  1. How can you even pretend that it doesn't? Even my 5 year old knows putting racing stripes on things makes them go faster. I mean sure his paint of choice is somehow play-dough but....but... SCIENCE!
  2. Looks like my missed opportunities thread could have some new visitors.

  4. ^Just because it opens doesn't mean the losses become less massive. There are a lot of operating and running costs, staff wages, getting the park ready to open etc involved and if the park isn't confident that an open park with only 15% of attendance is going to have a big impact they might hesitate. Or they'll look at ways to run the park that are less costly. Everland is one of the world's top 20 visited parks and for years now they've run a split shift system in the park on weekdays. One ride in each zone running all day, then each zone has one ride open for a morning shift (10-2), a one hour 'break' then the other ride will open for the evening shift (3-8).
  5. So many years I'd pop up to the station and see this sign was still there and hope... Even though the all Korean sign confirmed it was gone for a 'new attraction' which turned out to be a garden (after a cancelled on-site hotel project). The Small World knock-off had a similar sign of a 'new attraction' and became a garden. My favorite rumor that I hear over the years and pops up now and again on some websites is the pandas are to blame for being too expensive for the lack of new attractions.
  6. They could throw out some random obscure character that no-one has ever heard of and claim it'll be the only ever appearance, and the usual clientele would be tripping over each other to get tickets and bragging rights. I can't talk though because I really wanted to meet Oswald last time I was in Japan even though we were only doing a weekend in Osaka and had no time to get across to Tokyo, although at least that was for myself.
  7. I will never understand the need for parks to advertise 'World's first' on whatever they can. Who is that aimed at? Children will only care that it's Peppa Pig and I don't think any adults, outside theme park bloggers/instagrammers, care about being 'first'. It's like Universal trying to stick 'worlds largest roller-coaster free-fall' or 'first story coaster' on Hagrids. Isn't Harry Potter enough of a selling point? That being said, I'm also curious how strong the I.P. is abroad, I know the Peppa Pig World part of Paulton's Park is very popular among my group of friends with young children in the U.K. who would probably have never gone to Paulton's otherwise, and a lot do take the kids to Orlando for a week or two to Disney when they are young so this park might entice them away from Disney for a day, since most skip Universal if they don't have older children, and also tend to not bother with Legoland either since there's one in the U.K. already they've visited.
  8. I've probably been the most negative one on this board at the Mario Kart ride, but even I'm not going to judge an AR ride until I've rode it. I think it's one of those rides where a POV just can't accurately convey what you are seeing.
  9. We still have one operating in Korea, part of the extreme sports/white water rafting area: http://www.nrcoop.com/experience/scad_diving/
  10. I was moving pictures over to my new computer and I came across these pictures from one of my trips to Japan. I never rode this unique ride and honestly didn't pay it any attention at the time, and recently found out it's been demolished. Looking back I made lots of choices where I've missed out on a ride or park that is no longer an option. I'm wondering, with hindsight, what everyone's biggest missed opportunities/stupid mistakes have been. Mine are: 1) My probably only trip to the Pennsylvania area, and I decided not to experience Knobels, instead opting for a second day at Cedar Point. We hadn't got everything done on the first day and so instead of driving back we got a motel and did a second day there. I didn't think too much on it at the time, and really enjoyed Cedar Point, but I blame Coasterbill's talk of the food and his pierogi map as well as many years of peoples TR's has made me really regret this. 2) The above pictured ride. It didn't look anything special but I remember they had a Zamperla Disk-O ride and I only had enough after riding the coaster for one more ride. I thought to myself 'I've never rode a Disk-O before,' and chose some boring generic ride over a historic unique ride. 3) Also on another Japan trip, I had time for one quick small park. It was either Tokyo Dome for the unique Tokyo Panic Spider-Man style ride or Aqua Stadium for their very unique Intamin Launcher. I chose the Intamin and that also got closed down, so I don't regret that one but it was still a missed opportunity for me. Biggest Missed Opportunity: Way back, when I was younger and with my Uncle's up North in the U.K., I had the choice between Flamingo Land or Alton Towers. I chose Alton Towers and missed out on experiencing Top Gun, the Intamin Flight Trainer, and experiencing The Bullet. Considering most of Alton Tower's rides that I rode are still there and made many trips afterwards as a teenager, and the Flight Trainer rides are now extinct I wish I'd chose differently. Honorable Mention: I was desperate to try out Eagle's Fortress after seeing the TPR videos but I delayed my trip to Korea by a year to get a teaching job because I figured I might as well get paid to fly here and travel here than just do a vacation and missed out on the ride due to that decision. As much as I hated seeing that ride SBNO for over 6 years of trips but the reason it's only an honorable mention is by delaying and taking that job I met my future wife, which lead to our son so seems a worthwhile trade-off.....Maybe.... Curious what others have missed out on.
  11. I'd also rather be bored but it becomes really hard to rank the boring ones. I have a good idea whats going at the bottom and top, but I can't remember a thing about most of the boring ones so before they all get lumped together under 1 or 2 numbers in the middle of the poll after say my top 20/bottom 20. You were boring but I sort of remember you: all 25's. I definitely rode you at some point...: all 30's. Since this year I had nothing new to add, I did try and sort them into a better list going from best to worse. I was wrong, it wasn't Everland. At least with Walibi Holland you have other choices. Everland is cake or death.
  12. Source I think the article didn't fully do their research into what the Society of Explorers and Adventurers are and just went with 'alternate reality based around Disney lands, characters, and films are real' but sounds like a TV show based on the society and members from Japan's Tower of Terror (Harrison Hightower) and Hong Kong's Mystic Manor (Henry Mystic) is in the works. I've only been to those 2 parks so not sure if the society is expanded on in any other rides.
  13. I'm curious which parks would come out top if each park's coaster percentages that were eligible for the poll were put together to find the mean. Would it be a park with lots of coasters or would the bad coasters drag them down for a park with 1 or 2 good coasters come out top. I second this, I'm also curious which parks have the biggest deviations.
  14. Wow, go Everland! You only have 2 big coasters since you demolished Eagle's Fortress and you managed to get one into the top 10 and one into the worst 5. Surely the biggest jump in quality from any parks coaster to the next.
  15. I mean... I love my son but all the Japanese people walking out of Tokyo Disney when a huge blizzard hit in the morning and leaving the park empty for the rest of the day is hard to compete with. The wedding/honeymoon were some alright days too now now I think about it.
  16. They kept that opening really quiet, even last weekend, the site had still listed as closed due to government requirements without an opening date.
  17. Some sites are really going wild over this.
  18. At that height and with those height requirements of 120-130cm accompanied, I'm picturing an SBF Drop Tower. We have one in the local Folk Village that matches those requirements and if it does turn out to be one of those models, with the cable permanently attached to the vehicle they ride more like a giant frog hopper than a drop tower.
  19. Last I heard it was bumped to 2022 but I'm unsure since since then Paradise City have opened their hotel and casino next to Incheon instead. Like Shinhwa World, and their little theme park, I think there are requirements for opening a casino that involves having to have a amusement park/family complex of the complex so what opened was a small indoor park called Wonderbox: https://www.p-city.com/front/wonderbox/facility Seems a lot of this casinos are mostly just hitting the requirements to get permission to build, and the parks are more there for requirements than to turn a huge profit so don't expect something too big. I mean the park above's only food is a hot-dog truck, and the gift shop is a cart. (Which still makes their food options better than the American Dream Mall) Isn't it better to just click the report button? Relying for the sake of replying will just alert them to responses and will send more spam bots to the forums.
  20. I'm a bad enthusiast who didn't visit because I was only in town visiting some Canadian friends who I'd met in Korea but I was surprised how you could see the S&S Towers from all over the photo spots of the falls.
  21. Remember the lady who married 1001 Nachts? Well now there's Lady falls in love with a ride....The Movie!
  22. ^ Was there a huge shortage of rooms before? Were employees having to rent off-property? I guess landlords are less likely to want to rent to groups of college kids, but as someone over 30, if I was unemployed post-corona, struggling to find work, I feel like cheap housing would be a huge sell to get me to do the full operational year and could be sold on a low paying job since it'd basically just be a place for me to crash when work is done. I feel like there must be a lot of people who would be the same.
  23. Apart from the 8-seating trains, it is almost exact but it was a very delayed project as well. The park is also home to Korea's only other B&M so maybe it was easier on maintenance but I'm sure the park and B&M would have had discussions
  24. I always seem to miss out on trying a Chaos. The one at Cedar Point had closed down by the time I could finally go there, and I never got to try the one in the U.K. because it poured with rain when I was at Southport.
