Louise replied to californiascreamer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think people laid into you (Axman) partly, like Tom says, if you make statements that make no sense, then you pretty much leave yourself wide open for it. And also, it's all about differences of opinions. VekomaFanboy or somebody said earlier "an SLC will NEVER EVER be better than Nemesis, even I know that", but hey, if somebody prefers an SLC to Nemesis... Good for them! Sure, they'll get a few funny looks for it, but as long as they aren't being ridiculous and saying "Nemesis is shit" just to be annoying, they're more than entitled to their opinion. For me, I compare things on a ride to ride basis. I could care less who built Infusion, if I like it, I'll rate it accordingly, and if I don't, I won't. I'd much rather ride Kumali than Nemesis Inferno, for example, so there's one Vekoma over B&M example. B&M do have a better *reputation*, but its to each their own. -
Stupid Jow, I'm now craving pasta, sausage, and mozzarella at quarter to three in the morning. Jow, I too am sad at the lack of carnage involved in the preparation of this meal. But relieved that it was cooking and not sunbathing. Imagine that...

The only people qualified to make such sweeping statements as that at the start of your last paragraph are those who have ridden EVERY B&M and EVERY Vekoma in the world. And to be fair, to make a truly objective comparion they would have to have ridden them all within, let's say at most, a year. Generalisations like that make no sense. It doesn't surprise me, having seen some of the media coverage, to read the kind of comments Will posted on the last page. A lot of the GP *do* have seriously short-term memories. They rode Nemesis last year, they loved it. They rode Infusion this year, and think it's better than what they remember Nemesis to be. Of course, in their opinion, maybe it IS better than Nemesis, which is fine, but I think if most people could ride them one after the other Nemesis would likely win out. I'll reserve judgement until I ride it next month, but even if I like it, I'm not sure I like it being there, if that makes sense. Many here know I'm not exactly a Blackpool fan, but I do recognise the charm of the park in a fairly major way, and as somebody commented earlier, all the other coasters have some unique or historical value to them. This just seems... Odd. It doesn't fit in at all, in my view. But then, I guess the same could've been said for Big One when that was put in, so... I'll get used to it. Yeah..you make a good point Lou. But from what I recall..when I was there. The only thing standing where Infusion is now was a run down Log Flume? I mean...who misses the log flume?? BPPB threw something more thrilling in its place. Something to deliever more thrills to people. Im glad they did what they did...it only makes the park look THAT much cooler. They pack family fun in such a tight space. -Ryan I didn't mean "I don't like it being THERE", meaning, where it is in the park. I meant that I don't see the coaster as "fitting in" at BPB, regardless of whereabouts on the premises they put it. It'll be a big success for them, and good for them, at the end of the day, as much as we might like to pretend otherwise, the amusement industry is about making money. But an SLC, to me, just doesn't feel right in Blackpool. Imagine how odd it would be to take something like Big Dipper and plonk it in the vicinity of Air and Nemesis at Alton... That's almost how I see it. But yes, you're right, to 90% of the park's visitors, including a bunch of enthusiasts, I'm sure, it fits in perfectly and just makes the park all that much more appealing. They're expanding their audience and adding bigger thrills, and good for them! -

True true, I just wasn't sure if you were pointing out that my post was basically a combination of everybody else's previous ones. I'm curious as to how many of the GP who are giving this thing rave reviews rode it as Traumatizer and don't know it. Wonder if they liked it there or not... -

Photo TR: Mother's Day at Dollywood
Louise replied to BeemerBoy's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
GREAT trip report Scott, thanks for posting!! I always love seeing Dollywood pics, it's one of the US parks I most long to get to, especially now they have that Eurofighter, considering how in love I am with Oakwood's over here. Some nice non-blurry shots there. -
Wait, I have a complaint: No Matt pictures?!?!
-
So glad you posted, Matt, thanks!! Nice pics! Cameron's hair is different from when I last saw him and I would comment that he looks hot except that I am COMPLETELY blindsided by Melanie's new 'do... OMG I LOVE it!!! Looks absolutely stunning!! I don't believe I've ever noticed shots of the random theming (eg concrete tigers) before. That combined with IB's rides-on-top-of-rides quality certainly warrants its comparisons with Blackpool.

Can I please have mine changed to: "I love it when people COMPLETELY miss the point."

Awesome TR Paul!!! PKD has always intrigued me greatly and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because anywhere with an Eiffel Tower is a place I love?! D.C. looks amazing, can't wait to get there someday. Glad you had a lot of fun, even if I do think you're insane for doing all that driving! Thanks for sharing! -

Hi Louise, Glad you liked the TR. I'm afraid to say I chickened out of Huraken Condor........I'm terrible for heights, and I've stopped doing drop tower rides after a bad experience in Southport. Ended up just taking shots of it instead. Yeah, you will have to try and get some pictures with Betty, also she had a China Man with her all the time. She kept on doing funny poses. At Southport?! I remember Southport's being pretty meh, but then I can totally understand you being nervy of heights. I was just curious if you rode Condor because I'm a total sucker for a good drop tower. It's like Apocalypse too, right, in that you can stand or sit? I think? Anyway, yes, I will TOTALLY be trying to get a picture with Miss Boop, just hoping those eyes won't freak me out as much in person. -
Random PTR: Mother's Day Fishing Trip.
Louise replied to 65skylark's topic in Random, Random, Random
^ Sandi, the resemblance between you and your mother is amazing! Glad you guys all had fun! I can't believe I opened this thread even with the "fish heads and guts" warning, blach. That's one of a few things I'm girly about, there's no way I want to be near any of that stuff. Fishing itself I enjoy though! And the views of the water and mountain are just beautiful. I think I almost wet myself when I saw that building! -

^ The pictures turned out GREAT, good quality, and I really enjoyed the TR, thanks for posting! This is one of the parks I'm most looking forward to on the TPR trip as there really does seem to be a good assortment of stuff. Oh, and I LOVE Betty Boop, but she looks really creepy there! I'll be totally frightened of her if we see her. Did you ride Hurakan Condor?? Dragon Khan and Furious Baco (which by the way might be tied with Thunder Dolphin for my favourite coaster name ever) look fab, can't wait! -
World's Highest SWING!!! Could you handle this?
Louise replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
AWESOME, I would so be loving that. Might be one of very very few things that make me nervous, but I'd totally do it. I love swings! -
Is anybodys home park their favorite?
Louise replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Just because you're being dramatic and are pissed off at them for actually trying to make money (because of course, that isn't the whole point of the industry AT ALL), doesn't mean they are no longer your home park. Your home park is your home park, regardless of your opinion of it. That's the whole point of the discussion. -

Is anybodys home park their favorite?
Louise replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd guess that technically Gulliver's Warrington and Camelot are my closest parks, but I consider Alton Towers to be my real home park as it's the only park I visit on a regular basis. BPB is actually about the same distance away, but I hate Blackpool so much that I only tend to go when kidnapped. Alton is certainly *one* of my favourite parks, but I'd say there are a few with equal love: I ADORED Liseberg last summer, and there are several Florida parks that I have a huge soft spot for: EPCOT, Sea World, BGT, and IOA. -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Louise replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know if this was the incident Robb was referring to but I'm sure there was something years back (maybe even a decade) where a young girl died on Kumba, but I'm pretty sure it was a medical condition. I want to say her MOTHER even got blamed because she drank during her pregnancy or something, though I may be getting that confused with a different incident. Boredom + insomnia + morbid curiosity sometimes causes me to read about this stuff, I think I actually do absorb things occasionally!
