They could throw out some random obscure character that no-one has ever heard of and claim it'll be the only ever appearance, and the usual clientele would be tripping over each other to get tickets and bragging rights. I can't talk though because I really wanted to meet Oswald last time I was in Japan even though we were only doing a weekend in Osaka and had no time to get across to Tokyo, although at least that was for myself.

Legoland Florida Discussion Thread
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will never understand the need for parks to advertise 'World's first' on whatever they can. Who is that aimed at? Children will only care that it's Peppa Pig and I don't think any adults, outside theme park bloggers/instagrammers, care about being 'first'. It's like Universal trying to stick 'worlds largest roller-coaster free-fall' or 'first story coaster' on Hagrids. Isn't Harry Potter enough of a selling point? That being said, I'm also curious how strong the I.P. is abroad, I know the Peppa Pig World part of Paulton's Park is very popular among my group of friends with young children in the U.K. who would probably have never gone to Paulton's otherwise, and a lot do take the kids to Orlando for a week or two to Disney when they are young so this park might entice them away from Disney for a day, since most skip Universal if they don't have older children, and also tend to not bother with Legoland either since there's one in the U.K. already they've visited. -
SCAD Towers - Where Are They?

We still have one operating in Korea, part of the extreme sports/white water rafting area: http://www.nrcoop.com/experience/scad_diving/ -
I was moving pictures over to my new computer and I came across these pictures from one of my trips to Japan. I never rode this unique ride and honestly didn't pay it any attention at the time, and recently found out it's been demolished. Looking back I made lots of choices where I've missed out on a ride or park that is no longer an option. I'm wondering, with hindsight, what everyone's biggest missed opportunities/stupid mistakes have been. Mine are: 1) My probably only trip to the Pennsylvania area, and I decided not to experience Knobels, instead opting for a second day at Cedar Point. We hadn't got everything done on the first day and so instead of driving back we got a motel and did a second day there. I didn't think too much on it at the time, and really enjoyed Cedar Point, but I blame Coasterbill's talk of the food and his pierogi map as well as many years of peoples TR's has made me really regret this. 2) The above pictured ride. It didn't look anything special but I remember they had a Zamperla Disk-O ride and I only had enough after riding the coaster for one more ride. I thought to myself 'I've never rode a Disk-O before,' and chose some boring generic ride over a historic unique ride. 3) Also on another Japan trip, I had time for one quick small park. It was either Tokyo Dome for the unique Tokyo Panic Spider-Man style ride or Aqua Stadium for their very unique Intamin Launcher. I chose the Intamin and that also got closed down, so I don't regret that one but it was still a missed opportunity for me. Biggest Missed Opportunity: Way back, when I was younger and with my Uncle's up North in the U.K., I had the choice between Flamingo Land or Alton Towers. I chose Alton Towers and missed out on experiencing Top Gun, the Intamin Flight Trainer, and experiencing The Bullet. Considering most of Alton Tower's rides that I rode are still there and made many trips afterwards as a teenager, and the Flight Trainer rides are now extinct I wish I'd chose differently. Honorable Mention: I was desperate to try out Eagle's Fortress after seeing the TPR videos but I delayed my trip to Korea by a year to get a teaching job because I figured I might as well get paid to fly here and travel here than just do a vacation and missed out on the ride due to that decision. As much as I hated seeing that ride SBNO for over 6 years of trips but the reason it's only an honorable mention is by delaying and taking that job I met my future wife, which lead to our son so seems a worthwhile trade-off.....Maybe.... Curious what others have missed out on.

2020 TPR Coaster Poll Results!
Garet replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd also rather be bored but it becomes really hard to rank the boring ones. I have a good idea whats going at the bottom and top, but I can't remember a thing about most of the boring ones so before they all get lumped together under 1 or 2 numbers in the middle of the poll after say my top 20/bottom 20. You were boring but I sort of remember you: all 25's. I definitely rode you at some point...: all 30's. Since this year I had nothing new to add, I did try and sort them into a better list going from best to worse. I was wrong, it wasn't Everland. At least with Walibi Holland you have other choices. Everland is cake or death. -
Source I think the article didn't fully do their research into what the Society of Explorers and Adventurers are and just went with 'alternate reality based around Disney lands, characters, and films are real' but sounds like a TV show based on the society and members from Japan's Tower of Terror (Harrison Hightower) and Hong Kong's Mystic Manor (Henry Mystic) is in the works. I've only been to those 2 parks so not sure if the society is expanded on in any other rides.

2020 TPR Coaster Poll Results!
Garet replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm curious which parks would come out top if each park's coaster percentages that were eligible for the poll were put together to find the mean. Would it be a park with lots of coasters or would the bad coasters drag them down for a park with 1 or 2 good coasters come out top. I second this, I'm also curious which parks have the biggest deviations. -
2020 TPR Coaster Poll Results!
Garet replied to A.J.'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wow, go Everland! You only have 2 big coasters since you demolished Eagle's Fortress and you managed to get one into the top 10 and one into the worst 5. Surely the biggest jump in quality from any parks coaster to the next. -

I mean... I love my son but all the Japanese people walking out of Tokyo Disney when a huge blizzard hit in the morning and leaving the park empty for the rest of the day is hard to compete with. The wedding/honeymoon were some alright days too now now I think about it. -

They kept that opening really quiet, even last weekend, the site had still listed as closed due to government requirements without an opening date. -

At that height and with those height requirements of 120-130cm accompanied, I'm picturing an SBF Drop Tower. We have one in the local Folk Village that matches those requirements and if it does turn out to be one of those models, with the cable permanently attached to the vehicle they ride more like a giant frog hopper than a drop tower. -
Last I heard it was bumped to 2022 but I'm unsure since since then Paradise City have opened their hotel and casino next to Incheon instead. Like Shinhwa World, and their little theme park, I think there are requirements for opening a casino that involves having to have a amusement park/family complex of the complex so what opened was a small indoor park called Wonderbox: https://www.p-city.com/front/wonderbox/facility Seems a lot of this casinos are mostly just hitting the requirements to get permission to build, and the parks are more there for requirements than to turn a huge profit so don't expect something too big. I mean the park above's only food is a hot-dog truck, and the gift shop is a cart. (Which still makes their food options better than the American Dream Mall) Isn't it better to just click the report button? Relying for the sake of replying will just alert them to responses and will send more spam bots to the forums.

I'm a bad enthusiast who didn't visit because I was only in town visiting some Canadian friends who I'd met in Korea but I was surprised how you could see the S&S Towers from all over the photo spots of the falls. -

^ Was there a huge shortage of rooms before? Were employees having to rent off-property? I guess landlords are less likely to want to rent to groups of college kids, but as someone over 30, if I was unemployed post-corona, struggling to find work, I feel like cheap housing would be a huge sell to get me to do the full operational year and could be sold on a low paying job since it'd basically just be a place for me to crash when work is done. I feel like there must be a lot of people who would be the same. -

Apart from the 8-seating trains, it is almost exact but it was a very delayed project as well. The park is also home to Korea's only other B&M so maybe it was easier on maintenance but I'm sure the park and B&M would have had discussions -

I always seem to miss out on trying a Chaos. The one at Cedar Point had closed down by the time I could finally go there, and I never got to try the one in the U.K. because it poured with rain when I was at Southport. -
Gyeongju World, Korea is year round and their B&M's have the same limit and the park warns you on the site that they won't run if you visit on too cold a day since temperatures can hit up to -4 degrees here. However nearly all the year round parks like Everland and Gyeongju run multiple snow slides to entice people in and offset the water ride/coaster closure. Even smaller parks that run year round like the Folk Village or Seoul Land set up one slope in the winter.

Ocean Park Discussion Thread
Garet replied to Erik Johnson's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Honestly, I don't think any of Ocean Parks coasters are very good and only have the views going for them, even the new B&M which is maybe one of my least favorite B&M's I've ever ridden (I'd heard people complain but on my first visit it just seemed to have typical B&M rattle, however on my last visit it was really bad.) Screamscape is reporting the Arrow coaster is going to get the cut for certain but 1) it's Screamscape and 2) their source is just another blog site called Coaster Kings who credit Hong Kong news without linking to the article but after some searching I found it Here. The article mentions 7 but I could only match up 5 using the Chinese since the translation really made the names different but the 5 listed in the article turned out to be: The Ferris Wheel, Dragon Coaster (Arrow Looper), Abyss Drop Towers, Chairswings, and Log Flume. Saying that however if I were to take a guess, I would also think that the whole back-end of the park would be the first to be phased out. So one of the other of the 7 could be the swinging ship since all the rides around it are being removed. Even on packed days whenever I have been people show up for the dolphin show and then return to the summit area near the train and cable car, the only ride that ever had a line was the observation tower. The place is a ghost town and I don't think I've ever waited for any ride there including the Arrow coaster. The Condor ride was already removed from there a while ago. Considering the main entrance of the park is mostly devoid of rides and probably going to be the area for dining/entertainment, and most of the rides in that article marked as being removed are in the same area in the back of the park I can see them turning that area into the rentable area for '3rd party operators' since it isn't too far from the funicular and cable car stations. The only wild cards are 1) there's a brand new 6 seater version top-scan there which if this article is true it will be completely on it's own which is a bit weird and 2) I'm curious how they will entice people to go there if the park is now a pay to ride park. It might be a hard-sell to 3rd operators to move in all the way up there since that area isn't accessible without taking the train/cable-car. When people had already paid to go through the gate, of course they went up, but I feel like under the new model more people just going to look around will end up down in the entrance/aquarium/panda area. Perhaps the funicular will become free to get more people up to the summit and the cable-car will be paid? Will be interesting to see how the animal exhibits spread throughout the park will factor into the new paying model as well. The other area is the flume/mine-train area. It's far away and another area that people never wanted to make the trek to. The Huss Enterprise was already removed and this article lists the log flume. I just don't see the mine train being kept open if it's the only ride in that far off corner. They added VR to it to revitalize it but they did the same to The Abyss drop tower and that's apparently being cut. Honestly I'm basing it off that newspaper article, so don't take it as confirmed until the park or government says something. I haven't heard anything official yet but the park and government is supposed to release details at the earliest next Monday so maybe confirmation could come then. I've attached pictures of one of our trips on a hot sunny September of the crowds entering and the rides at the back-end. Full disclaimer that it seemed a lot of the crowds that day were there for the aquarium, dolphin show and the animal exhibits around the rides at the top because that's where we kept hitting crowds. -

I really hope I'm wrong but when I hear '3rd party operators installing rides and collecting revenue' all I think of is 'carnival'
