I honestly was a loyal PS3 consumer up until the PS3 launch. Its not that I dislike Sony, I just saw the potential in the 360, and came to the realization that it would probably be a year after launch before I really see any good games be released. I did alot of reading and found that the multi-platform games looked just as good on the 360 and in most instances, ran better. I made the decision that the PS3 still had to improve before I made my investment. I think there are quite a few great games for the 360. My recommendations would be: Exlusives -Dead Rising which you are already interested in -Gears of War -Guitar Hero II, which will have a plethora of downloadable content -Crackdown, a pretty decent mix of City of Heroes and the GTA games, oddly enough! -Lost Planet Im sure there are other good exclusives , those are just my recommendations. Alot of the games I like are crossplatform.. But if hey, if it looks just as good on the 360, why pay the extra money? Might as well wait for either the price of the PS3 to drop, or for more Sony exclusives.

Market does not need Blue-Ray says UK X-box CEO
Imhotep replied to verticalzero's topic in Random, Random, Random
Maybe the market didnt need Blu-Ray this year, but it will need something of that nature eventually. The PS3 is designed with a 10 year lifespan in mind. Im sure within a few years disks of a much larger size will become the standard, whether it be HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Im sure Microsofts next console will be either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray based, depending on the status of the formats. It seems as technology improves, we run out of space just as quickly as it can be increased.. Just look at the new harddrive just announced for the 360. Basically, Im sure something like Blu-Ray will be hard to dismiss in a few years time. Good find man! -
I saw that right when I came into work thismorning on IGN. Thats good news for me, I will be putting in my preorder today!

I felt the OTSRs weren't too bad or restricting, but if I put my hands up the OTSR hurt my shoulders like hell. Either way, I felt very safe. -
^ Im not sure if it will support HDMI 1.3.. I would assume yes since the PS3 does. It will definately do 1080p over HDMI. The 360 can currently do 1080p over component if you have a TV capable of doing so (which most can't). As far as the harddrive, it will be 120g. As far as I know, you have to use the proprietary harddrives for the 360 unlike the PS3. I just came across a pic of the article that will appear in Game Informer next month. Its got a pic of the black box and it says "The rumors are all coming true" , then basically explains the HDMI and the hard drive. Still, no confirmation from MS. Could this be just one huge April Fools joke??

GMAN, Ive been following this release closely and waiting for an announcement for months lol. I would have to agree with you that I think its pretty much confirmed, however Microsoft hasn't officially announced anything so its really hard to say that those pics on Engaget are anything more than one of several different prototypes.. The pics of the black system could be photoshopped. There are pics of the packaging that are obviously fakes. Its still really speculation until its announced. Hopefully there will be an official announcement soon. Microsoft has said that if the demand was great enough they would address adding HDMI, so the Zephyr would be a smart move for them. As for the black, honestly its kind of cool, but I would rather have white because of all the accessories. Im thinking it would look stupid sitting there next to a white HD-DVD drive and white controllers. I guess they are saying the black is just a limited edition thing, so I will wait until they release the white case version.

I just reformated and installed Vista on my laptop. I love it, it runs smoother than XP ever did on my machine. Very mac-ish, but is that a bad thing? Nah..

I went into EB this weekend to pay off my Guitar Hero II preorder, and one of the guys asked if I would like to put a reserve on anything else. I asked him what was coming out. After naming off a few games, he mentioned that the Elite 360 was coming out and I could put a reserve down on it. As far as I know, the Zephyr hasn't been confirmed by Microsoft, he says the SKU was in their computer and they were allowed to take preorders and discuss trade in towards the box (he told me I could trade my current 360 in for $180 credit, but around the release there will be deals to get more out of your trade). I didn't do it because I didnt want to get burned, it not being officially announced and all. I was just very shocked to hear all this. Either that or I missed the official announcement. For those that don't know, it has a 120gb hard drive, HDMI capabilities, a quieter disk drive and a redesigned processor that is supposed to put off alot less heat. Its also black, but I would honestly rather have it in white since of course all the accessories are white. I have been wanting it since I first heard the rumors, since I dont want a PS3 but I want to game and watch HD-DVDs in 1080p. Anyways, is anyone else looking forward to the Zephyr/Elite 360?

Kennedy Space Center - new ride next year
Imhotep replied to redbaron314's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sounds like a possible Mission:Space clone. Nonetheless, its pretty awesome to see a thrillride attraction coming to KSC! UPDATE: More info! Well after reading that Im not sure what to expect. They are saying NOT a thrill ride, so probably not a Mission:Space clone.. A Motion Sim perhaps? -
Well since they said her job was safe, Im sure Bill Oefelein will be first in line to test it. Nothing like a batshiat crazy astronaut to resurrect a thread!

Now?? Definately! Only I bet it will be harder to get one of these tickets than it was to even preorder a PS3.

Any wireless gaming adapter will work for sure. Ive seen some gaming adapters for as low as $30bucks online. ^I tested out the xbox through the vga cable.. It does upscale the movies to 720p and they look great, however I dont think there is that much of a difference. Id stick with your component connections.

please, please explain to us how you think this reaction is stupid? i prefer our gov. and police to think everything is bomb first than have anything happen. its the post 9/11 world and i sure dont want to relive another day like that again... not everyone is in the know on tv shows or things like that. I would have to agree with you on this one, especially since the lightboards were pictures of a Mooninite giving the middle finger. Thats a little agreessive and its normal for police to percieve that as a bomb, especially because of the exposed wires and batteries behind the lightboard. However I think maybe there may be a little bit of an overreaction after the fact..

Eh, Wish I could help you. I haven't run into that problem with my TWC/Brighthouse modem, and Ive had it over 6 years. I was hoping you would have said a different service provider... One I actually work for and could help investigate your problem further lol.
-
^What type of modem/service provider?

^^You're welcome! I had to order the adapter and it should be here in 1 to 2 business days.. I couldnt find one anywhere around here! Im thinking there really wont be much of a difference because the DVD playback in the 360 is killer quality anyways... But if it really does upconvert from 480p to 720p there should be a noticable jump in quality. Hopefully with the adapter I will be able to watch HD movies on the 1080p setting also.. Im thinking there will probably be no diference as my TVs light engine supposedly upconverts 1080i to p anyways.

Those are 2 major letdowns about Plasmas... Burn in on LCDs are less of an issue than Plasma, but both are still more prone to it than the RP sets (which in some cases can cost significantly less). Now, about 're-gassing' or recharging a plasma dislplay, thats unfortunately a myth and Ive overheard that being used as a selling point over LCD and RP in stores. The only solution is to replace the unit.
-
Its true that you cannot upconvert unless you are using a VGA cable, Still, dvds in my 360 look better than in my standalone Pioneer DVD player through component. I have the HD-DVD player also, and it doesnt look like it upconverts regular DVDs if you have the xbox running through component even if it says it does (unless I missed an update or something). If I put a regular DVD in the HD drive, it sets my TVs resolution to 480i automatically and the movie doesn't look any different than the regular Xbox360 DVD player which also sets my display resolution to 480i automatically. I bought the VGA cable and I am going to pick up a VGA/DVI adapter today. I will see if there is a difference in resolution and playback through either player and let you know. I will also see if I am able to access the 1080p resolution through this type of connection, my TV doesn't accept it through component for whatever reason. Congrats on your new TV purchase!

LCDs definately last longer to plasma.. LCDs are also less sucseptible to burn in. I definately am not sold on the Plasma and LCD sets yet. They do have reportedly the brightest picture and widest viewing angle of all the technologies, however once they have reached the end of their 30,000 hour lifespan (4 to 6 years depending on use) You really have no choice but to toss the TV and get a new one. I do see that there are some Plasmas out there now made by Panasonic and Pioneer that claim 60,000 hours, but they are pretty pricey still. At least with the rear projection sets, the lifespan is tied to the bulb, which can be replaced. I would say, if you are shopping around and want something thin to mount on your wall, get an LCD. Otherwise for the money, you are better off getting one of the rear projection LCD, LCoS, D-ILA or DLP sets.

It really is a letdown that I cannot watch the DLP sets because all the ones I have seen really have an amazing picture. However my curse turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I returned the Mitsu and picked up the JVC 56" 1080p D-ILA, which is a world of difference! The level of detail blows the Mitsu out of the water. I actually did alot of research on AVS forum and I agree with Dave! If you are looking to buy a new TV, do your research there. You will find a plethora of information on whatever set you are looking to buy. Now if the 360 could only find some way to output at 1080p so I can put my HD-DVD player to good use... -Imhotep

Just bought a 57" DLP Mitsubishi 1080p HDTV. Its very very nice, but its going back. I have discovered I see a rainbow effect (known issue with DLPs and a small percentage of people), and its giving me a migrane. Probably this weekend we will exchange it for either the Sony or JVC 1080p HDTV which are both great sets.
