Tokyo Disney Resort Discussion Thread
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Tokyo Disney seems to be also switching some rides to reservation only for the busy Christmas season. Source The English website also seems to make it that you can't queue up again for the same ride Source At least it says if there is a wait-time at the attraction, you won't need a standby pass so potentially you could try and get a ride you missed out on or get another ride in the evening. Everland has been making people use the virtual queue line even when the wait time was listed at 0 minutes and trains were empty. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread
Garet replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm predicting that Dollywood's next coaster will be a (hopefully) more reliable Lightning Rod. You heard it hear first... or second.... or fourteenth, I've lost count after pages on the prices of fudge and the ratio of wood:steel for what can be called a wooden roller-coaster. -
Best - T-Express. It wants to be El Toro until it hits the MCBR then decides it's going to turn into Balder. Worst - Can't remember too many rides where I felt it being too long killed too much of the momentum but as a kid I remember the Pepsi Max Big One getting pretty slow near the end, having a very slow force less helix and a little tunnel back to the station.

Best Theme Park Show You Have Seen.
Garet replied to methos's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Everland's parades always ends in a mini arena with a stage and they have a sort of show/story. This was filmed on a very quiet weekday but it's packed on weekends and I think they used to have a story behind why you had to help in the water fight. I've skipped most of the story to the moment all hell breaks loose. Speaking of Everland and shows I miss, I miss when the park used to run jukebox fireworks in the summer. I managed to see both of these. One year the fireworks show was set to musicals: And another year set to instrumentals where they decided Chariots of Fire should live up to the fire part: That site in the last two videos also has the Boo parade Elissa was talking about but it seems to be just the parade and not the show part. -
Everland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With Corona hitting 1,000 a day, the government announcing popular tourist winter spots, such as mountains to watch the January 1st sunrise (a Korean new years tradition), ski resorts and sledding slopes must now close, and Everland being so devoid of crowds that every ride, even T Express and the safari rides are running mostly empty trains, Everland is now closing..... their rubber tube snow slope in the corner of the park to comply with government regulations. I think at this point Everland is determined to be (probably) the only park in the world to have been open 365 days in the year 2020. At least out of the worlds most visited parks, I think they're the only one to go without closing. -
^^ Just report the spam bots and move on. Even a jokey post is just going to alert it to a response and risk more bots being put on the site. There's like 4 off-topic key words in your jokey post that match up to the bot for it to see it got responded to and the next bot that comes along targeted at that kind of audience can pick up on.

As I said before, I'll wait until I ride it before final judgement but being completely honest, I get a little less excited with each press release. With the comparisons to MIB, I was hoping you'd at least be able to race each other and some kind of virtual red shell/banana against the other car/AR racers.

Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL) Discussion Thread
Garet replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ It's not even just Hong Kong. Singapore decided that the numbers for Hong Kong were also too high and delayed opening a 'travel bubble' between the two countries to 2021 due to it. At the end of the day I’m sure Disney will be fine. Ocean Park was already on government bail outs before corona and was getting a lot of negative publicity (mostly from SCMP which has a huge bias against the parks land) about that money. -
Dollywood Discussion Thread

^ Don't tell them that. I genuinely think they're that passionate about it they would waste the parks time sending emails to them with their signed petition. And if this thread has taught me anything else (apart from people really care about the ratio of wood:steel) during 2020 is that Dollywood already has an overflowing inbox. -

Source Disney doesn't specify a reopening but Ocean Park claim at this time the restrictions are for two weeks. -
It does look very Men in Black ish and I'll reserve final judgement until we see the ride but I'm curious why they went with this style. With something like Radiator Spring Racers it makes sense that two cars would be side by side. But when I think of Mario Kart, I think of swerving side to side around other cars as they spin from a shell. Something about 2 cars side by side seems so static for this I.P. Maybe the AR will make the track seem full of cars but with so many rides or even roller-coasters that have 2 cars coming first/second it's a shame with all the advances in trackless technology, they couldn't have pushed the bar a bit and have 4 trackless cars racing around each other. I'm not really a big fan of VR/AR over seeing actual physical props and cars so maybe that clouds my opinion a bit. Here's hoping the AR makes me a believer.

Everland Discussion Thread
Garet replied to dr.gumbo's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
With Corona about to hit 500 here for the first time since March, Everland will be giving some of its most popular rides including T Express a virtual queue system from today. edit: looking at the app today crowds were very light virtual queues were around 25 minutes for T Express however it seems even on a very light day Lost Valley stopped reservation quite quickly so that might need to be your first choice the app also has to be switched to korean to work as well at the time of writing Source -
Maybe because my only real exposure to SFMM is this thread and people tend to crap on the park a bit, I had very low expectations on how much effort would go into this, but it looks a lot nicer, and done with a lot more effort, than I was expecting. My son would love this and I'd pay for him to see this just to get out the house a bit more.

Dollywood Discussion Thread

If Dollywood wants to still call it a wooden roller-coaster because its got wooden supports, let them. Does it really matter if the park calls it a steel/hybrid/wooden coaster etc? Outside of a very vocal minority of enthusiasts, 99% of the park going people won't even blink. They'll only care that the ride that they thought was awesome on the one ride they managed to get, and then disappointment at a closed sign on the other visits isn't closed as often anymore. -
My post wasn't supposed to be 100% serious and I also didn't say any conversation. I was pretty specific. Like real life it comes down to the situation and when, where, who etc.. If Boldikus was put next to me on TTD and strikes up a conversation in the station and I tell him I'm also into coasters and he brings up Kingda Ka then yeah after the ride maybe I'd talk some nerdy shit about El Toro and T Express over a beer. If however he just starts blathering facts at me or screaming to me even on the launch and 420ft drop about how good it is to have clam-shell restraints vs over the head restraints and less rattling then I'm getting out of there as soon as I can.
