2015 Theme Park Attendance Report
Garet replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Do they research outside events when they give reasons or just look at things like forecasts? Just curious because I was surprised to see no mention of the MER's outbreak when they were talking about the down year. I feel that would be the main effect for Korean parks this year as there was mass panic over the MER's outbreak that spread quite rapidly in Everland's and Lotte World's area that had schools shut down for almost a month (in my area that wasn't too far from one of the hospitals) and a lot of people petrified of any big public areas for over 2 months during the busy late spring season as well as reducing the amount of foreign visitors especially Chinese tourists as well. It was a little silly since all the spreads happened in hospitals but there was a lot of mis-information and hysteria about where it was. I saw mothers crying and yelling when the school was opened and had only 5 kids out of 30 in the early days before they shut. Even when schools reopened it took a while after that for things to pick up again. The parks really were ghost towns for a while. Also, for most of my time in Korea, my quietest trips have been the summer season, it's usually pretty quiet for the parks compared to spring and fall since most people hit the water parks due to heat and water parks don't have that long a operating season (the water park just opened running 3 slides right now and hasn't fully opened yet) they even offer deals to get people into Everland for free in the evening or to go there for "waiting" because the water park is at capacity. -
Those pneumatic towers still rely on the cables to somehow connect the cars to the pneumatic system. ARM/Larson towers use large permanent magnets on the cars. So unless something wonky happens to how physics works, they'll always come to a slow crawl before reaching the ground. I know Acrophobia uses magnets as brakes, so I imagine Intamin uses magnets on other drop towers as well. Yes, all Intamin gen 2 and up towers use magnetic brake except for Phantasialand's and the indoors one at Lotte World. Lotte World's tower is outside now, but putting it near the bigger gyro drop (sadly now with scream shields) does make it very overshadowed and although it is mainly pneumatic it actually has magnetic brakes at the bottom and top in case of emergencies but you are correct in that it doesn't really use them as its main brakes.

Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread

Am I the only one who kind of enjoyed cinemagique? It was cheesy but I quite liked the way they did it overall, although they seem to keep tinkering with it to "update it" with more current movies and it seems to make even less sense what shows up where each time and they were stretching with a few on the original. -

As funny as that was, I got most of my laughs from the comments section. -
^ I haven't had to replace any of mine and I don't exactly treat it nicely either. Thank god there are plenty of shops here in Korea. My BTTF Uniqlo shirt gets worn pretty often out of some other movie ones that I tend to end up using for my kindergarten job where it gets tugged and pulled on and covered in all sorts and I haven't replaced any yet. My cheapish hoodies and jackets that I use almost daily for dog walks during late fall- early spring have outlived a lot more expensive ones as well.

This is either going to be amazing or result in a lot of ride delays due to vomit clean-up: Source -

Ride sign for Hurricane at Everland and Championship Rodeo pictures. Also Big Wheel is permanently retired, it has a memorial out front and they just use it as a giant night light. K-Pop Hologram was redesigned and given a new facade, name and new show if that counts as closed. House of Oz was removed after the accident and replaced with a custom made kids rope course forEverland (as opposed to Oz which could have been on a travelling carnival) so that's definitely closed and Madagascar Live! has also left the park. Global Village has been torn down to be replaced by something else but they could just be replacing the whole system to make Global Village 2.0. Lotte World: Ride sign for Pirate, it's name is the Conquistador. What with this and me talking to myself in the Everland thread trying to keep the news up to date, I should really visit the title fairy over my Korean park OCD. -
But you are also getting another whole theme park for $25 extra...so the whole train ride wouldn't really be at least $25 extra Yea but for most multi-gate parks, a lot of people, especially ones who aren't local and for them a once in a lifetime trip, are probably going to spend a least a full day in each park. So if you are planning on doing both parks anyway but a hopper is the only way to experience all the attractions in the park (Hogwarts Express) then you're not really getting a whole park out of that deal. More an "opportunity cost" of $25 per person to experience just the Hogwarts Express.

Kind of random but I found an arcade by chance with a working one of these tucked in the corner in Gran Canaria when I visited many years ago and I had to try it out. It was next to the Maspaloma's beach in Playa del Ingles heading towards the sand-dunes. If you hit naked people I think you've gone too far.

I used to love slides like those where you just had a little ring and down you went onto some mini rapids, splash pools and little flumes. Saw a fair few in Spain and Portugal when I was a kid on family vacation or the non ring versions at Center Parcs. Too bad you rarely see new one's like these, most parks that have connecting slides to pools tend to use master blasters these days. I've always wanted to go to Schlitterbahn and I heard Colorado Water World was supposed to have some fantastic rapid rivers.

I clicked the link and this was the one above the AIR incident: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3568998/Mother-suing-leisure-centre-20-000-claiming-lifeguard-told-not-breastfeed-son-pool.html Told me all I needed to know about what kind of things that newspaper is looking for.... -
No jokes in the mega dead thread please. I just opened an email that told me there was a reply to the mega dead celebrity thread and my eyes instantly latched onto the words Keith Richards.

Really liked Civil War but I honestly feel like people citing it as best Marvel movie ever are over-reacting. It was a lot of fun, the 2 and a half hours passed by without me ever thinking the movie was dragging, and I got pretty much what I was expecting and it was definitely worth the price of admission especially the middle act. It seemed a bit more generic than some of the others films but the action was fantastic. It's a top 5 for me for sure but I still honestly think I would pick GotG and Winter Soldier over this. Probably because of my low expectations when I went into GotG and how surprised I was at how much I enjoyed it. After Winter Soldier I was probably going in with way too high expectations to this one. *mild spoilers* I felt kind of a little let down by the big bad's plot, it just felt like one of those plans which falls apart way too much when you pick at the logic and I just felt like the movie played it very safe throughout and with Tony throwing away the suit in IM3 even though we knew Ultron was coming and Hawkeye retiring in that one to come back here, I'm kind of over the we've changed the status quo endings that will just be undone in the next with a passing remark. At least the ending of IM3 was acknowledged in this one.

Some information about Lotte World and Everland
Garet replied to Tim2009's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry for my 5th post in a row but since there isn't a Lotte World discussion page I felt this was probably the best place to put it since most of the discussion has been about magic pass. Lotte World have announced a new premium magic pass. 30,000 won gets you 5 magic passes to be used anytime on the day (the free ones have time limits) or 100,000 gets you unlimited rides for the day. There is a catch however as the 5 pass is limited to only 70 people a day and the unlimited pass is only allocated for 30. No English version up but here's the link: http://www.lotteworld.com/notice/view.asp?cmsCd=CM0051&ntNo=320 -

I'm assuming the footnote at the bottom is talking about the previous announcement: about the new port, moving of Small World etc. -
^I think he means the rumored PS4.5/Neo. I just got a 4K tv so may wait to see what this rumored Neo offers before retiring my 3 (I still have a huge back-log of flash sale games to get through)

THIS!!!!!! I think you've both missed the point. No-one is concentrating on the intensity race or complaining this isn't a mind blowing RMC or an Intamin woodie. I watched the same POV and what I saw is what looks like a fun wooden roller-coaster that would be great for the whole family. The problem is the high height restriction means that it can't really be for the whole family and nothing in that POV says to me that high a restriction is needed. If it was something along the lines of Grizzly Mine Cars at HKDL or Firechaser Express with a lower height restriction with an accompanying adult to fill the family ride gap or even this exact ride from a company who could provide a lower height restriction then it would have been a much better fit.

We've got quite a few strange options in Korea I've tried the strawberry pizza here in Korea and quite a few weird options elsewhere, saw blueberry pizza recently at a chain "Italian" (http://www.solemio.or.kr/bbs/board.php?bo_table=m33). The cheap chain pizzeria near my house has a white cream spaghetti pizza for $8 and I quite like it. (http://pizzaschool.net/menu/%EA%B9%8C%EB%A5%B4%EB%B3%B4%EB%84%A4%ED%94%BC%EC%9E%90/) Ratatouille Pizza was in Mad for Garlic a few years ago, if you're a garlic lover the chain is worth checking out. As you can see from the link above for blueberry pizza, dessert pizzas can be quite popular. The mentioned strawberry pizza from a restaurant in the basement of Gangnam, right next to the Gangnam Style monument. -

I try not to spam up this thread too much but I thought this was kind of funny not to share, and it is a new addition in the park and I like to keep this thread up to date. There is now a mini-simulator with VR headsets, in the building right next to T Express where you can experience.......T Express. I love the lady to the left who has her VR above her eyes. Source I joke but depending on if there's a height to this it'd probably be a) a nice thing for kids to try out who aren't tall enough but want to see what siblings and parents will do or b) good for kids who are tall enough but a bit unsure about riding. They will be alternating the movie to include the Safari Ride (the next attraction down the road from T Express ) but the expensive special tour version as opposed to the free buses and Horror Maze (next door to this building but closed until nearer Halloween) EDIT: Checked the Everland app and it's on the attractions page listed at 120cm, so only 10cm lower than T Express and ironically making the virtual safari a lot higher than the actual Safari Ride which has no restrictions (even Lost Valley is 100cm unaccompanied) -

If this was ever going to be a reality at any Disney park, it'd be Japan. I feel like you could probably have a whole 3rd gate based around Ghibli, although Hayao Miyazaki is way too green to green light it unless you could somehow make it run completely on self-sustaining energy. As much as it's fan art, it's apparently fan art by a guy named John Ramirez who works for Disney both for storyboards and the theme-parks: Article I linked the picture from The guy's instagram page -
I'm sure the casino and some other attractions will pop up but I'm still skeptical on the theme park and water park front, I've seen so many "confirmed proposals" and partnerships that have never come to fruition, a few months ago I shared a "confirmed" project for Disneyland partnered with MGM resorts in Incheon, the Hwaseong government put out cryptic tweets about a park coming and more details which never followed and speaking of Hwaseong, Universal was announced for like the 4th attempt recently.
