Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) Discussion Thread
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks great. I may be the minority here, and this one is amazing, but I never had any issue with the old one or it's size. I think the first time my wife and I ever went to HKDL and saw it in person, we just said the size made it a bit more unique compared to the others. -
Didn't they used to do this for Black Hole at Alton Towers or did you get to ride solo if not in a group? I was very young when I rode that coaster so maybe my memory is wrong but I remember it was two people in a row with one lap bar.

Six Flags [FUN] Corporate Discussion Thread
Garet replied to davidmorton's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I get why enthusiasts make jokes about rides like these or Cedar Point's Pipe Scream that but since my son started riding things I've been a lot more forgiving on the naming. He sees it's called a coaster and that makes him think he's rode a roller-coaster then who am I to correct him. Nah, I'm totally kidding. I'm an enthusiast and obviously correcting people on this takes priority. He rode one of those powered double helix coasters at Seoul Land and was happy to have rode his first roller-coaster. I sat him on my knee and gave him a 15 minute lecture on why it didn't count as a 'credit' and he couldn't tell his friends that he rode a roller-coaster. He cried but lessons were learned and he said he doesn't want to ride roller-coasters anymore so at least he won't make that mistake ever again. -
Disneyland Paris (DLP) Discussion Thread
Garet replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
France has ordered all non essential businesses to close so today will be the last day the park is open before it closes down for the second time. They're taking reservations for a potential reopening during the winter holiday rush and then it seems no matter what the Corona situation is will close for a month after the New Year holiday. -
Six Flags [FUN] Corporate Discussion Thread

They had around 7 million pass holders in the previous year. I can't believe they lost almost half their memberships and season-pass holders. I expected some people would opt out, but with how cheap they usually are and the parks fan-base returning to the open parks I didn't expect the new number to be 3.7. 14% are paused, even if somehow they all un-pause and no one cancels that would still mean a 37% decrease. -

Bit of a random issue and easily worked around by using the main forum so wasn't sure if you wanted it reported but just in case... I've noticed some threads that I posted in, don't show up in the 'content I posted in' activity thread. I thought it might be the date so I changed it from last 365 days to anytime but they still don't show up. Granted the example here is Marineland so I'm probably not missing much skipping over it. -
Everland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^I think Everland might be the biggest park in the world (in terms of attendance) to have closed 0 days during this whole pandemic. Followed by Lotte World with I think a grand total of 2-4 days closure. -
Korea's Unopened Gyro-Swing
Garet replied to Garet's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wasn't sure where to post this but this is the most current topic for Children's Grand Park. Despite the 2014 refurbishment, lots of new rides built, and having one of Korea's newest roller-coasters, the Vekoma Family Suspended, this park has now closed down. I'm not sure when, I'd planned on checking out the park with my son and looking it up was hit by some articles claiming both money disputes between the owners and government and it seems lots of safety issues and cheap construction. https://paxnetnews.com/articles/66271 http://news.khan.co.kr/kh_news/khan_art_view.html?art_id=202010200600005 -
NEWS: Robot Land Incheon gains momentum
Garet replied to jedimaster1227's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It seems the owners of Robot Land and Seoul Land are going to merge. Will be interesting to see if anything comes of this considering Robot Land is Korea's newest park and Seoul Land has basically remained with almost the same rides for the last 20-30 years. https://www.seoulland.co.kr/customer/news_view.asp?idx=1553&page=1 -
Everland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Everland had another confirmed corona case in the park on the 22nd October. Like before with Everland's Starbucks the main focus is on the restaurant visit from 12:44-2:14. I wonder if the parks are required by the government to post these notices, normally the parks news section posts stay forever but all of these and Caribbean Bay's notices of Corona patients seem to get removed as soon as the park can. -
The Official TPR Video Thread!
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry if this is too off-topic but this TPR video got me interested. What happened to this ride? Is it SBNO? Or did it get scrapped? It's a shame there was never another of such a unique ride or that it didn't get relocated. -
I can't remember where, but wasn't there mention that S&S Free-Spins could have different experiences on each side depending on where the magnets are placed? I wonder if they could split the queue lines so the people on the right side of the track hit different magnets than the left side do to give different experiences. Perhaps even an intense side and a less spin heavy side?

So we were at a Korean park last week. Even before corona the parks tend to shut half the rides or operate them on half day shifts on off peak weekdays. I bring this up because the lines I'm talking about here aren't a handful of people, I took my son to a park on Friday and because less rides run, we waited maybe 30-40 minutes for some children's rides in cattle pens. The park has footprints painted in the lines but people just didn't social distance or follow the stickers in any of the lines, you were packed in for 20-40 minutes. And although everyone wore masks people were constantly bringing food into these crammed queue lines and eating. There was also gloves at some Halloween games and hand sanitizers all around the queue lines but some people ignored this and rides weren't wiped from what we could see. Despite all these examples, what Korea does have is a very good track and trace so I can tell you at least 2 positive people have been to Lotte World and 1 in Everland and yet there were 0 transmissions found to have happened in the parks. I hiked a mountain with my wife and we passed over 140 old people mask less in 2 hours. So far more possible contact than people walking around the theme parks in masks and we had less room to maneuver around them than at any theme parks, yet there's been almost no cases of transmissions or clusters there either. You know where it did spread in Korea? A Starbucks. And yet even in that enclosed air-con space the masked employees escaped infection: https://fortune.com/2020/08/25/covid-outbreak-starbucks-seoul-masks-employees/ It seems ridiculous to me that these giant open air spaces, where it is quite hard for it to spread have to remain closed, while so many other places can be open.

Everland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Everland had a confirmed corona patient visit their park. There's a little bit of a worry since the post location mentions Starbucks where people would have been maskless when drinking and it was during a 3 day weekend so the park was very crowded. -

Thanks, for your hard work. Some of the links were still broken but I think it's for a certain time period. We were originally planning to go to Gyeongju World so I checked that one out and the 3 new rides Draken, Klake and Dragon Race were broken although probably not heading that way anymore because my son decided he really wants Seoul Land now because he saw it on YouTube. Tried some random parks elsewhere and all seems good. I think only other random one I spotted as an example was Hyperion at Energylandia. Also, while I was looking at Gyeongju World I noticed this was listed underneath, -

Maybe I missed it but one thing I liked about the old forums notification system was I'd get an email that somene had replied in a thread but it wouldn't email me again until I had opened that thread/caught up. The new forums has get an email every time someone posts or once a week/day for emails and notifications but I can't find an option similar to one email per thread visit like the old ones. -

Will the park index be retired since the forum move broke most of the pictures? Curious before I head out to a Korean park later this week that could use an update. -
I'm wondering if any of the parents have advice for riding with your children, especially young children in terms of both keeping them safe and comfort for yourself. My son is 4, getting closer to 5 and he's suddenly shown an interest in rides and is at an age where he is more willing to test his limits and won't say no until he's tried at least once if he makes the height check.. Outcomes are mostly positive so he wants to try more and one or two where he overstepped and learnt where he's not ready. I'm not sure if it's because I tend to turn my head a lot more to check on him or because I don't sit as straight because even when he has a lap bar I lean over and have a hand on it or him just to be safe but I've been getting a lot more nauseous lately. We rode a pirate ship and it's one bar so I was looking sideways a lot of the ride and once it stopped I got hit by a huge wave of nausea I don't get riding alone. I think it's because my body knows a pirate ship is back and forth but with him my head is tilted more. I've noticed once I hit my 30's that my tolerance dropped quite a bit for certain rides especially more spin heavy rides but it's been getting worse lately with him and I don't want to discourage him from riding. Am I alone in this happening when moving about more on a ride?

I've been getting a complete your profile page that has twitter and Instagram as mandatory, but I don't have either of those things so couldn't leave the page and complete the form. When I loaded up the forums in incognito page and re logged in that way it went away. Edit: It randomly kicked me back to this update page when I went to edit this post with that screenshot and I had to close incognito and re log in to escape it.
