What Video Game Console do you own?
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Random, Random, Random
Actually there is...I just haven't gotten around to installing that one yet! --Robb "In due time..." Alvey -
With the current generation consoles coming down in price, it seems that a lot of people have multiple systems, and for all different reasons. What Video Game Console do you own? and why? What are your favorite games, or favorite genre of games? We have all three. Here is what we play the most on each one: GameCube: Mario games - Mario Party, Mario Kart, Mario Golf, etc. PS2: Katamari Damacy, Taiko No Tatsujin (the Japanese version of Taiko Drum Master) XBOX: MAME games! Yay classic 1980s arcade games! --Robb

^ We were probably there at least 2 hours. I mean we did like EVERYTHING in the rides section, wandered around the gardens, saw the awesome fountains, played in the gas line obstacle course, went to the gift shop, went BACK to the rides area, saw the model trains, went into another gift shop, visited medieval santa, all in like 2-3 hours! --Robb "It was a full day!" Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at Kings Island (KI), this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. Hyper coasters Vs. Wooden
robbalvey replied to spike's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Nah, you're not the only one..I mean, I like Nitro a lot...but I've always thought it was overrated. I like all the Intamin hypers over Nitro, and I even like Raging Bull better than it. Nitro IMO is better than Apollo or Silver Star, though. --Robb -
favorite ride or rides at dorneypark and why?
robbalvey replied to a topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, being that Dorney is one of my least favorite parks, can I vote for one of their water slides as my favorite ride there? ' The "Red, White, and Blue" slides are AWESOME!!!! Seriously!!! Other than that...I'd have to go with Laser as my favorite coaster. Steel Force USED to be good when the trims were always off, and before the days of the Intamin hyper came along...now it's only just a 'good' ride IMO. Talon was one of my least favorite B&M inverts, but at least Silver Bullet has knocked Talon up a notch! The Wild Mouse there always seems to run low capacity and I think I've only ridden it once or twice. Thunderhawk is still really good in the front seat, but those trims REALLY kill the ending of the ride. Seriously, this coaster COULD be as good as Phoenix if it wasn't for those trims. It's smooth, it's got good air, and has potential for more...but it just doesn't deliver. And while Hydra looks interesting....I'm not holding my breath after the last two Cedar Fair commissioned B&M's. --Robb "So yeah...not too much positive to say about Dorney." Alvey -
Battle of the Manufacturers
robbalvey replied to vertgforces's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me it's hands down Intamin. They make some of my favorite rides, coaster and non-coaster. Expedition GeForce, all SROS's, MF, Goliath, Acrophobia, Blue Fall, Drop Zone, Grizzly River Run, their parachute towers, etc... They even did Soarin' Over California, and even though I'm not a big fan of it, it IS a great ride system! And I can't wait to ride one of thier Aqua Trax rides! So yeah, for me it's all about Intamin. They make kick as coasters, and they make tons of quality 'other stuff' too. 2nd for me would be B&M, but most of thier coasters have been very 'hit or miss' lately...mostly 'miss' for me. --Robb -
My story was basically the 'end' of me wanting to play at the DCA version. The short version is this.... I got in the hot seat after some 14 yr old kid had just been in, where the audience was all obnoxious yelling out answers, etc, and they still allowed all that. OK, whatever....because they were doing the same for me too. So anyway, I got in the hot seat and the "Regis" was all cool and joking with me and having 'fun.' At about the 8,000 point question or so they called time. So they asked me if I wanted to come back to the next show, which was in an hour. I waited around the hour, came back, and was first in the hot seat. However, this time around the "Regis," who was the same guy wasn't very joking, in fact he was pretty cold and rude to me for no reason at all. It was almost as though they just wanted me out of the hot seat as quickly as possible so they could get the next person in. I answered a couple of questions, and I used the 50/50 on one and I got it wrong, the audience went "Awwwwww..." BEFORE I even said "Final Answer." So then I jokingly said "Ahh, heck...I guess I'm going to make B my final answer." And the "Regis" says...sorry, you can't do that! And I was like "What??!! You allowed that all last show!" "No we didn't" "What??? Yes you did! And those guys (pointed to a group of passholder Millionaire regulars) who were in the last show know you did!" (They all went 'yeah!) At that point they actually TURNED THE MIKE OFF on me and told me to leave!!! The audience was actually booing the Regis for doing that too! I was so pissed off! It was like they were changing the rules around to suit them! I mean, at the end of the day I didn't really care because it was just some stupid pins, but it was one of those things were I felt really slighted for no reason at all. Gregg was there, he can vouch for it totally being unfair and uncalled for! --Robb "That's my story." Alvey

Hyper coasters Vs. Wooden
robbalvey replied to spike's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like them both...but of course it depends on the ride. I would say that Hypercoasters are my favorite type of Steel coasters, simply because I'm not into rides that are inversion after inversion after inversion, etc, etc.... Naturally people who seem to like wooden coasters also seem to like hypers because the are kind of the 'steel equivalent' of woodies, so to speak. I also like both woodies and hypers that have "Ejector" airtime, not floater air. So that's why I prefer hypers like Expedition GeForce and S:ROS over hypers like Steel Force and Nitro. --Robb -
^ Yeah, getting to a park at opening for us is VERY key. It means we can get the most done at a park in a shorter amount of time, and it's not very often that we have to wait in ANY lines, even for a parks 'newest' big ride. We plan our trips so that we are at every park at LEAST 30 minutes prior to the park's posted opening times. There are a LOT of parks that open their gates 15-30 minutes prior to the park opening the rides, and hold you in one central area, then do a 'rope drop' and let everyone in. That's why we like to be there early enough so that we don't get screwed and end up at the back of the crowd. For example, PKD does this, and in 2001 if you wanted to get a ride on Hypersonic, you NEEDED to be at the park an hour before opening, because they open the gates 30 minutes prior to opening the rides. If you weren't at the front of the crowd, you could expect to wait 2 hours for Hypersonic. The same thing goes for X at SFMM, and many other lower-capacity, popular rides. As for staying late, we normally don't. It might look from our videos and photos that we 'rush' through parks, but we normally do not. We always take our time and try to have a 'smart' park day. Meaning we'll hit the rides that we think will have longer lines once it gets more crowded earlier in the day. For example, if a park has a Wild Mouse, A good Sally dark ride, or any other ride that is low capacity. If a ride has a brand NEW coaster that's sure to get a 2 hour wait later on, we'll hit it first and sometimes manage to get two rides before it gets too crowded. We're also not big on re-riding something over and over again. Which is one reason why we don't go to many enthusaist events. As much as we like parks and like to ride, we found that even our favorite coasters we don't ride more than 5 times. Usually once or twice on most rides gives us our fill. We prefer to ride MORE rides at a park, including non-coaster rides, than one ride over and over again. Unless of course it's Expedition GeForce, Pheonix, or some of our top 5 coasters! I'd say our average park day is anywhere from 4 hours at a small park to 6 or 7 hours at a larger park. It's very rare that we visit a park and DON'T get everything in that we want to see. And it takes some tricky navigation, using a parks premimum line pass (like fastpass, express, or fastlane) to make it happen, but we always seem to come out ahead! Anyway, that's enough on this for now. Please ask any questions you have! --Robb
