  1. My first coaster was Rollo Coaster at Idlewild. I'd say that's a great beginning coaster, maybe not the first though. It's pretty rough and kinda scary for younger kids, because it's actually pretty fun and has some decent airtime. I think it scarred my cousin, who normally is fearless, from riding coasters. I'd have to agree with a lot of others on here. Starting out smaller, then gradually stepping them up to bigger and better things. It also depends on where you live. If you only have access to 1-2 small parks, your choice for a first coaster for you child may be limited than say if you lived by KD.
  2. I'm confused.... I've been playing trombone for 5 years, and my band director mentioned I should double on baritone/euphonium for marching band, as marching baritones are easier to march with than trombones. I started about 3 weeks ago and I am in love with the sound of that horn. One of the other instructors of our band is amazed at my tone. I know the school has a beautiful silver concert euphonium and I've been thinking about, starting my 10th grade year, auditioning for District Band/Orchestra on both trombone and euph. However, I take private trombone lessons and I'm not so sure really how to bring it up to my teacher. I love both instruments, I just hate trombone parts in orchestral pieces. And I'm also auditioning for the local youth symphony and I'm still not sure if that wind-lacking ensemble needs a trombone or a euph. more. Euphonium parts almost always contain beautiful solos and melody parts and the trombone always gets stuck with like 50 gazillion measures of resting, and when we do play, it's always something dumb. I doubt he'll care, but It's just weird. Also, there are 2 concert bands in my town, the Reed Band and the Civic Band, and they hate each other. My band director, one of our visual/music staff members (Actually a different school's director) and my private teacher are both in the Civic Band, and I'm in the Reed Band. It's really funny to argue with my band director about which is better because we get along so great. I really don't care about the whole Reed/Civic band thing. It's always funny to joke with them about it. There's at least 250+ pieces of music in the Reed Band folders to choose from. Why do we play the same ~15 songs every single year? The guy who wrote our marching band show needs to learn not to write stuff from previous shows he's done for us in them. There's stuff from last year's marching band show and the indoor percussion show from 2 years ago in this year's show. It's just really odd. It started raining at Kennywood yesterday right after the parade. We were gonna ride Pitt Fall, and I had never been on a drop tower before and I was excited. Guess what happened after we got in line? Thunder. Yep. SO there goes that plan. Then I went to get a refill on my souvenir cup I had from earlier this year then, and my whole group except for 1 person ditched me. I then had to go back to the pavilion in the pouring rain, with the person I was with stopping in every single gift shop to buy something. HE NEVER DID!! By the time we got back, we were both soaking wet Sky Rocket was not worth an hour in line IMO. It had technical difficulites, then they decided to put a second train on after hour-long waits were prevalent ALL DAY!!! And the music in the line kept randomly stopping. I'm sorry if this was a little too long, or if the first few rants made no sense to you. At least I found out the new assistant band director is a coaster nut like myself. He told me how ACE almost wasn't allowed back to Idlewild when he worked there, because of what they were trying to do on rides. PS: I might become a Club TPR member this October!
  3. I'm sure their injuries had nothing to do with getting hit by an inflatable at 71 mph I said nothing about getting hit with an inflatable. I read the article as they got injured when the e-stop occurred, implying they were injured by hitting the restraints. The e-stop occurred on the second hill (most likely the MCBR) because the inflatable had blown onto the tracks. I don't think anyway was actually hit with anything.
  4. Yeah, a hyper or a mini-hyper, Like Hollywood Dream, from B&M would be great! I don't know about a dive machine, but who knows? From Intamin, a hyper would be great, or just a sit-down looper from them. But maybe HP is done with inverting coasters for a while. Whatever they install, I hope to get out and ride it eventually!
  5. ^ Yeah, I was really mad when that happened and felt the fact they went on a WATER ride WITH our phones was kinda stupid... But oh well, what can ya do?
  6. I love Hersheypark to death. I've been there twice, but I'm missing 5 credits. None of my friends (not big thrill seekers) never wanted to ride Storm Runner or Fahrenheit. And, the first year I was there, It was Fahrenheit's opening season, so the line was humongoid! (One of my many technical terms.) I'm not too much a fan on Mice, and Comet's line was always long. And I'm not too much of a fan of being soaked, so we skipped Roller Soaker as well. I wish I could go back there. Oh, funny story about my first trip to HP. We were riding something, (Trailblazer, IIRC) and we gave our stuff(phones, wallets, etc) to our friends who weren't riding. Well, when we were done, our friends were nowhere to be found. I came up with the bright Idea to use a payphone to call my phone and find them. Turns out they went on TIDAL FORCE! WITH OUR PHONES!!! Luckily, mine survived. (This was back when I had one of those crappy TracFones that can withstand anything, LOL.) My friend's enV Touch (what I have now) wasn't so lucky. The second time we were there, we were able to manathon Trailblazer. I think we rode it like 10 times! That coaster was always a walk-on...
  7. ^That looks like it hurt. A lot. Back On topic. I just don't get how you can injured from an e-stop. If i recall from when i rode it in May, Griffon isn't going fast enough on the MCBR to cause bodies hitting the OTSR when an e-stop would hppen. Maybe some bruising for a very few who bruise easily. Unless it wasn't on the MCBR, but then that's the only other "hill" Griffon has.
  8. I just e-mailed Dan and I made sure to include my mailing address, even though I may not even get a Bag Of Crap... I never thought to before and I guess I should at least try. The only thing is that I wasn't sure what to put in the subject line...
  9. Glad you had a good time at Kings Island. I really have wanted to go there for a LONG time. And I don't know if I'll ever get to... Anyway, enough sulking. It kinda sucks you didn't get to do all you wanted to do. I kinda know that feeling from when I went to BGE. I wished I could've done more, but the fact we were on a field trip kinda put a damper on that. I'm still kicking myself about sitting out for Curse of DarKastle...
  10. A great TR from 2 places I've always wanted to visit. SFMM doesn't look as bad as some people say, but I don't know. I'd just like to go to another Disney park, be it WDW, Disneyland, DLP, or even TDL. (The first one being the most likely.) I don't know when I'll ever get to go there. I just had such a great time at WDW, and I didn't even get to do all 4 parks! Ah well. I'll get to go again someday!
  11. I always enjoy seeing TR's from places I really want to go to. I've always wanted to go to the Mall of America and I'm glad you guys are having a great time. IKEA is another place I'd like to go to, just to experience it... (Also, there is a possibility of a chance of a slight hope that I might be able go on a TPR trip in 2012, depending on where the trips are!)
  12. I'm so excited this park is back, it's so funny and give me a good laugh every time I look at it! Actually it makes me want to play RCT2...I still have my original disc from when I first got it, but I don't know where my expansion discs went!
  13. I'm gonna be at Kennywood in a couple of weeks and I'm really excited to experience this "ejector air in the inversions." THAT SOUNDS CRAZY! I might do a PTR, but I kinda feel weird taking pictures and being "touristy." It may happen...
  14. I've only been on 2 of those, and they are the ones people deem as the "least worthy": Thunderbolt and Viper. Paul Ruben does seem like a douche. I've seen him on some shows and I believe I have a DVD that features him giving his "opinions" on coasters, before some onride/offride footage of said coaster. I got it for my birthday or something.
  15. I really need to get out more and ride some more coasters...hard when you're 14 and the only member of your family that rides anything. 1. Batman: The Ride (SFGAm) 2. Alpengeist (BGE) 3. Great Bear (Hershey Park) And that's all of them I've rode. I wish I could go on a TPR trip... *sigh* WARNING: TEENAGER AGE RANT INCOMING Sucks being 14. But I'll get over it and maybe ride some more coasters in 2011. 2010 wasn't that bad.I went to BGE with Student Council, Kennywood with my 8th grade class, (Sky Rocket was NOT open) and will be going to Kennywood again on August 21 with the Marching Band. Wait, I though i was in the Rant thread for a moment. (Oh, I might have been able to go to East Coast Bash, If Kennywood wasn't the day before. I would have to leave for KD when I got home from Kennywood ) RANT OVER Yeah, I know when I'm older I'll wish I was 14 again...but I can't wait to grow up a bit more...
  16. I really don't do anything when I ride roller coasters, other than have the most stupid looking smile on my face. All the on-ride photos that are ever taken of me are HORRID! My hair is always pushed up, and I have my mouth wide open. I guess I laugh sometimes. I really need to stop smiling with my mouth open when I ride coasters, bugs might fly in there!
  17. I feel very sorry for the families of those involved in the collapse. It's so horrible! I always put thoughts of rides collapsing when I'm on them in the back of my mind while at parks, but this just shows that anything can happen at anytime!
  18. I really can't wait to go there in August with the Marching Band and ride Sky Rocket. I went there back in May with my class and was disappointed when I found out it wouldn't be open yet. It'll be my first coaster with a launch, to tell you the truth (Yeah, I don't get to too many parks out of my area). Oh, and about the "Pittsburg's" from Lost Kennywood's "Lost H." There was a time when all "burgh"s in Pennsylvania lost their H's to be "modernized" according to the state, and all of them, save Pittsburgh, still don't have it, Greensburg, PA for example. It got it back because IIRC, it was the first "Burgh" and requested to get it back. The era that Lost Kennywood represents is the time when it was "Pittsburg." Did I sound demeaning? I didn't mean to, and I'm sorry if you did already know this!
  19. ^ I always personally defined a rural town as a town WITH nothing to do. I will admit it isn't really that close to anything (Latrobe is the closest town with major stores like Wal-Mart, at about 12 Miles away. I'm not really trying to get into an argument here, and I respect your opinion. I just define rural differently than you. How many rural town have their own website?: http://www.ligonier.com/ Haha. But I kinda understand what you mean, it lies in between rural and urban. But we are not here to discuss rural vs. urban, we're here to discuss Roller Coasters. I didn't mean to cause a debate among two people on Ligonier being rural or urban.
  20. Ligonier is definitely not a rural town. I mean, it's not a big city with a mall (or anything like it) but it's not rural. It's a very nice town with some nice stores in the Diamond. Not to mention Fort Ligonier! Anyway, Idlewild, being my home park, is A LOT more than shown here, whoever said it's for little kids only. I haven't been in StoryBook Forest or on the Trolley in a LONG time, and I have fun every time I go there. I'm going there on Tuesday for our Church Picnic and will probably be doing a PTR.
  21. IIRC, the last coaster I rode was Griffon at BGW on May 22 on our Student Council spring trip.
  22. Wow, I really haven't posted on here in quite a while. Mine would be Leap the Dips. (PS..there might be a PTR coming from me next week. Keep your eyes pealed!)
  23. Mine is sort of explained in my signature, but i might as well fully explain it. It's a 45 adapter. I collect 45s. Get it? A 45 adapter snaps into 45s, so it makes 45s with big holes fit on the smaller holes of most record players, unless the turntable already has a 45 adapter that stays by the record player or is built in.
  24. The only one I can think of would be: 2008 Ghostwood Estates-Kennywood.
