  1. I've been to Magic Springs and it amazes me that they still have a rides side. 80% of the people were at the water park the day I visited and I've heard the same story from others. I thought the park could use more attractions. I struggled to spend more than 2 hours in the park. I did not find the dining options very intriguing for a small park. I do like Maurer Sohne X-cars and loved reriding the Arkansas Twister 30 years after my last ride.
  2. I certainly look forward to your European trip as I'm betting Wiener Prater on on your list. Would love to see what ride are still there since my visit as the vendors do have a habit of switching out rides.
  3. The project is still moving along. They were not able to complete work soon enough for the Halloween season. But remember this is first and foremost a Fun House, albeit with a haunted theme. So while getting the Fun House open in October was the ideal, it was not a necessity. The complex did have a well attended Halloween event showing two Horror movies from the 1950's on their new stage. If a recall correctly the license they are applying for is seasonal and only allows for the amusement area to operate 6 months out of the year, so if the plan is the operate continuously through Halloween I wouldn't expect an opening before the end of April. I was supposed to visit in December but got caught up in work and grad school. I hope to get more details shortly. In the meantime, I'm not going to post speculation. I'll only post about what I see in person or hear directly from the project leaders. I know some of you might view this as the never ending project, but I've seen it in person, even volunteering there, and progress is being made.
  4. Just in case you are curious Proposal are being accepted until February 28th for the redevelopment of the site. http://www.nola.com/business/index.ssf/2014/01/what_should_be_built_at_the_fo.html What should be built at the former Six Flags park in eastern New Orleans? Katherine Sayre, NOLA.com on January 14, 2014 at 5:07 PM The future of the former Six Flags amusement park site in eastern New Orleans will be determined in coming months. The Industrial Development Board, which holds title to the 150-acre, city-owned land, has begun accepting proposals from developers. The first deadline for proposals is Feb. 28. This is the second selection process for the site in recent years. In 2012, a committee chose Provident Realty Advisors and DAG Development to build a 400,000-square-foot outlet mall. But when a separate outlet mall took shape at the Riverwalk, the eastern New Orleans site developers walked away from the project, saying the market couldn't support two such malls. In the past, developers have also proposed amusement and water parks, an electric power plant, and a combination theme park-resort and sound stage. And just in case you are curious, of course their is banter and an organized effort to bring back Jazzland. http://www.jazzlandpark.com/
  5. Construction has begun on the installation of Looping Star (most recently at Sauble Beach, after Beech Bend) at Keansburg. This Pinfari death machine is replacing the storm damaged Wildcat. http://newjersey.news12.com/features/sandy/construction-begins-on-new-keansburg-roller-coaster-to-replace-the-wild-cat-that-was-destroyed-by-sandy-1.6791173 Keansburg roller coaster to replace the 'Wild Cat' that was destroyed by Sandy Originally published: January 13, 2014 6:52 PM KEANSBURG - Construction has begun on a new ride at Keansburg Amusement Park to replace the "Wild Cat" coaster mangled by the superstorm. The foundation is down for the new roller coaster, and parts of it have also arrived. It will have a loop taking passengers upside down. "Keansburg was known for the roller coaster amongst a couple of other major attractions," says Katie Johnson, of Keansburg Amusement Park. "And I think that this particular roller coaster is going to bring back the new blood." Right now the sign on it reads "Looping Star," but a spokesperson says the amusement park will have an online contest to come up with an original name. The roller coaster is scheduled for completion by March 1.
  6. It sounds like this large development project will include some amusement park rides based in the last sentence. With the amount they are building and the price I expect the amusement ride area to be small. I guess we'll know for sure in late 2016 when this is expected to be completed. http://www.constructionweekonline.com/article-25915-bahrain-green-lights-53m-theme-park/#.UtSq2bTD4WA Bahrain green lights $53m theme park on Jan 13, 2014 Work on a BD20m ($52.7m) theme park, that includes Bahrain's first full-size ice arena and indoor ski slope, will go ahead as planned next month, according to a senior government official. It comes after a municipal council shelved the project last week, fearing it would damage key sewage and water networks located at the site. Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Dr Juma Al Ka'abi told the Gulf Daily News that the overhaul of the Muharraq Grand Garden would not damage the grid. He said an agreement has been reached with the Works Ministry to divert sewage and water pipes during construction to avoid any disruptions to the network. The project has already suffered two years of delays, but finally got the green light after Dr Al Ka'abi and Bahraini investor Fouad Shuwaitar signed an agreement in October. The council had earlier voted to axe the proposal, but made a U-turn three days before the deal was signed when a new consortium came in to fund the development. The 93,618m2 project, near Bahrain International Airport, will include a three-storey shopping centre, business centre and a multipurpose convention and exhibition centre. It will feature an indoor sports arena, outdoor sports grounds, an aquatic museum, karting track, mosque and an elderly home and is expected to be ready in around two-and-a-half years. The development will also have restaurants, a fitness club and gym, family rest areas and amusement rides. Plans to turn the park into a miniature Disneyland were announced in 2007 but the project was later scrapped.
  7. If the cranes are that far away from the ride it might be because they are movable. So when not in use they move the cranes away from Kingda Ka as cranes have been known to collapse. It's not a good thing to have a crane fall on to a $25 million dollar coaster. Just my hypothesis.
  8. Wasn't this from their facebook page? Do you need to link or give credit when you take from their page? I've always been curious if we have to give credit if its not our own photo or from a parks page, I looked on the ToS but couldn't see anything. You've posted some for here and other parks so just wondering if you knew, i've always just posted the link back to the FB as a courtesy to whoever the original photographer was. Yes, it is strongly encouraged that you credit your source when posting photos that are not yours.
  9. I find it extremely racist that the title of the documentary references the color of the animal's skin. I thought we were past pointing things like that out in our society.
  10. There has been one week of severe weather in the region and that is most recent in many people's minds. I'll check these charts again when more data is available, but for November 2013. Average November Monthly Rainfall in New Jersey = 2.83 inches less than an average of 3.64 inches over the past 30 years. http://climate.rutgers.edu/stateclim_v1/data/njhistprecip.html Average Monthly Temperature in November in New Jersey was 43.0 degrees, which is 2.6 degrees lower than the most recent 30 year average. But an average temperature of 43 degrees should not prevent work from getting done. http://climate.rutgers.edu/stateclim_v1/data/njhisttemp.html I know there are plenty of engineering but don't use weather as a excuse. I didn't have to wear a winter jacket in November or December and the temperature in NYC doesn't deviate that greatly from Jackson, NJ.
  11. Nothing unexpected or severe for this time of year. Weather should not be an excuse for holding up construction.
  12. Interesting to hear since we have had a mild winter off season to date. This region has had one week of bad weather.
  13. It not weird, that's how business works. Sometimes a project just reaches a stage where the owners/investors realize they made a mistake and they cut their losses. Stupid business people keep investing in loser projects, successful people know when to get out. Similar to poker, you might have a very good hand, and know matter how much you have in the pot, you are not going to beat the straight flush the other guy is holding. Why doesn't someone buy all the stalled hotel/retail projects in Vegas invest millions more and finish them? Freestyle Park picked up HRP on the cheap and couldn't make it work. Why didn't someone pick up Freestyle Park on the cheap invest millions more and make it work? Suppose your 16 year car breaks down. You paid $5,000 for it 8 years ago. It's only going to cost $3,000 to fix it. Do you fix it? Some projects are just lost causes.
  14. WRONG! You click on the icon that looks like an exclamation point, to notify the moderating team. The moderating team will make the Spam thread magically disappear.
  15. Deno's Wonder Wheel Park has Spook House. It was refurbished after Hurricane Sandy. Although, they lost some classic stunts the totality of the new ride is much better. The ride features Spinning Pretzel Cars that don't spin. These are the only cars of this type currently in operation, until Wild Bill's completes their version. Also, in the Independent rides area there is another dark ride, Ghost Hole. It is portable but has been set-up in this footprint for years. Good effects, but not as good of Deno's Spook House. It think both rides currently cost $7 each. Here a link to a 2010 PTR that has a picture of the Ghost Hole facade
  16. Laser at Dorney Park I305 at Kings Dominion Nitro (in the helix) when I ride it while a little dehydrated. I'm sure there are other coasters where it occurred to me when I was dehydrated but I can't recall.
  17. I stop by about once a week on the way home from work for Nathan's No machinery on site. Ground leveling has not started. No construction has been done. No parts on site. Just to follow-up on a previous comment I made, here is a map with possible areas for future expansion outlined in red. Of course, the parcels for Thunderbolt and B&B Carousell are no longer available for expansion.
  18. Thank you for pointing that out. I fixed it right after I amended your signature that was too long and violated TPR's ToS.
  19. Luna Park - 30 minutes SFGAdv - 50 minutes Dorney - 80 minutes
  20. So it was fake, before you let everyone know it was real?
  21. Things are looking up for YOUR park.
  22. Please use this existing thread! A poll is not necessary.
  23. Here's a more comprehensive article I found http://www.mobile-ent.biz/games/angry-birds/angry-birds-4d-is-flying-into-thorpe-park/042643 Caw blimey, a 4,000 square metre themed world is on the way. Rovio has been introducing tangible Angry Birds attractions to various child-friendly locations over the past year, with Lightwater Valley investing £1 million in the venture and Holiday Club Resorts signing up for themed birthday parties and cafes. The Finnish games studio has now secured an even bigger deal, however, which will reach kids and adults alike as Angry Birds 4D lands at the UK's Thorpe Park. It's not the first time the Merlin Entertainments-owned theme park has featured 4D, having previously used its cinema to showcase Pirates 4D, which was succeeded by Time Voyagers. The concept plays a short ten-minute movie, but adds to the experience with vibrating seats, jets of water and so on, techniques that are really common at Stateside parks including Universal Studios. The Merlin Entertainments-owned theme park will go beyond a cinematic experience though, opening a new 4,000 square metre themed Angry Birds land that will include a new bumper car attraction, while the existing 13-year-old, 100-foot Detonator ride will be giving an avian revamp. Both Rovio and Merlin will work together on the project and the new venue is set to open in May 2014 as part of a long-term strategic partnership. Mark Fisher, chief development officer for Merlin Entertainments, said: "Thorpe Park Resort is the UK’s Thrill Capital, and we believe the ideal environment for Angry Birds 4D and theme park debut. "Its young adult and family visitors are the core target audience of the Angry Birds franchise and no one is better placed than Merlin to capture the fun and humour of this fantastic IP – not least because most of my Magic Making colleagues are already great fans.” Dan Mitchell, director of location based entertainment, added: "It’s great to be teaming up with Merlin Entertainments and Thorpe Park Resort, and we hope this will be just the first of many projects together. "We are continuously looking to create amazing experiences for our fans by finding new ways to bring our characters from the digital world to the physical world. Having the game jump out of the screen and come alive around you is going to be incredible. We are confident that the partnership with Merlin, along with 3DBA, will bring this amazing experience to life."
  24. If this is the real price, makes you wonder why more parks have not built Dive machines. They really are fun coasters to me. I take a Sheikra over a Gatekeeper any day. Remember, Busch had US exclusivity for when Dive machines were the new thing. $17,000,000 is still a lot of money. The general public is usually wowed by more loops and bigger heights.
