The Official TPR "East Coast/Behemoth Trip" Update
larrygator replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Smart move, I'm still a huge proponent that Boulder Dash is exponentially better late in the day after it warms up. Night only adds from there. -
Theme Park or Amusement Park
larrygator replied to musicmand's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What about BTMRR? Black Mamba? Crystal Wings? Manta? All are outdoor coasters and all are very nicely themed. Parks like MK and IOA don't really have a single overarching theme to them. I should have worded my first comment differently. It is very costly and difficult to theme an intense outdoor coaster. Sure it can be done but not easily. The speed of a larger coaster and a rider's view play into this. Black Mamba looks great to people watching, but most of the theming is lost if you are not in the front row. Mine trains are easier to theme based on the seating arrangement and speed of the trains. There are a lot of well themed mine trains. I disagree that IOA is not based on an overarching theme. IOA individual "islands" may have different themes but the Port of Entry enables you entry into each of these islands and pulls it all together. Magic Kingdom is certainly is an exception but the imagineers pull everything together in such a manner that no matter which Disneyland/World park you are in you know it is Disney. I'm just curious on how you would have themed Griffon, or Apollo's Chariot for that manner? You can put it in writing or drawing, you appear fairly creative, so it would be nice to see/read your thoughts. -
Lincoln Park (Comet) Discussion Thread
larrygator replied to Canobie Fan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I hope it is finished by the time I get there on Saturday. Seriously, this should be considered a very long term project if not just "pie in the sky." I'd love to see another wood coaster but how long did it take them to put up Meteor with a structure already on site? -
Theme Park or Amusement Park
larrygator replied to musicmand's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think you bring up good points. However, I hope you don't mind that I changed the Title and sub-title in an effort to draw more opinions and intelligent discussion. That was me speaking as a moderator. As an enthusiast, I think a park has to carry a single theme throughout to be a theme park. Worlds of Fun and SFoT to me are examples of amusement parks built on a theme that are more amusement park now than years ago. It's pretty much impossible to theme an outdoor coaster as well as an indoor ride, but I still consider Busch Gardens to be theme parks. -
Homer - keep your spirits up, that's great progress. Look on the bright side, new hair style once your hair grows in.

The Parks of Pennsylvania
larrygator replied to Movieguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The blue collar folks in PA have guns and religion. Amazing that they have time for amusement parks, also. -
I think it's about $16-$18 for a full meal at Trapper's or Ristorante Della Piazza. I think that still includes a fabulous dessert. I can vouch for Trapper's BBQ or the Canneloni served at the Italian place. Not sure if the following food stand is still in the park. For a quick snack BGE used to have someone cooking up shrimp on a hot stone in a mixture of seasoning, beer and garlic.

JZ's Holiday World Visit May 20th

Yes - remember not to give money to non existent park lot attendant. If someone tries to scam you and walks up to your car as you are getting out of it and asks for a parking fee, DON'T FALL FOR IT! -
Below are the flat rides currently in the database, but fresh pictures are always welcome. I haven't been to the park in years. The only flat rides I remember that we need pictures of are the Tilt-a-Whirl and the infamous Hot Cat (Caterpiller without a canopy) Bullseye Flying Scooters Haunted House Kite Flyer Log Flume Skydiver Whip

Actually I do this, but one of the other moderators keeps deleting my posts.

Scott - If you had read those Jackie Robinson signs placed around the Daytona ballpark you would have understood why the basketball rim was there. I eagerly await the outcome of your quest to reach the faux island green. While I'm only a hacker and not a huge golf fan I enjoyed my visit to the Hall of Fame back in 2005 and seeing all the old golf equipment. -
Actually, the trick is to think of something mean that sounds clever, that takes a lot more than 5 seconds.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

^Sunday, while I was waiting in the switchbacks during 10 minutes dispatches, someone made a similar comment about a second train being added and that's why it was taking so long. I didn't feel like telling the person that the delays were being caused by people who refuse to acknowledge that they can not fit in the restraints. -

JZ's Holiday World Visit May 20th
larrygator replied to PKI Jizzman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Best place to eat - Good luck, the food is just average. Not bad food, just average. Tex/Mex at The Alamo is average, Pizza at Kringles Kafe is average (but if I remember correctly they have Sweet Tea there), Pork Tenderloin sandwich at Zoombabwe Grill was disappointing, BBQ Pork at BBQ USA was average. But Holiday World does have good fudge. On the log flume, my log stayed bone dry. I think only about 25% of my raft got slightly wet on the rapids. -
1 - At Camden Park, ride the Whip. It is one of the two only Whips I have been on that runs at its intended speed, creating a lot of forces. Seriously, I kid you not. 2 - When driving between Kings Dominion and SFA take Route 301 to avoid Northern Virginia/DC traffic. At worst you won't save any time, at best you will save an hour of aggravation. 3 - We really need a comprehensive PTR for Camden Park for the Park Index.

Are you calling me fat? Is he doesn't call you fat I will. Robb chose all of us to be mods because he trusts us with his investment, TPR. We are volunteers and sometimes we make mistakes. We try to be as even handed as possible. As one of the other mods said, we have a moderator forum that is very active (Hence you might see a lot of posts next to our names and wonder where the hell all our posts are). When we lock someone's post for not using the Search function you will generally see a reminder to use the search function the first time a poster does this. When we continually have to lock threads from the same person for the same reason, we may get a little harsher in our forum comments. However, what you don't see is that we have probably also been sending PM reminders to that poster pleading with them to shape and offering tips. Also, remember there is a reason we correct those who constantly post with slang, bad grammar, spelling errors or internet shorthand. Not only is it difficult for Eglish speakers, but remember TPR is an International site and English is a difficult langauge. Proper writing form is essential in order to continue receiving valuable input from TPR's friends around the world. Look at all the wonderful PTRs we have seen on coasters around the world in just the past 2 months (Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Netherlands, Israel etc...). Do you realize the effort many of our International members go to in order to participate in a foreign language site? Well reading poorly written posts, interpreting slang, and understanding internet shorthand becomes an even bigger challenge.

*** THE BEBES *** Rainbow Magicland ITALY TR
larrygator replied to The Bebes's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
On days that Knoebels sells wristbands you still have the option to use ride tickets. My guess is that the wristbands are only available for students visiting from certain schools. However, just to be on the safe side you might want to call their 1-800 number and check. 800 ITS 4FUN -

^Personally, I found Tony Luke's to be bland. Not many hidden gems at most of those parks outside of Kennywood and Knoebels. Jenkinson's has a FunHouse about 100 yards from the rides park. To me is was worth the $5. Casino Pier - don't miss Stilwalk Manor. Also keep in mind Funtown Pier is only a 1/2 mile walk south along the boardwalk. I'd skip Steel Pier and go to the parks in Ocean City. Gillian's Wonderland has a nice little L and T Systems coaster. Knoebels - of course pay the $1.20 upcharge for the Haunted House. Also, many people think the indoor ride is a Gravitron. The Cosmotron is an indoor Himilaya type ride with music and light effects.. -
I would trust cfc's advice. He is down with The Hummel Boy!

Six Flags Funatics Thread 2009

^Well the only way I can add more photos to the Park Index for SFGAdv, is if SFAGdv actually had some flat rides. So their ploy will not work and I still have a front of the line pass. But since I generally only go to the park for the first 2 hours or last 2 hours of the day when lines are short for ET and Nitro, the pass will not be that useful. I guess I might use it for Medusa if the lines are insane with the retheme. -
What type of ride is "Cyclone Sams?" With the stickers surrounding that one, I think it's safe to say this guy has never been laid. Excellent assessment. For those who haven't gotten the point. Go remove those stickers from your car, NOW!
