I don't get it. I thought Hershey had a good thing going with Intamin? It's a bummer they went with the tremendously less intense "drop" towers here, oh well. At least they still have Skyrush! -

Colossus at Heide Park in Germany... but an RMC Mean Streak would be a steel coaster anyway. Well Colossos only has a 160 ft "drop", with a "height" of 197 ft. It depends on what record they`re going after. Goliath is currently the largest "drop" at 180 ft. Also RMC can do coaster renovations with Topper Track too (where it could remain wood), we just have yet to see a park want that. -

^ "Eastern Mid West" ?? Just repeat that grouping of words to yourself for a minute. So basically, it's the first GCI in a really small geographical location? Wow, such a feat! -

The first one...besides Kentucky Rumbler, Thunderhead, and American Thunder. Ah, I don't really consider Kentucky or Tennessee Midwest. Most people probably wouldn't either. I guess you got me with Evil Knievil, so okay, 2nd GCI in the Midwest. I would not consider Tennessee of Kentucky Midwest either. Renegade was the second behind Evil Kneivil. Kansas City is DEFINITELY midwest. Also, Ozark Wildcat was in the Midwest too. -

That's how I feel! It's not a "bad" name by any means, it's just kinda awkward and sounds like something a 5 year-old would make up! -

How does everyone like the name "Splinter Cat" ? It looks like that will be the name, themed after logging folklore or something random. It runs around the forest and knocks down trees with it's head. -

Hey everybody! Another post, another RMC! After my unsuccessful attempt of riding Lightning Rod, I made my way up the east coast - Here's some highlights from the whole trip! - Fury 325 is my favorite B&M! - Intimidator 305 is still my favorite roller coaster ever! - Maverick was SO MUCH better than I remember, #2 steel overall! - Skyrush is still insane - I Love it! - Phoenix is a gem, a classic, and perfection! - Valravn and Banshee were... good. But I'm not a fan of these new restraints. - Behemoth better than Leviathan?? Who'd have known?! - Voyage was great! Not as much airtime as I was hoping, but still a top-5 woodie! It goes on forever! - Raven, Legend, Shivering Timbers, Thunderhead, Kentucky Rumbler, and even Thunder Run were ALL solid woodies! - Monstre made for a great #400 coaster! Such a strange coaster! I late add-on to the trip was the Lake Compounce/SFNE day. This day was in between Knoebel's and La Ronde. We set ourselves up for a ton of driving, but it was worth it, we wanted to ride as many great coasters as we could! I had previously visited LC/SFNE in 2011, but Wicked Cyclone was a HUGE reason for a return visit! (Bizarro and Boulder Dash were my two favorite coasters at the time) So... Boulder Dash is super rough now. I hate complaining about these things, but the return run along the lake had super terrible jackhammering... The coaster was also void of any ejector airtime. There was a couple floater spots, but that was it - Super disappointing... I rode it twice (including the front) and couldn't do any more, my back was killing me. And that brings us to SFNE... what the hell happened here? I hate focusing on the negative, but this park... Operations were literally a joke. A normally 10-minute line for Superman took over an hour (Luckily my one ride was in the front, and it was still AMAZING!). And here's WICKED CYCLONE! Due to a huge thunderstorm, I got two rides (Very back, and row 4). This coaster was really fun, a relatively long layout for an RMC, and lots of quirky elements! Pros: -Love straight first drop! -6-7 really good spots of airtime! -Double down into straight hill is INSANE! Cons: -Loses a TON of speed at the end -Pacing isn't very good -Not a huge fan of extreme outward banks, repetitive overbanks, or really slow rolls (These elemnts make up about 3/4 of the layout) -Seriously, this thing is CRAWLING at the end, felt like Twisted Colossus's prelift. There's maybe one "great" element after the straight airtime hill that's adjacent to the queue stairs. It may be the fact that I rode a TON of incredible coasters in great succession right before this, or maybe it was just a bit over-hyped, or perhaps it had a case of the infamous "off-day" - But I was definitely a bit let down by Wicked Cyclone, unfortunately. And let down for an RMC means I rank it as low as #16 in my steel coasters! How the RMCs rank for me currently: 1. Outlaw Run 2. Medusa Steel Coaster 3. Iron Rattler 4. New Texas Giant 5. Twisted Colossus 6. Storm Chaser 7. Wicked Cyclone 8. Goliath I was so excited to reride one of the coolest woodens coaster I'd ridden! ... And a couple of lackluster spots. Hopefully a new RMC can make my day better! So far so good! [RMC #8] Ouch,.. This needs a bit of retracking... And where'd the ejector airtime go? There's a couple of really amazing spots! One of the better moments. After this, there isn't much to write home about. Glad to have the old color scheme back! Now just get rid of VR Good news - This coaster remains a top-ten steel! These hills are great in the front! Up next: Joker, SFDK (hopefully soon) The stats of this element (200 degree stall) are more impressive than how it felt, unfortunately. -
I feel like Disney was one step away from completing the 1920/30s style throughout the park. Carthay Circle/the new entrance/paradise pier/old Hollywood/grizzly Rapids even... They all fit together. Now they're throwing marvel into the best looking part of the Hollywood section? I guess they need to retheme the entire Hollywood section (which includes the newish trolley cars that run from tot to the entrance). I'm not too stoked about this. I wish they'd just open an entire marvel/Star Wars third gate. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be done nicely.

^ Am I the only one here who doesn't like going to theme parks? Sorry that I'm just not into the roller coaster fad... I don't get why everybody here is so obsessed with getting hurled out of their seats. Is it just me, or what? -

By this point of the summer, I should have been on every North American RMC, but sometimes shit happens... First Joker was down... And then Lightning Rod... Luckily, I don't live far from Joker and will make a return trip soon. Lightning Rod looks like possibly the most insane coaster ever (I saw 13 test runs over 2 days), so I'll have to fly out there again soon too, not all is lost! My big summer trip has since commenced, so it's time to add a new post to my ever-evolving topic! I visited a lot of parks, but I think I will only post about the RMCs here... Day 4 of my trip, we spent a good part of the day at Kentucky Kingdom before heading to Dollywood. STORM CHASER! This coaster is great! Like every RMC, it does something none of the others do. I loved the first straight airtime hill! In fact, it had a lot of airtime for how short the layout is! It's pretty hard to look past the size of this coaster though, it isn't very fast or intense - Just fun! It also has a lackluster ending, which dampens the already short layout. I'm also not a fan of the first drop - Like Medusa, it's slow and kinda boring/gimmicky. Looking past it's faults, I truly believe RMC did the best they could possibly do with this coaster, while being constricted by height, budget, and creating something different than Lightning Run. Overall, very fun, but nowhere near some of the other RMC creations. Also, I should give a shout-out to Lightning Run here, also designed by Ride Centerline - it's basically the closest thing to an RMC that isn't! This coaster was super fun too - Again, kinda short, but ends on a VERY high note - 3 ejector bunny hills. The coaster doesn't do a whole lot of stuff overall, but does have some really solid moments! I'd probably give the slight edge to SC due to it's abundance/strength of airtime, but both are top-20 for me! This is how I'd rank the RMCs at this point of my trip: 1. Outlaw Run 2. Medusa Steel Coaster 3. Iron Rattler 4. New Texas Giant 5. Twisted Colossus 6. Storm Chaser 7. Lightning Run* 8. Goliath * (Because it feels just like an RMC too ) This coaster is the only coaster outside of B&M, Intamin, and RMC to make it into my top-25 steel! Up next: Wicked Cyclone! LET'S RIDE After 5 rides, we called it a day! Those overbanks were kinda weak... :/ Finally made it to Kentucky [RMC #7] One of the best single moments of airtime on any RMC. I love being launched into the clouds! Weird ending, but that double down was fun in the back. This hill was fun as well! -
Best One-Two Punch
chickenbowl replied to ShaneH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even if the ranking isn't that high, Volcano is a fitting follow-up to I305, so considering actually riding both coasters in a series, it's a great "One-Two Punch" indeed. If I was going totally by rankings (if I had any), Dominator would appear instead of Volcano, but I almost never actually ride them in series, in either order. I disagree, I think Volcano is kinda fun in the front, but only for the first 7 seconds of the ride. Once you exit the volcano, the ride is pretty lame... Not a huge fan of Dominator either. These coasters aren't bad - They're far from great and do not even come close to being comparable to I305, IMO. -
Worst Coaster Ever?
chickenbowl replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
T3 at Kentucky Kingdom is god awful. I thought the new trains might do some good.... Nope. Anyone who complains about thigh stapling on Skyrush should ride T3 and then complain to me. I found the whole experience terrible. The Time Warp/Flight Deck combo at Canada's Wonderland is also the worst... I don't understand Volares, they really shouldn't have inversions. -

This is fun! My list may be innaccurate because I separate wood and steel rankings... A #25 wood isn't quite the same level as a #25 steel. Cedar Point - Maverick(2) + Millennium Force(14) = 16 Holiday World - Voyage(4) + Legend(12) = 16 Six Flags New England - Superman the Ride(8) + Wicked Cyclone(12) = 20 SFGAdv - El Toro(2) + Nitro(18) = 20 Hersheypark - Skyrush(3) + Storm Runner(20) = 23 Knoebel's - Pheonix(3) + Twister(20) = 23 Canada's Wonderland - Leviathan(13) + Behemoth(10) = 23 King's Island - Beast(9) + Diamondback(16) = 25 Carowinds - Fury 325(5) + Intimidator(24) = 29 Six Flags Mexico - Medusa Steel Coaster(4) + Superman el Ultimo Escape(26) = 30 Kentucky Kingdom - Storm Chaser(15) + Lightning Run(17) = 32 SFGAm - Goliath(6) + Raging Bull(27) = 33 SFFT - Iron Rattler(6) + Superman Krypton Coaster(33) = 39 Silver Dollar City - Outlaw Run(1) + Wildfire(38) = 39 King's Dominion desperately needs another rank-able coaster... They have I305 and a nothing else that's truly "great" Also, if Lightning Rod was open when I visited last month, Dollywood would SURELY win for me. And as far as non-visited parks go... Helix/Balder, iSpeed/Katun, Flying Aces/Formula Rossa, Taron/Black Mamba, Goliath/Lost Gravity, Blue Fire/Silver Star or Wodan, Shambhala/Dragon Khan, Viper/Havoc in Heaven Palace, T Express/Herky & Timmy's Racing Coaster all look like excellent combos! -

I went on a Saturday late last month and found all dry rides to have manageable waits (under 30mins) and water park to be crowded (60+ mins for some slides). The two hydro magnetic slides had single rider lines that were under 5 mins though!! Your day should be even better! -

Looks like Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster at Heavenly Resort in Lake Tahoe has opened! California has it's first Alpine Coaster Looking on a map, it seems the coaster passes across state lines between California and Nevada too! Here's the link to the website. You must take a gondola up to where the ride sits, and it seems like a whole "Adventure" package that costs $90 to get up there and ride the coaster... Kinda steep, but the coaster does look very cool!
