s Downtown Texas section. While the completion of the mall is 30-36 months away, construction on Downtown Texas is expected to begin when the theme park is completed. “A region like this needs a big entertainment facility,” Martin said. Local Effects For the east Montgomery County area, the theme park could create more economic demand, said Jenna Armstrong, president and CEO of the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce. “The prospect of [Grand Texas] is huge for [the Greater Houston area], and that effect is going to be felt in the Lake Houston area,” Armstrong said. Demand for housing in the area is expected to increase once major park elements open, said Brian Gibson, a community development manager For Friendswood Development. The company is developing more than 4,000 homes in Royal Brook and Tavola, two subdivisions near Kingwood, he said. “We believe it will be a positive factor driving traffic to the area,” Gibson said. However, after project delays and previous theme parks pitched on this tract of land that did not come to fruition, residents and business owners remain cautiously optimistic, Armstrong said. Grand Texas was originally slated for completion in 2015 but was delayed because of the design limitations of the original engineering firm and delays in utility hookups, Galland said. Meanwhile, inclement weather caused delays in 2015 and 2016, Martin said. Grand Texas finished construction of Speed Street—a quarter-mile road that created an entrance to Speedsportz Racing Park— in late November. The $1.2 million project is the first phase of more than 2 miles of public roads that will be a part of Grand Texas at build-out, Grand Texas Communications Manager Jessica Marquez said. The developer expects to spend $3.5 million on road projects, she said. While it is not directly related to the amusement park, the Texas Department of Transportation will expand Hwy. 242 to improve safety near the theme park in the future, TxDOT spokesperson Deidrea George said. The $100 million project would widen Hwy. 242 from two to four lanes between Needham Drive in Conroe and Hwy. 59. The expansion could receive funding in 2023 and includes an overpass at FM 1314, which could receive funding as early as 2018, George said.

Help! I'm going to Knoebels!

Day One: Dorney (3 hours)/Gettysburg Day Two: Hershey Days Three and Four: Knoebels Day Five: SFGAdv Day Six: Hydrus/Gale Force/Morey's Pier Day Seven: Philly Museum Day Eight: Historical Philly Just a suggestion, personally I would do all the Philly stuff in one day, but it sounds like you want to spend a day at the museum. Not sure how to fit Valley Forge in (I don't know how easy it is to get there from Philly), and I think you'll need to forgo your morning/early afternoon beach time at Moreys at get Hydrus and Gale Force There are many ways you could play this. here's another way to start if you could deal with 1.5 days at Knoebels and gives you more time at Hershey Day One: Gettysburg/Hershey night preview (3 hours) Day Two: Hershey Day Three: Dorney (3 hours)/Knoebels Day Four: Knoebels -

Well, I wouldn't say every post but, I suppose I do tend to put great detail into the majority of my posts. I should really try to reduce the content and get to the point. Your points are fine. Estimated to be better than 95% of the contributor's posts. -
Playland's Castaway Cove Discussion Thread

Larry's digging deep! You caught me. Actually that was one of the 3 that instantly came to mind, I didn't even try to research any similar scenarios. You should be glad I didn't bring up this one. I'm just trying to stay positive, because quite frankly Playland's Castaway Cove could have just stayed the course and not made any positive additions over the past 5 years and they would still be doing well. Yes, the park bungled the PR by not keeping the public in the loop, but we have seen that type of PR confusion repeatedly when products/projects are late and that's not just in the amusement park industry. I tend to give those little business some slack since they haven't had to deal with negativity of this scale previously regarding a problem with a large ride installation. Plus, I have seen "enthusiasts" bitching the delay elsewhere online, saying they it is disasterous for the park. When in actuality those enthusiasts will be one and doners and bring in minimal increased revenue. They will probably take advantage of a ACE event at the park to ride the coaster cheaply and overindulge in a buffet lunch narrowing the profit margins for a small park just trying to get some publicity. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I'm pretty much a snob when it comes to hot dogs and really like Pink's. I actually waited over an hour one day at the original Pinks. More expensive but worth it if you can't stand typical dogs. Less variety at the Cedar Point location, but still a very good dog. -
I don't recall, but it did reopen with the retracking, but I don't know all the facts. Just that they invested in a retracking but then didn't run it very long afterwards. In the end it can all be summed up in "enthusiasts don't know all the facts" My apologies for continuing the off topic discussion. Thanks to Chris and Joey for their input as I do believe Montezooma's Revenge will run as long as it is cost efficient for KBF. But with the trend in Schwarzkopf's being removed it is understandable why it becomes a constant rumor.

Kind of, but if I remember correctly what was still 3-4 years before the removal of the ride (correct me if I'm wrong). More importantly though (if my timeline is correct) it happened well before the park, county and city worked out a deal that ended with the park receiving almost a million dollars in incentives for their ambitious $50 million expansion. Had that never happened it's possible that the water park expansion wouldn't have been as ambitious. Maybe it would have, but a lot of things happened at Carowinds between the decision to re-track Thunder Road and it's eventual removal that were unique to that park. It was also located on a prime piece of real estate and seemed to have very low ridership compared to the other rides in the park. At the same time, the Carowinds water park was almost comically under-sized and crappy. The removal of Thunder Road was a no-brainer. I think you hit the nail on the head. Thunder Road was on prime real estate, while Monte most definitely is not. 98% of precedence revoked. That 2% is in case it does (hopefully not) get removed/relocated. Then I'll use Rolling Thunder (at SFGAdv) as a precedent. It ran like crap for well over a decade. Then they finally got it right with the retrack, only to remove it within one year. Granted it was nowhere as popular as Montezooma's Revenge. And I'm not buying the need for a path to Zumanjaro, they could have fit a path in without taking out Rolling Thunder.

Unfortunately, I have to watch all the links to make sure they are not in bad taste, and my first thought was of America's Funniest Home Video. I had to watch it a few times, the abrupt end just made me chuckle over and over, even though I know its not that funny. Just glad no one was seriously hurt.

I think I've seen the Rainmaker show at Dollywood. Does anyone else think he may have been at Dollywood or am I imagining this. -
And here is where I see a major problem. There is no need to declare a winner or loser every time there is an argument. Nobody every lets an argument just die and that carries on beyond this thread and site. I don't know how we can take this comment and argue about it. Sure you can argue about the tone and over who is condescending and rude, but you are not focusing on the crux of his argument. I would never have considered Knoebels or Lagoon (or even Dollywood and Silver Dollar City 7 years ago) to be great parks if I never visited them myself. Although, I greatly value the opinions of the Alveys, I would never have considered Tokyo Disney Sea to be a great park until I visited. I used to argue with an old girlfriend about reading books. I'm not a big book reader and my argument was I've read Catcher in the Rye and that's the best book ever so why should I read another book. I refused to move off my stand. She would constantly say, how do you know if you never read another book. She was 100% right but I would never admit it to her. Now I am of the opinion that I want to visit every amusement park so I can form an comprehensive opinion of the best, which aren't even the best, bu my favorites. (I don't like using the word best, since ranking is subjective to the person using it) Let's stay on topic versus critiquing every word/opinion we don't agree with.
