This weekend was a real eye opener for me. I realized a relationship that can never be, and much more which I do not want to go into detail. She's a tease- that's all I have to say about her now. Still a good friend, but just how she lied to me is what upsets me the most.

Disturbed's 4th Album - Indestructible
Goliath513 replied to Vekoma Fan Boy's topic in Random, Random, Random
Well my brother bought the CD today and I'm listening to it right now. Currently listening to "Deciever". If the album keeps up like this, I think it will be great! -
Oh, and Tony Hawk's Big Spin too...

Roller Coaster Music
Goliath513 replied to spacemtfan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "Sandstorm" by Darude yet. I've listened to it while driving go-karts and I can only imagine how awesome it would be to hear it on a roller coaster! I'm really disappointed they didn't choose that song, or any other DragonForce track for that matter. Would have been much as one song playing the whole way through instead of changing every 30 seconds. Win! -

Sean, Kelly, Eric, Ryan- It was awesome meeting up with you all for Coasters After Dark. Too bad you were still working Ryan. Tony Hawk's Big Spin was great and is a nice solid addition to the park! Adam- Too bad we didn't met up for the night time riding. My pictures along with my ride review, along with R.C.'s pictures and ride review can be found in my opening day photo TR thread here. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43858

If you owned your home park (s)...
Goliath513 replied to Tanks4me05's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom *Demolish the old stadium on Lake Chabot which is no longer used and replace it with a Maverick/Storm Runner style coaster themed to Gotham City. The picture below shows just how much room they would have. Although they probably wouldn't be able to build much of the coaster on the actual lake (if any) this still provides a lot of room for a coaster. It's much bigger when you see it in person. This was obviously taken before this area turned into its current state. It's a shame to see the are abandoned like it is today. The next, are the choices for Kong. Option A: Repaint it! It desperately needs it now that everything else in the park is all fresh and shiny looking. Dark red track with yellow supports (like Thunderhawk at Michigan's Adventure) would look great. Also, get the new SLC trains like on Great Nor Easter Option B: (My preference) Tear down the thing! It is brutally painful, low capacity now that it only runs one train, and it looks terrible. There are paint chips all over the queue and station area which have fallen off the track. A replacement? Anything will do as long as it's not a Wiggle's World. A B&M invert themed to the sea would fit in well with the rest of the park. In fact, almost anything could go there and make for a better replacement. Remove the old 4D theater. It has held everything from Dinosphere, Stargate, 7th Portal, and that Holiday in the Park special. None of those were that good. The inside is pretty much a run down backlot with seats that hardly move to the show. This attraction is closed for the 2008 season, so it would be a good idea to remove it. Afterall, no ride is better than a closed ride to the GP because no ride (and work going on in the area) gives them something to look forward to and a reason to come back to the park in the future. Option A: The land it sits on would make good use for the Dark Knight coaster from SFNE. They could theme it to a roller coaster version of Knott's late Kingdom of the Dinosaurs. With theming, and in a building like the current attraction, the GP would never realize how similar it is to Tony Hawk's Big Spin. Afterall, remember that rumor that SFDK came really close to getting TDK instead of Tony Hawk, so this would make a good replacement. Option B: My friend and I both agree that a Vekoma mine train would go nicely up on the hill. They could use the queue area for the 4d theater for it. The lift would cross over the pathway that leads up to Shouka Stadium. They could spare the trees in that nicely shaded and landscaped area by having the lift go over the path, a turn around helix on the hill that is next to the dolphin stadium, then go back over the path right next to the lift and continue the rest of the ride in the old 4D theater location. This would turn the area into something like the Rapids Camp Crossing area at SFMM where Jet Stream and Ninja occupy a heavily wooded section of the park and fit right in. The red is the Kong area, and the yellow is the 4D stadium and queue. The last of the wild ideas is to remove Monsoon Falls and replace that with something more modern. With SFGAm and SFGAdv having removed theirs, it seems only reasonable that more of these rides would be on the chopping list for Six Flags parks. An aqua trax would be a great replacement since the only other water ride in the park is White Water Safari (rapids). This idea is in the "maybe" category. Quite a good size piece of land here. Other things I would do. * Turn on a more intense cycle for Voodoo (top spin). One flip is not enough. If it were any tamer, it could go in Looney Tunes Seaport as a children's ride. * Add more high thrill flats. The park has more than enough family flats. Voodoo and Tasmanian Devil aren't enough. An S&S Sky Swatter and S&S Space Shot (tower) would both go great near the front of the park over by Roar. There are plenty of other places where they would fit in nicely too. * No more kids areas! Three is enough. -

Best and Worst Log Flumes
Goliath513 replied to gldude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have never been on any actual bad log flumes. There just are those which are more boring than others. The best one I have been on is the Timber Mountain Log Ride at Knott's, and the least exciting being Jet Stream at SFMM. It's always sad when a park removes a log flume because they are such great classic rides to theme parks. The exception to this is when they are removed to make way for a world class roller coaster like White Water Landing was for Maverick. -

Nice pictures. I'm glad to see the park doesn't shut down when it rains. About the lack of airtime on Tony Hawk? Those restraints weren't tight on me at all, so I got great ejector air right as the car hit the brake-run. I guess it all depends how far they push them down. -
My friend R.C. and I were at the park yesterday for opening day and for Coasters After Dark. Let me just say, that I was quite impressed with the new ride. Unlike Sierra Sidewinder at Knott's which I rode earlier this year, Tony Hawk is actually a fun ride. Before I go to the ride review, I just want to say that I believe this is a nice solid addition to the the park. They did a good job at redoing the old Zonga plaza instead of just slapping the ride on the concrete pad. I was surprised how fast they completed the area considering I was there on Sunday the 18th, and the paths had not yet been poured. The entrance to the queue is hard to find and is quite confusing. They had a park employee directing guests to the entrance. The flash pass lane being right between he entrance and exit made it confusing for the guests. They did a good job at making use of what's left of Zonga's queue and using the old loading platform as a queue building with TVs and other Tony Hawk related media. The station is lightly themed, but I suppose it fits the whole skating theme. The cars are a bit cramped for tall people like me, but they are still comfortable. When the ride gets going, it goes up the lift hill very fast. The first drop get the car going quite fast before back up to the signature mouse coaster turn arounds. In these, the cars pick up spinning as they go around the turns. Depending on how much spinning the cars pick up in the beginning, the rest of the ride builds on it. I rode THBS 5 times yesterday and every ride was a much different experience. The first one was very mild spinning and I was a bit disappointed, but later rides proved this to be an amazing ride and great addition to the park. One of the better ride entrances in the park. Zonga's station is now used as the queue building. If Cedar Fair named this, it would be called Backlot Skateboard Coaster. This car spun like crazy! The Tony Hawk/Zonga plaza looks nice. The end of the ride offers great ejector airtime! They were right when they said every ride is different. Tony Hawk had the longest lines of the day. Except between the changing of shifts, operations were smooth. New angle of Roar and V2 from the queue. This part of the ride is awesome! No more pictures of Tony Hawk. The park was PACKED yesterday. Some obligatory credit whoring during Coasters After Dark. Medusa is still as great as ever! Next up, we decided to ride the Vekoma death machine because there was no wait. What were we thinking... Please tear this down and replace it with a good ride. The only night shot because my camera sucks at shots in darkness. Sorry for the lack of night time pictures. We later met up with Eric (Zonga), who we had seen throughout the day, after he got off work and joined him and several of his friends for some night rides on Tony Hawk. Overall, Coasters After Dark was a success.

Horrible Park Operations
Goliath513 replied to pgathriller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
During Coasters After Dark last night at SFDK, no food places were open. My friend and I wanted dinner, only to find that all the places had shut down before 6. Now normally, I'm not too thrilled about buying overpriced amusement park food, but when the only options for dinner are funnel cakes, and churros, this may irritate you (unless you happen to be a sugar hungry ACEr). Now I know it cuts down on costs to have them closed down when the park is not very full, but if they had at least left Johnny Rockets open, the park could have made so much money last night. What upsets me even more, is that all the midway games were open. Does the park really think that people who come for Coasters After Dark are there to play games? There's a reason why they have the word "coasters" in the name. It's as if the park is turning down potential income. Instead of my money going to the park, it went to my local In-N-Out when I got back home around 11:30pm last night. One last note, when we were looking for an open food place which sold real hot food, we met up with our friend who works in management in the park. He told us that many others had complained about not being able to eat dinner in the park because everything was closed. The reason for this? Apparently at coasters after dark last year, attendance was much lower than this year and it was not profitable to have food places open. Lets pray that SFDK gets it right next year. Another thing that pissed me off (but not nearly as much as the whole food fiasco) is the one-train operation on Kong and Roar this whole season. I have been to the park three times now this year and I don't understand why they can't run 2 trains. The wait times were horrible for both these rides because of it. -

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Updates

I was at the park yesterday with my friend, so I didn't have my camera, nor did I go around to get updates. But I did get several pics from Kong and Roar's queues with my phone. Failed shot of the bathroom Tony Hawk was testing. I will be back for opening on Friday! Nice penguins... -
Random Photo TR: New Orleans, July 2007
Goliath513 replied to coasterdude5's topic in Random, Random, Random
Those are quite some powerful photos. One of my best friends lives in in Marrero (just south of New Orleans) and when she was out visiting me this weekend, we and are parents had quite a conversation about the events of Katrina, and the aftermath of the lives of those who she knows down there. One of the trees in their yard fell on their house and destroyed the roof. Fortunately it landed on the utilities box which took most of the blow from the house itself. It was very emotional to hear about from people who lived there and experienced it first hand. In fact, just last night a new episode of Extreme Home Makeover aired in which her father is one of the volunteers in rebuilding a house for a family in New Orleans. I also have a friend who lives in Abita Springs who was also hit pretty hard. They have over 50 acres of property with trees that were destroyed by the hurricane and left quite a mess. -
I just had my first kiss last night at 9:08pm with my beautiful prom date after an amazing weekend. It was pretty brief, but it was still romantic. She's not really a girlfriend because she lives out of state. It was great! I couldn't have had it with a better girl! My last kiss was this morning when saying goodbye to her before she left for the airport. It's sad that she's gone home now.

Photo TR- Playland in Vancouver
Goliath513 replied to DCody's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That sounds just like the 50 year old "Wild Chipmunk" at Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver. That entire ride is literally built on grass with almost no solid foundation. Every time I ride it I'm surprised the whole thing doesn't just collapse. +180 points for the Final Destination reference! It's almost scary how similar this park is to Lakeside. They both have the classic woodies, wild mouse of death, ghetto fair rides in a permanent location, that erie feeling throughout the park, the single S&S tower, and everything in between. Now all Lakeside needs is a Vekoma death machine! Sorry to go back and forth between parks, but as a FD fan the connection is almost too much for me to handle. Back to Playland now... Looks like a great park in the day too. Nice PTR and I agree with what Robb said about the captions. They are awesome. Too bad my family and I didn't have an extra day to go here when we were in Vancouver a few summers ago. -

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Updates
Goliath513 replied to Zonga's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I went to the park today to get my 2008 season pass processed, so here are some pictures of the new ride. Medusa has a new friend. Station Behind this tangle of track are the trains still in their shrink-wrap. Could this be a new signature shot? Look at the bottom of this picture and you will see this is indeed a parking lot coaster. In fact, every major coaster at SFDK with the exception of Boomerang is a parking lot coaster. They just did a good job at hiding it unlike a certain Six Flags park down south. Now I know what you're thinking, there is still plenty of old parking lot underneath Medusa, but at least they themed the station and queue. This will be more than just credit #62 for me. View from Roar's queue. Obviously, much work has been done in the Tony Hawk area. I will be back on Friday May 23 for the opening of the new coaster!
