What is it about Kingda Ka?
larrygator replied to DJSonic's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Kingda Ka started running sometime behind 12-1PM today. However, it was no longer operating between 3-4PM. Can't tell you any more, as that is when I left the park. -
Thunderbolt at Kennywood doesn't allow single riders. If you are a single rider pay attention as you get close to the station as the ride ops will call out for a single rider to move forward to pair with another single rider who may be waiting.

Mark Shapiro Visits SFGAm
larrygator replied to mcjaco's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nice to know that you realize everyone (including yourself) has a choice. Money speaks louder than words anyway. No one has ever said you have to like Six Flags or even frequent their parks. Many of us are just looking for a rationale argument. Choosing to spend your money in an environment that best suits your needs makes much more sense than just bashing a place you don't like. For the record, many of the Six Flags supporters in this thread (including myself) really love Knoebels. I'm glad you found the place, it truly is a gem. -

Let me tell you how to address this. Preparedness. I was part a school trip to SFGAm last Friday. An all day trip from open to close with 5th and 6th graders. When you arrive on a bus, security gives the adult in charge a fact sheet to read to the whole bus. It didn't say anything about storage but the bus leader reminded all the kids of the loose items policy and that a $1 fee was needed for the big rides. You know what these 10 and 11 year olds decided to do? They left their bags and unnecessary items on the bus. If 10 and 11 years old can figure it out so should everybody. For the most part, most of them also decided that buying souvenirs and playing games should be left to late in the day, because not only is paying for storage a hassle, carrying stuff around isn't fun either. Agreed there are instances where people may have a need to carry personal items into a park but most of the people complaining here are not in that category. locker, locker, locker, locker -
Better Theming or More Track
larrygator replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Theming is nice to look at but I go to a park for the rides. If I want to look at something nice, I'll go to a museum or the beach. -
If you are never going to see them again then they probably weren't really friends.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
larrygator replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Why do I get the feeling that the ride operator used better grammar than you? Or as the GP might say, "Can coaster geeks be any dorkier?" -

^Those test lockers at SFGAdv were on Nitro and slowed down the dispatches more than the old bin system. Lockers were not always opened properly and/or in a timely manner, customers were confused which lockers were for their trains and there were still people climbing over each other to get back into their seats after placing their valuables in the lockers. -

larrygator replied to mcjaco's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes and the next step is to not allow friends and family to enter the coaster queues together. Talking to those around you is distracting. For the record there are no TVs along the queue lines for any of SFGAdv's major coasters. So why don't they charge $2 per locker. But your are right, if SF took a proper tactic and charged $125-$150 for a season pass at all parks, they wouldn't need to charge for lockers -

^Ghost Trains have been around a lot longer than Disney's Haunted Mansion. Ghost Trains did not model themselves after The Haunted Mansion. Hence, your effort to deconstruct the analogy has failed! -

^Doubling the number of people checking restraints is going to cost money. Those employees are paid. SF has found a solution to a problem without spending more money. For a company in deep debt, that is a good situation. -

"Other" parks having more ride ops checking restraints has no bearing on the fact that dispatch times are noticeably quicker without people leaving bags on the station platforms at Six Flags' parks. So you don't hate SF, but you hold a grudge to this day. That's a little confusing. As if it wasn't clear from your previous posts that you hold a grudge. Too bad you hold a grudge you are missing out on some other SF parks that are run quite well. -
Kiddieland was a much better park than I expected when I visited for the first and only time last weekend. It was a little shocking that a "Family" park is the first park I've been to where the security guards carried guns. They may have been tasers, I didn't get a good look. I guess that just speaks to the area where the park is located.

Mt Olypmus and Hades are worth it if you are already in the Dells, but don't miss out on Hellcat at Timber Falls. Even if you get the discounted after 5PM wristband you can power ride it for an hour before hitting the road. Or you can pay by the ride and leave the Dells earlier. Day 2 - I would go to Indiana Beach (need 2-3 hours maximum for coasters) instead of SFKK then head to KI. If you had another day, I'd say go to Holiday World and SFKK on a day between Indiana Beach and KI. To break up the drive it might want to consider going to Hershey the day before Busch Gardens. I'm not sure where you are staying in the Adirondacks, but Great Escape has a couple of coasters (only one good one) that might not be too far out of your way on the drive to LaRonde (You did say coasters were important). Depending on when you leave Canada's Wonderland you might be able to get to Martin's Fantasy Island (Buffalo, NY) for their nighttime discount. They have two coasters, one of which is an above average woodie. That would leave you time to go to Darien Lake the next morning, Waldameer in the afternoon and be at CP for a few hours at night. (I assume you are buying a Cedar Fair Max Pass since you are going to 5 CF parks). That gives you the full next day at CP and a couple of hours the next morning at CP if you stay near Sandusky. The only major park along the way that you would be missing with my itinerary is Kennywood, if only you could squeeze an another day into your trip, you could visit Kennywood between KI and Busch Gardens I would not back track to Morey Piers or Seabreeze nor drive out of the way to Beech Bend. Your time table is tight enough. I hope that helps.

And if you get there after 6PM, there is a good chance the line will have already built to a long wait. I also agree with Coasterfanatic that Myrtle Beach Pavillon's Horror Hotel was damn good. -

Theme Park or Amusement Park
larrygator replied to musicmand's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Or you could call them all amusement parks like I do, I'm get amusement out of all of them. Actually, I don't think I have ever used the term "theme park" outside of coaster/park forums. The general public (at least in the New York area) even gravitates to that term for all parks. Then again that might be a regional thing, like "soda" or "pop" or "coke". -
