Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

There's a 5 Guys Burgers and Fries at Hwy 7 & Weston which isn't far. Not sure if you have those in your neck of the States but if you don't, you must go, best burger in town. Not sure if it was mentioned, but also in proximity would be Turtle Jacks, it's a real good wing place as well as All Star Wings. Tons of food around the area, can never go starved, that's for sure. Make sure you stay for the Starlight Spectacular if you do end up at the park. Starts at 10pm. Park is open till 11 for the summer on Saturday nights. -

Or the first ride themed after Monica Lewinsky? It's been a long time coming and Canadians will get the first chance to board cigar shaped trains and experience near misses with over sized desks and zippers. BEST....LAUNCH....EVER!!!! -

Dominator was moved and the name never reused, unless I'm wrong. But ya, those other ones are definitely accurate. Well, for all I care the ride can be called Raptor/Turtle/hell even Coaster, as long as its a decent ride I'll be a happy camper and their on season pass preview night. -

Outside of Intimidator/i305, has Cedar Fair ever used the same or even similar names? I can't think of any off by hand. Windseeker I guess could count but I am referring more to coasters. -
To those that were initially interested in doing this. Are you guys still interested? If so, PM me and we can maybe get a list/date together and start pursuing group rates if we have enough people. I am very excited that the black tarp/netting that was up there ended up coming down or not being used. Was worried about it blocking the view and ruining the experience.

Show looks amazing...I am happy that Wonderland has what looks like one of the better Starlight shows. It may not be all the displays and stuff like at Knotts or Cedar Point but it definitely has a better centerpiece. -
I've never lost my glasses but always where one of those straps on them that I bought from Cedar Point. Handy little thing that strap is. Although I still remember last summer on my first trip to Knotts I was not allowed, even with my strap, to wear my glasses on Xcellerator. I told the guy that all other rides had no issue and that I've even been on Top Thrill Dragster and he's like "Here we do not allow on any launch coaster, including Pony Express" I replied "that's dumb" to which the ride op said "ya, no kidding"

Ya the guy in the article needs to simmer down a bit. Sure its disappointing the ride isn't open on opening day but it's for the safety and benefit of all guests that it opens when its ready. Either way, looking forward to possibly heading up there this week. Looks like 2011 will be a great season! -

^ You are looking at about a 90min Drive from Niagara Falls to Toronto and then add another 20-30min to get to where Wonderland is. -

Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
PCW_Nut replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Harsh. I'm not a big fan of fan voting for much of anything these days. You see situations where Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady are voted into the NBA All Star game even though they're both injured and out for the year. It's all a take it with a grain of salt situation. Still, they have their place because they're fun to participate in and polls on big name websites like About.com help attract mainstream attention to the industry and that's a good thing, right? After all, parks need more than just the enthusiasts' dollars to build ginormous coasters like i305. A prevalent problem with coaster polls seems to be that people haven't been on all of the options. It's not like the Fans' Choice Awards with movies that are released everywhere. This poll had a coaster in China and one in UAE, I think? Not very likely that voters had been on all 5 of the listed coasters, in my opinion. I'm guessing that Robb and some other TPR members are among the few exceptions. Gauging off of a very small sample size of comments, it seemed like a sizable contingent of the Carowinds Intimidator fans in particular hadn't been on any of the other 4. But that could have just been my perception of it. That is a very good point as well. Again, the polls are fun, it's a nice little collaberation of peoples opinions and what not, but on the whole the be it "best coaster" "best dark ride" hell "best washroom hand dryer", it's all just a matter of perception and personal opinion. That's really all I was trying to say in my post, so I hope I hadn't offended anyone with my comments as that was never my intention. -

In all these polls that are done, I really think they are just a great grouping of rides, but what is "best" for one person may be "worst" for another. It's all a matter of perception I belive so most of these polls, while interesting, are on the same level of any awards show like the Oscars or something...it's all a matter of personal preference. A lot of people bash Maverick, and although its not amazing, it's still in my personal top 3. I hope this year to get out to KD and experience I305 to see what it fits for me. A coaster isn't the best just cause its the tallest, fastest, longest, etc...a great coaster is one that you get off of and instantly want to get back in line for again, if it just so happens to be the tallest or the fastest or the longest then I consider that a bonus. Just my two cents. -

Ahhh okay...didn't know that was still going. I am guessing that its only North American then since other parks overseas have built Dive Coasters. -

I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon and make a prediction. I think whatever they are doing is not for 2011...I could be wrong, but I am seeing the time frame in which they have to build/test/etc and maybe they could pull something off, but I am sure whatever it is wouldn't be anywhere near is "big" as they are promoting. Perhaps a new theater/show/ etc? If it is indeed for 2012 as I am taking a wild guess on or maybe LATE 2011 and IF it's a coaster, could anyone see a B&M Dive Coaster? Again, this is a VERY far off speculation so please don't think I am crazy...just going for the long shot...maybe if it's late 2011 it would be something to make up for the possible removal of SOB? -

Still waiting on mine...looking forward to it though. Going to make the watch wife it and try to get her into TPR a bit. She used to be a coaster fan like myself but a head banging experience on Dragon Fire up here at Canada's Wonderland she kind of got out of the coaster scene ... the light at the end of the tunnel? She got on Behemoth and loved it. So slowly but surely getting her back into it and getting her into TPR as well. Will post pics once I receive mine in the mail.
