For me, I started riding coasters as early as I can remember. I rode Matterhorn when I was probably about 3 or 4 years old. Space mountain when I was about 7. And I can remember riding Colossus at SFMM in it's opening year in 1978. I even had one of those big buttons that said "I rode it!" I only wish I knew what happened to that button now. The weird thing is, my parents HATE coasters! They would always take me to parks, but never ride any coasoters with me. I either went with my sister, or friends. Our site/forums are not meant to compete with Westcoaster, they are meant to 'compliment' Westcoaster and vice/versa. Westcoaster is, for lack of a better term, our 'partner in crime.' We're thinking about getting back to the UK in 2006 as there's now quite a bit of stuff since our 2002 visit for us to ride: - Nemesis: Inferno - Rita - Spinball Whizzer - ^ @ Chessington - Drayton Manor thingy - New coaster at Flamingoland - Bling - Oakwood should have a new coaster - etc Rita is certainly one of those coasters where I have to ride to make any kind of judgement. ^ When did you work there? at least you got to work on a somewhat 'classic' ride. It always seemed as though every time I would go to Knott's, something else on the theming would be broken. The steam tunnel used to work, the fireworks in the final turn would work, the announcer dog would work, the water spray from the wave & surfboard, the doors at the end would work, etc. The last two years, NONE of the stuff worked! It was a really, REALLY good ride. I'm so bummed that Knott's took it out for WINDJAMMER!!!! :shock: While I certainly wouldn't trade back in XLR8R to have it again, since XLR8R is a really good ride, I would definitly trade in Silver Bullet! Wow, that's a tough question to answer. None of them, IMO, really "Stand out." They all have their pluses and minuses. Give us a little info on what you are into, and it might help us answer better. But here's my personal rundown of the parks: - Disneyland/DCA - Hands down IMO the best 'overall' park. It's well run, it's clean, it's got good rides. California Screamin' is probably my 2nd favorite coaster in California. Tower of Terror and Indy Jones are both good rides too. - SFMM - If you want to get a lot of coaster credits in, go here. IMO, none of the coasters here are 'outstanding.' They have some pretty good ones (Batman, Riddler's, Goliath, Superman) but nothing that is in my 'top 20' list. - Knott's Berry Farm - Has IMO the best coaster in all of So Cal (XLR8R) and a really good shuttle loop (Montezoomas) but their other two major coasters (Silver Bullet and Ghostrider) are both kind of 'meh.' This park USED to be one of the best parks on the west coast and I would highly reccomended it. The current management has really ruined the place and I would only suggest to go here if you have an extra day, and after you've been to some of the other parks in CA. - Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - A really fun, great 'boardwalk' park. Lots of fun flat rides, a nice woodie, and good atmosphere. Not a ton of ocasters though, but still I reccomend this place. - PGA - A few coasters, and other than Top Gun (which is probably my 3rd favorite coaster in California) there is not too much here to rave abotu. It's a nice park, though. - SFMW - Again, not an outstanding park, but if you want coaster credits, they have like 8 of them. Roar is a pretty decent woodie. Nothing amazing, but it's not rough like Ghostrider or Psyclone is. I'd only reccomend this park if you are 'in the area' - Legoland - Don't under estimate this park. It's a LOT of fun...but it's really for families. - Bonfante Gardens - Similar to Legoland. A *really* nice park, but it's aimed towars families and kids. I think that's really about it. I hope that helps. Give us more information about what you are looking to get out of your trip, how many parks you can hit, and maybe that will help narrow it down. --Robb

Hey everyone, A couple of weeks ago I got some archival footage of Knott's Berry Farm's now defunct "Wacky Soap Box Racers" and decided it would be a cool idea to do a side by side comparison of this ride and Blackpool Pleasure Beach's Steeplechase. Since these were the ONLY two rides of this type that Arrow designed, it gives you a really good idea of what these two rides were like. I've been on both of them (technically all three if you count that Wacky Box was once the Motorcycle Chase) and I can tell you they are both VERY similar. The only park I've done in Nashville is the old Opryland when that park was in it's last year of operation. Haven't been to the waterpark...sorry. --Robb

I have heard that it's not opening until November. Anyone know if that's the case? I've also heard it's the exact same track layout, but with new theming. Does seem like there hasn't been too much officially announced on this, especially since it's re-opening this year. --robb

Hey everyone, Someone sent me a link to this video that was shot for CBS news. It's a pretty interesting video, some of it is kind of 'blah', but when they get to the part where they finally ride the coaster, and then it rolls back on the reporter's first ride, it's pretty funny! And they've even got onride footage of it going backwards down the tower, which I thought looked pretty cool. Yeah, and from what I know about the DVD cam, it's not as easy to plug it into your computer and import footage like it is with a DV cam. And it's already been compressed, so you're losing quality there too. --Robb "Stick with a DV camera!" Alvey
