  4. Park structurally sound, still needs improvements By Jane Smith 03/01/07 — All of the rides at Conneaut Lake Park were deemed structurally sound by an engineer who did a survey as part of a master plan for the park’s future prepared by the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County. And all but a few of the buildings received similar positive reviews. At the same time, the study notes that the reviews of the buildings “do not represent or include a detailed structural analysis or assessment, and building infrastructure was not reviewed.” Porter Consulting Engineers of Meadville did the survey as part of a master plan funded from a $175,000 state grant to determine the future of Conneaut Lake Park. The survey shows none of the following have any “structural problems”: Dreamland Ball-room, Dockside, Beach Club, Lakeview picnic shelter, park office, Hotel Conneaut, Conven-tion Hall, storage garage, Skeeball building, games building, Log Cabin gift shop, midway stand and others. However, the former bowling alley was described as in very poor structural condition. It is being used currently for storage. The survey said costs associated with necessary repairs may exceed costs of razing the building and constructing another one. Demolition was recommended for the “Dippin Dots” building, near the miniature train station. A building housing games on the midway wasn’t rated as to whether it’s structurally sound, but the survey showed it’s in below-average condition. Portions of the roof structure and foundation have failed over time at the rear portions of the building. A survey of the old firehouse notes it’s in “poor condition,” with water damage, but an interior study wasn’t completed. All the rides were deemed to be structurally sound as well. While Dreamland Ballroom had no structural problems, the engineer said various additions and renovation work has been done which detracts from the original construction. “Restor-ation of this building to its original architectural design is recommended for historical purposes,” the report said. ...and the hits just keep on coming. Dip 'n Dots must go!
  5. Road to Closing... That'd make a great dark ride! Instead of an interactive dark ride with laser guns, they give you bean bags that you toss at disgruntled employees.
  6. At least that's better than a cornholing arena! Thomas the Tank Engine Rules!
  7. ^^i was looking for that yesterday.. LMAO! Let's see: Move X-Flight and SUE/Steel Venom and replace them with bean bags. God, whatta selling point, not to mention cost effective!
  8. hmmmm, first an announcement about 13-14 yr old pregnant brits, now this from Prince Charles. Perhaps it's the secret ingredient in the fries that's casuing the pregnancies???? Charlies says: Love my Good 'n Plenty's!
  9. Stearns is another name to add to the list that changes every year. I hope he gets paid, for what that's worth. I think some of the business people in the area knew this would happen. That could be why all of a sudden they're making names for themselves, speaking out about the park.
  10. Chippewa lake Park. Went from woods, lake and no rides to rides and no woods. Now it's Woods devouring the left behind rides, burned out cars and trucks and blown away buildings.
  11. ^Yeah, watching that ball rotate was like watching the TAzmanian Devil without audio.

  15. Continous Supply of Fresh Meat. Keeps their food costs down, extending profit margin and nobody can taste the differance anyway. They survived the 'finger' incident, this will do nothing to hurt the chain.
  16. Great topic! Current equip: (most of which is over 8 yrs old) Brunswick Purple Rhino Pro Ebonite Turbo Xl (Bowled my first 300 with it on 11/19/1999) Columbia Blue dot (the rock) great for dry lanes and summer leagues. Columbia White Dot. Columbia Yellow Dot, one of the first bleeders (first gen reactive???) I haven't bowled leagues in about 3 yrs. Got burned out from bowling 3-4 leagues a week for several years. High 3-game was 755 with the PR Pro. 300 was with the Turbo Xl (while having the worst four-game mixed couples classic league day of my life.) didn't even break 700... Do you eat the alley food? In the last twenty years, i've gotten food poisoning twice. Sure, it might make ya sick, but it does taste good. i saw someone make a 5-7-10 with an 8lb ball and mega crank on it. It was funny to watch.

  23. Gotta wonder what their parents really think about this. I'd flip if either of my daughters, at 14 would've looked at me and said: Hi dad, you're gonna be a grand dad. When i was 30, i dated a 30yr old grandmother. That was odd, especially when i met her mother who was 45.
  24. Park loses big on 2006 operations By Keith Gushard 02/22/07 — Conneaut Lake Park lost more than $100,000 from operations in 2006 — and the loss would have been even greater except for the benefit of an insurance payment, according to a preliminary financial report. The amusement park lost $116,000 from Jan. 1, 2006, through Oct. 31, 2006, according to Mark Turner, executive director of the Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County. Economic Progress Alliance of Crawford County was the agency awarded a $175,000 state grant in March 2006 to develop a master plan for the park. The master plan is needed before the park could seek any future state grants that might become available. In their current efforts, alliance workers are thoroughly studying the park’s financial records. Had park officials not received a $51,762 insurance settlement in 2006 for a September 2005 fire at the former Flynn house, the park’s operation loss for the period would have been almost $168,000 Turner said. As a result, the park’s accumulated operating losses grew by another $134,000 in 2006, Turner said. The accumulated operating loss is now up to about $1.8 million and includes such things as outstanding accounts payable, outstanding utility bills, real estate taxes and credit card debt. The park’s total debt load — including previous borrowings and the accumulated operating losses — is now around $2.7 million, he said. Turner presented the preliminary report Wednesday at an alliance meeting. A full report is expected to be released by the Alliance by the end of next week, he said. “We’ll issue it publicly,” Turner told the Tribune. “We’ll ask the (Crawford County) Court (of Common Pleas) to endorse it and use it as a reorganization plan for the park. It’s going to include implementation recommendations.” The amusement park came under county court control after it was ruled a charitable trust to be held for the people of northwestern Pennsylvania. Turner said park officials will have a chance to comment on the report before it’s issued. Both the park’s court-appointed administrator, H. LeRoy Stearns, and manager, George Deshner, said they had not reviewed the report yet. “I haven’t had a chance to look it over,” Stearns said. “We just got the report yesterday (Tuesday),” Deshner said. Deshner said he’s concerned the report may not take into consideration inventory on hand such as beverages, food and gift shop items that he estimated to be worth more than $20,000. Also, the report ended Oct. 31, 2006, and doesn’t take into account approximately $31,000 made during the Holiday in the Park event in December, Deshner said. I've got to consider grant writing. 175,000 for creating a plan for the park.
  25. This ranks right up there with the lady that fell off Dollywoods train a couple of years ago. Human error. Wonder what Disney will pay out this time.
