  1. Just an update from the official site confiming what should (hopefully) be some good themeing for the queue line, and also saying of some of the original props from the movies will be used.
  2. No there's nothing concrete yet, it is all just rumour from TowersTimes.co.uk but IMO its fairly likely to be true, especially since the Corkscrew is going in November. It may turn out to be a family attraction, but I'm personally hoping for something a little better than that. They also report that the groundwork is due to start next year, meaning about 18 months of construction start to finish. In the meantime we can look forward (or otherwise) to Saw.
  3. ^Alton's new ride is codenamed SW6, or Secret Weapon 6 if you like.
  4. I'm voting for Nazi on Gwazi. Oh how I lol'd.
  5. MY OFFICIAL ENTRY. 'Nuff said. For those preferring the real name, subsitite the duck for a Trout on X:No Way Out =]
  6. Has it even been confirmed that there will be an age restriction? Obviously the ride will have a strong horror theme, but so do the London Dungeons, and Madame Tussauds Chamber of Horrors. I think PART of the Chamber has an age restriction of 12, however the Dungeon does not have an age restriction at all except stating the child must be accompanied by an adult, therefore its at the adults discretion. This leads me to think there is no legal reason kids aren't allowed in there. In addition to the height restriction keeping out these younger children, I would assume that there will just be many signs stating that the ride has a horror theme which may be unsitable for people of a nervous disposition etc. I really don't think the staff will be ID'ing everyone who looks under 15 (or whichever age you think the minimum might be). I'd also assume where the horror theme will be strong, its not going to be anywhere near as brutal as the Saw films, just a lot more suggestive, such as shown in the photos on the ride website.
  7. I actually thought a while ago how cool it would be if they based it on something like Saw, since the original renderings were and old saw mill. Especially after last months trailer with the blood and all that. I am a fan of the movies, I'm not completely sure about basing a ride on them but if they do a great job on the theming/effects I think it could turn out really well. When I first heard the ride was going to be a eurofighter I wasn't really that excitied by it, but now I really can't wait to see how it turns out.
  8. It really depends on the legal stance, should they introduce this minimum age limit. Do attractions like this receive minimum age limits that are legally enforcable in the UK? I saw a kid who was about 6 walking through the chamber of horrors in Madame Tussauds on Saturday. And whats the recommended minimum age for the dungeons? The park could do some form of ID check, although its a little unfair to expect all 15 year olds to have ID. Its more likely the case that it would just have warning signs that it may be unsuitable for under 12's or something like that, since I'd guess not that many 11 year olds go to the park anyway without parental supervision. Besides which, if there's no legal requirement to enforce the age it isnt that much of an issue.
  9. Was at Thorpe Park today, will post a mini PTR soon. Just thought I would upload a photo of construction so far. As far as the horror theme goes looking at the teaser videos, I'm really looking forward to the ride. I think the comment about opening the curtains and revealing the horror may mean that a decent chunk of information gets released next month. Just have to wait and see. Out of curiosity, I just looked to see what day March 13th 2009 is (Stealth opened on March 15th), and it just happens to be a Friday. Dont know if its been mentioned before. Friday 13th March for opening? All of this track will be in the main station building, nice little drop out of the station too =]
  10. About 8 years. I used to go to Alton Towers most years with my parents, until my mid teens. I remember going for my 18th birthday and then I basically stopped riding coasters until I was 26. I did a project on coasters for uni, and after that I simply HAD to get back into it, so much so I took a trip to Thorpe Park by myself whilst my wife was doing some training course and we were in London.
  11. Fantastic trip report, thanks for sharing! I can't believe just how big some of those travelling rides are.
  12. I really don't think ebay would be where someone who wanted this sort of thing would look for it Good luck though.
  13. That Lance thing was totally fake. It didnt even look real when I saw it on TV.
  14. Corkscrew at AT was my first ever 'big' coaster, so it does hold a bit of nostalgia for me. However, I am also all for progress, and if a ride has come to the end of its life, which I believe that one has, I'd sooner see a new attraction that will help bring in visitors for years to come.
  15. It does, but the beauty of Nemesis is that its sort of supposed to look like that. I guess it helps when you look at other coasters its easy to tell just how faded they are and they looks pretty bad, but Nemesis just looks the way its meant to! And thanks for all the positive comments, always nice to know people enjoy reading the reports other people take the time to do.
  16. Yeah the line for the first part of the day was 1 hour, the longest in the park. I have only been on Rita once, I wasn't all that impressed, probably since the launch just isn't as intense as Stealth. Plus I remember the restrains bashing my neck, it wasn't very nice! Possibly, its the best suggestion I have heard so I'll go with that
  17. Okay I can't be bothered to go into any detail and I doubt anyone will read it anyway so on with the photos! Note to mods: I only just noticed the 150k limit on photos and its taken me an hour to do the report! Some pics are a bit over hope this is ok, sorry I'll finish off with some random twisty goodness! Thanks for reading. See? The 'blood' rivers were working nicely. And another view. Here it is with a train. Can I say hardon on this website? This is so my favourite bit of Nemesis. It was still fun second time around. Especially in the back this time. We hit Air again. Bad photo of the themed rockin' tug. I think. I'm not that much of an expert. It was nearing the last hour, so we went back over for more Air and Nemesis. Here's the re-themed teacups to fit in with the Mutiny Bay area and battle galleons. There they are! They so came dressed for the occasion. First Krishna's at Thorpe Park, now men in suits at Alton Towers. Splashdown! Its great how the logs on the log flume are baths. All about sponsorship but still. I'm stalking these guys in shirts and ties. The previous photo was the sign because the station is SO boring. Pizza hut for lunch, then time to get wet! I think I do a good impression. We quite enjoyed this one, it had a fairly long line at 25 mins. The people just in front of us as we entered hopped the fence to get in the single rider line. We beat them into the station. The future of queue line entertainment. Funny little pinball thingys. It's just plain...fun! Next up Spinball Whizzer. I hadn't been on one of these before. Not today it isn't. The Towers. My only moan about Alton is that its SO spread out. But thats what the skyride is for I guess. Overview again with the Towers in the background. You can shoot at people without having to ride. We walked by later in the day and there was a woman in a boat yelling at someone to stop getting them wet. She was pretty angry. It's a water ride idiot! Der der....der der...you get the idea. It's really well done, and you get VERY wet. We stayed away from it though. We had a look at the new Battle Galleons bit. More SW4 branding on the top of the station entrance. I really like the ride, I haven't been on any of the others so I guess I'm not spoiled yet. Longest line of the day at 45 minutes. We only rode it once because of this. Everything else we rode was 25 mins or less. One for the lift hill enthusiasts. We got in line shortly after. I know that SW4 means Secret Weapon 4, the ride's codename, but what does QLB 001 mean? I somehow managed to make this whole area look really slanted. My plan of getting a train diving was dashed as it broke down just as we got there. Next up, Oblivion. Its wasn't a complete waste, as I got this (what I would consider quite cool) photo of Rita. For old time's sakes, we decided to ride the Corkscrew. Oh yes. Also here you can see more black track. I was going to, but there was a 40 minute wait, and about 30 people in the single rider line, so I skipped it. You can see here how higher parts of the track are painted black, to help stop visibility through the trees. And rollercoasters! Charlie didn't want to go on Rita. And all you can really see is trees. More really nice gardens... Really nice gardens... There are old buildings.... Wait what? I thought we were in a theme park? Charlie does her favourite pose by the big random Nemesis thingy. I always thought it was a gun but the front makes it look like a drill or something. It started to rain moderately just as we took our front seats on Nemesis. Rain in the eyeball sucks. Could be worse, we could be at Cedar Point. They gave a warning that the ride would remain open but could be uncomfortable. What's this? No no not the well themed Top Spin, in the bottom right. It's hardly a pretzel but it'll have to do. I still find it fun. Next stop Air. Having been on Tatsu, Air is a bit tame, but it was more forceful than I remember. The back row gets my vote. Loopy goodness. Turnaround before the loop. First stop? Nemesis of course. Easily the best coaster in the park, and the one we went on the most. Lovely view to look at, although there was no nun on a piano awaiting us. Light crowds at the cordon waiting to be let in. Last time I went they just opened the gates at 9.30 and let everyone in. We had to wait till 10. Not as exciting as the phonebox one. The toilets come complete with humming, whistling and farting sounds. It was an odd experience. The first thing I noticed through the gate? Funky toilet doors! Not only does it look like a phonebox, it looks like a row of phoneboxes, with authentic looking reflections included! Obligatory room shot. We stayed at the Chained Oak B&B, it was pretty nice, near the chained oak which Hex is based on. We didn't see it though.
  18. I was surprised that it was written by a 17 year old, as others have said is it a serious paper? Or just a quick assignment? Mainly the let down was the way it was written, bad grammar, it just didn't flow very well. I'm going with E. Apparantely you can't get an E so I'll upgrade to a D. I guess English and American grades are different.
  19. How have you not been arrested yet? Personally I think #12 but I'm not so sure about the face, but then let's face it thats not what I was looking at. #4 in a close second.
  20. More great photos from AT, glad you guys had a good time! Thats a well positioned upright there shielding the 'hot chick'. I suppose if you're into feet it might work for you, but otherwise....no. I'm heading there this Friday, hopefully light crowds and lots of rides to be had.
  21. I live with my wife. I lived with my parents until I was 21, moved into a rented apartment with 3 other people (including my now wife) for 6 months, then bought a place and moved in with my wife after that.
  22. I have only been on Scream, and while I do think the whole floorless thing is a bit of a gimmick, it does works really well at the front like most have said. I didn't notice it so much at the back, however I love the design as its SO comfortable. I'm 6'4 and do get annoyed trying to squeeze into certain sit down trains. A B&M invert is by far the most comfortable of the lot, and this is the next best thing. It's also a great way of selling the ride to the GP. The more visitors the better.
  23. ^^^I'm also very sorry to hear about the accident. At the same time I also have to agree with ^&^^, I don't see alcohol as a bad thing, or at least when the people who drink it are responsible. It sucks about your friend and her boyfriend, but at the same time they both made bad choices under the influence of alcohol/drugs. My view is that it is terrible what happened, but it would have been a lot worse if someone else had been killed instead, a completely innocent bystander. Hopefully reading about the accident may one day help other people to think before they drink and drive, or get into a car with someone who is about to. It might just save their life.
  24. Ok so I read that quickly and had a problem with the part that says "a mule ride, rape". I've read it again now and it makes more sense, but I got worried for a minute there Mike Keep em coming!
