The strong counter-argument is based on their marketing timeline, not whether or not it's physically possible to have the ride done by 2017. That post ins't even arguing for a 2017 opening, just hypothesizing what a 2018 opening means for us. Also, you've repeated your marketing argument like 5 times today, we get that you think 2017 is unrealistic. I'm just trying to understand WHY they would start construction THIS early! Surely closing the coaster a month later with the rest of the park would work, no? And even if the coaster was THAT expensive and they needed to close it now, you think they would really need trucks immediately after? Something's fishy... -

Well yeah, but there could be some unforeseen complexities with trying that for the first time that we don't know. It seems simple to us, but we're not the engineers in their office. I think if they don't use Topper Track over IBox, it's a really big missed opportunity. The park desperately needs a modern wooden coaster, and they certainly have potential to earn a handful of more world records, which they don't shy away from (they did advertise that "Valravn shattered TEN WORLD RECORDS). -

So let's say that this will be for 2018. That means the construction timeline will be the longest of any of their projects to date - Two months longer than New Texas Giant (which was a prototype with purposely slow/careful construction) - Also longer than any of their 4 custom ground-up projects. This fact makes me wonder... Somebody could say "Well CP has harsh winters so they need a long time" - Tell that to SFGAm, SFNE, or Kolmarden which all were able to construct in less than a year. Somebody could say "Well this project will be really extensive, RMC's biggest yet with Topper Track instead of standard IBox to keep the coaster wood and break a ton of records" - To that I say, "hmmm, plausible " Obviously Moogarou -

Coasterbill, I think you bring up fair points, but we need to look at everything. Evidence for a 2017 opening: - Closing the coaster before the season even ends (just like every other RMC retrack) - Having construction vehicles already showing up (way too early for a 2018 opening) Evidence for a 2018 opening: - They already announced next year's additions - They usually announce stuff earlier than now - Logical marketing timing - They just opened a huge coaster this season Weigh the evidence how you like, I'm personally going with 2017 -

Why wouldn't they keep it open for the rest of the season? They need construction vehicles this early - 21 months before it opens (05/18)? -

I was on board with this being a 2018 project considering the lack of announcement (and Valravn opening this year), but with work starting this early I'm really starting to think it will actually be 2017! I'm always so surprised how quickly RMC works, I think we could be in for a treat! -

What a hilarious turn of events! Tell me more about the noise and jpeg artifacts please - I love all these conspiracies! It's hilarious how anyone on here would ever think coaster enthusiasts are smart enough/would spend enough time to try and troll everyone with this. The first picture isn't even in a defined location - Why photoshop a picture into an indistinguishable dark place and then proceed give it's exact location where people can check it's legitimacy?.. -

People online are claiming that the announcement for Mean Streak is coming on the 18th.. I understand that Tony said that an announcement will be made sometime after closure, but are we sure that it will happen RIGHT after? Did I miss something or are people just being impatient (like normal fanboy behavior ) ? -
Why? Doesn't SFMM have enough inversions as it is? In fact they hold the record for most inversions at a theme park with 36. King's Island comes in 2nd place at 25... SFMM already has 11 MORE inversions than any other park. I'd argue that they should move away from inversions, not get ANOTHER multi-looper cough...ScreamRiddler'sViperBatmanTatsu...cough.

Rocky Mountain Construction 2017?
chickenbowl replied to kickflipbacktail's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The only rumors I know of that I think are possible for 2017 would be Silverwood and Kennywood. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for anything - 2017 seems to be relatively dull in the US so far. -
I've been on every coaster in Oregon and Kentucky Every coaster taller than 218 ft in North America (tallest I haven't ridden is Mr Freeze-SFStl). Every coaster over 85 mph in North America (fastest I haven't ridden is Phantom's Revenge) The Top-6 longest coasters in North America Every US Disney Theme Park (not water park) Every US Universal Theme Park Every SeaWorld/Busch Theme Park Every North American Arrow Suspended Getting close: 78/86 currently operating coasters in CA. 10/13 Six Flags parks (missing SFA, SFStl, TGE) 8/11 Cedar Fair parks (missing VF, WOF, DP) 56/62 North American B&Ms (Every Dive, Sitting, Flying, Wing) 90% total 8/10 North American RMCs. (Should be 100% but both Joker and LR were closed when I visited ) 80% total 29/37 North American Intamins (Every LSM, Accel, Wood) 78% total 16/24 of the longest coasters in North America Not coaster related exactly, but I've visited 34/50 US states!

I'll do this for a few of my favorite coasters! Intamins: I305 - Turn down that trim a little bit. Otherwise, perfect. Maverick - Hmm, this one is hard. Maybe tweak that hill after the launch so there's airtime there? El Toro - The return run between the turnaround and the RT hill is relatively weak. Skyrush - Make the transitions (stengel dive through the end) a tad tighter. The ending is a little weak compared to the first half. (optional: change the restraints so fellow enthusiasts will stop bitching) RMCs: Outlaw Run - Make the coaster smooth in the wheel seats. Also the transition coming out of the last barrel roll into the brakes is slow/weird. Medusa Steel - Make the drop non-inverting and replace the slow inline twist with a small airtime hill and this coaster is perfect. Iron Rattler - Limit the section on top of the quarry, that outward bank thing sucks and is way too slow. Also, extend the layout after the tunnel a bit. New Texas Giant - The first overbanks are pretty weak Twisted Colossus - The pacing gets killed with the slow lift stuck in the middle. I don't know how to change that while keeping the dueling element. Storm Chaser - Not a huge fan of the ending or the inverting drop. Wicked Cyclone - Umm, cut the layout down so it doesn't crawl through the last third of the ride. It REALLY loses pacing at the end. Goliath - Change the whole layout to have more/smaller/faster elements. These are critiques on my favorite coasters, so while I'm complaining keep in mind that I already love these coasters!

Only 8 parks in the US have announced new coasters for 2017. Compare that to 32 in 2016 and 41 in 2015. I think there is more on the way. 2010 - 20 2011 - 26 2012 - 26 2013 - 27 2014 - 28 2015 - 41 2016 - 32 2017 - 8 [Numbers from RCDB.com] It's actually only 7, EDA's Kersplash is relocated, and the Slinky Dog coaster opening year is merely a guess at this point! RCDB also doesn't list the SWSA family launched coaster supposed to open next year. The thing is, there doesn't seem to be anything major left to announce in the US. I'm sure more coasters will be built, but they'll mostly be tiny or clones.

Absolutely. People that complain about Skyrush hurting their legs should really ride T3, it's literally the WORST!
