Knott's Halloween Haunt 2009
FitchCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Alright, so Knott's finally reached 1000 tweets, so the juicy 'Haunt goodness' has finally been released - and it keeps on coming! Here's what has been released so far, with the newest 'tweets' at the bottom... I've bolded the 'points of interest': -The new maze behind Mystery Lodge is "Terror of London" - a journey through the fog filled streets of Jack the Ripper's London.... - http://twitpic.com/9jeid - Check out this behind-the-scenes picture of brand new HEARSE for Halloween Haunt! This one will be a 4 X 4!! -The Asylum Maze at Knott's Scary Farm's Halloween Haunt will be undergoing a change this year.... -The Asylum is now Lockdown: The Asylum! A high security penitentiary for the insane. THERE IS NO ESCAPE FROM LOCKDOWN. -Terror of London: Step lively or you'll fall victim to Jack the Ripper's blade or Dr. Jekyll's twisted experiments! BRAND NEW FOR HAUNT 2009 -Lockdown: The Asylum will be a lot more than just an updated version of The Asylum. It's more like a brand new experience. VERY DIFFERENT! Now for my opinion. The names are kind of 'meh', I admit. "Lockdown: The Asylum" just sounds like a name for a lame movie sequel and Terror of London doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Names of mazes don't really matter to me however, it's how they're pulled off. I do realize that HHN has used the 'Jack the Ripper' theme in the past, so I'm glad that Knott's is taking that theme and expanding upon it with Dr. Jekyll and hopefully more 'legends'. Lockdown: The Asylum pretty much sounds like it's going to be The Asylum... but on steroids. The Asylum is already amazing as is, so I can't wait to see what they'll do to make it "VERY DIFFERENT!". Haunt '09 sounds very promising so far. What are your guys' thoughts? -
Entertaining, funny ride ops.
FitchCoaster replied to GivenOneChance's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The most memorable for me was at Speed: The Ride at Las Vegas. The ride ops did the safety spiel but didn't launch the train yet due to some mechanical issues. After they got it back up and running, they did the safety spiel again. "Please keep your arms inside the car at all times, and make sure loose items..." *LAUNCH* It was hilarious because people seemed so worried about being stuck on the launch for so long, and they were so focused on the safety spiel because of that. The expressions on everyone's faces was priceless. -
^ Yeah, my grandmother and my mom told me something similar. I was a weird child (well, am a weird child, hahaha) and thought it was fun to make weird faces in public. They told me that whenever the wind blew, if it blew hard enough my face would get stuck like that. And that's why I don't make weird faces in public anymore. Often.

Sounds like my kind of show! I'm all up for shows/movies that don't take themselves seriously. I wasn't too sure of this when it was announced, but after seeing these pictures and the video, I have faith. Not a huge fan of movies turned into musicals, but the show looks intriguing, to say the least. The whole concept is pretty 'different'. If it doesn't have the story going for it, at least the sets and acrobatics looks impressive, and that huge creature is pretty darn cool. Still not too sure about this, guess I'll have to see it in person. It actually gives me a reason to finally head back down to USH! Thanks for the media day report!

^Thanks for the satellite image, that kind of cleared up for me where the new lands will be placed. The more and more I read about these lands, I get more excited for Mystic Point and Grizzly Gulch, and less enthusiastic about Toy Story Land. A lot of the recent Disney rides have been based on characters from movies, and I've been waiting for them to come out with a ride with an original theme. Although the ideas of both rides from Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point are pretty much 'borrowed' from existing rides (Haunted Mansion and BTMRR), I'm just glad there's no movie overlay on either one. However, I just can't get excited about Toy Story Land. I want to think that it's going to be great, but I just keep picturing A Bug's Land with a Toy Story theme. Still hoping that Disney proves me wrong.

TPR's Termination Day! Sunday, June 28th, 2009
FitchCoaster replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I think that's exactly what made morning and night ERT so fun, is that bringing everyone together really generated a lot fun energy. Since we didn't attend the party, we spent the whole day at the park. The time in between the two ERT sessions was still fun, but it lacked the excitement of doing something special with a group of people. In fact, one of the major reasons why I fell in love with our ERT sessions was not only the rides on Terminator but how energetic and excited everyone was to be there. In my opinion, a park buyout would be cool if there were also extra things planned. Otherwise it would just feel like a normal, slow day at the park. I always thought buying out a park for a whole day would be awesome, but after finally doing a TPR event, I'd much rather take a few really "special perks" throughout the day. -
I can't take it! It's just too beautiful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyVQNFJg3go

^ Great video and footage, you've got some awesome angles there. My favorite was the sunset shot of Tatsu at 2:26. Makes me wish it was yesterday again! -
Best Re-ride Roller Coasters
FitchCoaster replied to AviatorCoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Terminator is really rerideable, it's just a really fun and fast ride. I got 17 rides on it and wanted more! Also, yesterday at Termination Day, Colossus really surprised me. I asked Jaclyn if she wanted to ride it just to waste some time, because normally my opinion of the ride is just "meh." We decided to ride in the back row, and although a bit shaky, it was awesome! There was a nice 'tug' feeling at the crest of each drop and there was actually a bit of airtime. We just couldn't get enough. We only got 4 rides in though, because we wanted to get to night ERT on time. However if we had more time, we would have ridden it bunch more times. -

^ Hey! We rode with you guys a couple of times, thought you looked familiar. Btw, I loved your guys' interpretation of the ride audio. I was laughing the whole time! "HERE THEY COME!!" -
What have you been hit in the head with?
FitchCoaster replied to zaneymon's topic in Random, Random, Random
At the end of drumline practice after school one day, I guess she wanted me to carry her sticks. I wasn't paying attention so I didn't know that she wanted me to. She thought it was a smart idea to throw one at me from across the basketball court. I had a huge bump on the middle of my forehead for about a week. -

Thank you TONS Robb, Elissa, SFMM and everyone else involved in this. This was me and Jaclyn's first TPR event and I gotta say, not our last! We got 17 rides on Terminator and like Robb said, the night rides were just unbeatable! Our dispatcher and his 'spiels' were pretty awesome, hahaha. Overall ERT on Terminator tonight was just an amazingly great time. We didn't get to go to the party, but we had fun nonetheless. It actually turned out to be one of the most fun days I've had at the mountain in awhile. Oh and btw, I think I speak for the both of us (Jaclyn and I) when I say KidTums is incredibly cute! -
I saw Transformers 2 two days ago on opening day, and it was awesome! The humor was at times over the top, well in fact the whole movie was over the top. But it was perfect for what it aimed to be: an over the top, in your face summer blockbuster. The story wasn't to die for, but I don't think it was meant to be a meaningful and complex movie. It did a great job at entertaining the audience and throughout the movie, I felt Michael Bay really knew what the audience wanted: explosions, robots, and Megan Fox (and that 'girl' in the school, but I'm not going to spoil anything). I think the majority of the people saying "It had no story!" are looking into the movie way more than they have to. To be honest, if you really dissect the story, it's pretty much the same concept as the first movie. To fully enjoy the movie, you really just need to turn your brain off and enjoy the corny humor and the overabundance of explosions and robot battles (which is not necessarily a bad thing!). Overall, I'd give it a 9/10.

The Mega Dead Celebrity Thread
FitchCoaster replied to frozenflames's topic in Random, Random, Random
I'll be the first to say that I'm tired of hearing of his death, but I do think that his music - not his death - should be recognized. I really do think that you have to respect him, even if you don't agree with his lifestyle. Coming from a musician's standpoint, his music was legendary compared to what's aired on the radios today. I was listening to the radio and jamming along to one of his songs, then some rap song followed and it really made me realize that his music was really very special. I just can't think of any other artist that compare to his style. I certainly did think that he was creepy and a bit 'out-there', but his music and style is timeless and has made an impact not only on music, but our culture as we know it. -

Six Flags New England Bizarro Media Day Photo TR
FitchCoaster replied to sfne2005's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
^ Wow, those lighting effects are neat! I was not too excited about the new changes for this ride, but everything they've done to it has really, really impressed me. Between this Bizarro, SFGADV's Bizarro and Terminator, I'm am so stoked for the future of Six Flags rides. I especially love the stobes on the Superman/Bizarro logo tunnel (the thrid vid). I hope to one day ride this! -

I'll register tomorrow when I get the money, hope it doesn't sell out by then, haha. I'm so excited for this, finally a TPR event I'll be able to attend! Thanks for setting this thing up, I'm sure it will be a blast. Also, what was the response to Corcoran's question about the t-shirts? Just curious. -
I tried Mountain Dew Throwback a couple nights ago. IMO, it's delicious! I love regular Mountain Dew, but sometimes I can't drink a lot of it because it is too sweet. MD Throwback is perfect, it's not as sweet but the taste is mostly the same.

I've been listening to a lot of Streetlight Maniresto lately, mostly Point/Counterpoint. Such an awesome song, it's slowly becoming my favorite. Also being the total band geek that I am, I've been listening to First Suite by Gustav Holst lately. This year is the piece's 100th annoversary and we played it for our band's final concert. Check it out if you haven't heard it before, such an amazing piece of music.

That movie was the first Star Trek film I've ever seen, but those let scenes were so well done, I got the chills also. The whole movie was awesome, it's now one of my favorites. Oh and I gotta admit, I thought all those lens flares were pretty nifty!

Well, I typed up a review of the DVDs at school on my phone earlier today, but obviously it didn't end up posting, so I'll give a summarized version of what I thought: Both DVDs exceeded my expectations, again. This should be expected from a TPR DVD, but apparently it hasn't hit me yet. Every single DVD never fails to impress me, which a good thing. The things I liked most about both RAW 3 and CE12 were the updated intros and menus on both. It really added more of a professional quality to each DVD, although the past DVD were pretty much professionally done to begin with. I loved the little history information of each roller coaster on RAW 3. I"ve only watched the woodies disc so far, I'll finish up the steelies disc one day when I have more time, haha. All in all, the DVDs were an "orgiastic" experience!

I could be completely wrong, but I think the problem (at least for southern California) is that there are really no outstanding wooden coasters here. The only wooden coasters in SoCal that the GP will most likely compare it to is Ghostrider... and maybe Colossus, which are just seen by the GP as 'okay' rides. This is why I'm excited for Terminator. SoCal needs a good, quality wooden coaster. Hopefully this can show the GP not all wooden coasters are rickety and rough. EDIT: ^ Beat me to the punch.
