TPR's Ever Evolving Park Index

Here is a link to pictures of Hurricane and Sea Serpent from my TR in April to SCBB. http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43935&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I also have a few pics of Bug Out from Wild Adventures. I will try to upload them when I get home from work today. I think I might have pics of the Tiger coaster there too. -
I am gonna have to say California's Great America for a corporate park. Their coaster collection sucks ass! They do have great flat rides though so that was one redeeming quality. As far as non-corporate parks, Wild Adventures sucks ass pretty bad. It is Vekoma hell. I think that 4 or 5 of their coasters are Vekoma. I hope that now it is owned by the Herschend family that they will do something ala Powder Keg or Wildfire to it!

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

Oh great, I guess I am gonna get labeled as a racist now especially since my avatar has men in white hoods. I wasn't even thinking about it when I typed it. It means nothing. Why are people so f'ing sensitive on these boards? You don't hear me being sensitive when someone says fag or that something is gay, even though I am gay. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

On Sunday, I was at my home park (SFOG) and I am waiting on some friends to ride Acrophobia. As I am sitting there I see this large black man and his family looking at Acro and the family wants to ride it until the father says, "we ain't riding that especially after that girl got her head cut off!" I busted out laughing. What a tard! -

I will agree with Hypersonics brakes. OMG, the whole time in line I had to have my fingers in my ears because of the brakes on that thing. Also, at the end of GASM at SFOG when you hit the brakes at the end and then the train starts rolling again there is a loud screeching noise that is just painful. It is like nails on a chalk board!

Strongest/Most forcefull Launch
coasterbear30 replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I have ridden several launched coasters: Viper at SFOG (RIP), Hulk, Volcano, IJ:ST, Hypersonic, V2 (SFDK), Mummy and the best would have to be Volcano. I rode it twice in the same day and it really took my breath away on the first launch both times. In fact I have it on video and my face is all crazy on the first launch. LOL -
Yeah, with SFOG being my home park and also being one of the friends coasterfreak80 was talking about our park sucks on flat rides. I heard that they were supposed to be getting rid of Splash Water Falls and rightly so. NO ONE rides it. The line is always so short even in the summer. And whoever said that flat rides don't work or have no appeal has obviously never looked at rides like MaxAir, SkyHawk and any Top Spin. I don't understand why we can't get a cool flat ride if they aren't going to give us another coaster for a while. We used to at least get something new every 2 years and now it seems it is forever between good rides. And no Thomas Town does not count! I would have rather have a semi broken down Deja Vu than damn Thomas Town. Let the little kids go to American Adventures for a kiddie park. Yes, I am a little bitter. LOL

Great trip report! I just have to say that over the past couple of TPR trip reports I have decided that Kidtums is the CUTEST kid ever. I love her little peace sign signature move. Adorable kid. Way to go Robb and Elissa! -

Just wanted to tell you that I am afraid of heights as well and was scared out of my mind the first time I rode Goliath and then just like you I loved it. It is now my favorite steel coaster and I ride it as much as I can. I think I have ridden it close to 100 times now and the airtime never gets old! B & M Hypers rule! Can't wait to ride Diamonback! -
Parks Coasters and Rides in Movies and TV

I thought this was a thread already but anyway I can't believe no one mentioned Giant Dipper at SCBB in The Lost Boys and also in Dangerous Minds. I rode the Giant Dipper back in April and it was neat to ride something with so much history and also a coaster I had seen in The Lost Boys tons of times! -
Best Coaster at SFOG
coasterbear30 replied to ttowncoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^How the heck can you say what you think about the coasters if you haven't ridden them? SFOG is my home park and this is the way I rank them: Goliath, Goliath, Goliath (airtime galore) Mindbender (Classic Schwarzkoph with only lap bars) Georgia Scorcher (Best stand up that I've ridden) Great America Scream Machine (gotta love a classic out and back woodie) Batman (a clone, but OMG the forces!) Superman (kinda boring but a nice pretzel loop) Canyon Blaster (kiddie coaster that is decent) Ninja (pretty rough and not that fun) Mine Train (rough) GA Cyclone (One word:PAIN! I don't understand why so many people like this POS. Burn it down!) -
Well I totally understand your fears. I too am afraid of heights. There is something to say about something containing you from falling whether it be a lap bar or a fence. For instance, I went to the top of the Empire State Building (about 90 stories) and made myself look over the edge. It was scary but there is a fence and a wall. It wasn't that bad. However jumping off of a 30 foot cliff into a lake was one of the scariest things I have ever done. I do think that making yourself look down is a good way. I know the first time I rode Goliath (SFoG) I had not ridden anything over about 110 feet. Looking out to the side the first time on the lift and seeing the Atlanta skyline and getting to the top of the 200 foot hill scared the piss out of me but after I rode it once, I was hooked and it still is my favorite coaster that I have ridden at least 75 times. I think that you have to make yourself do it. ^ On the other hand, I went to BGA last year and was not scared about riding SheiKra until I saw it in person. WOW! So big. I had already ridden Goliath and it is 200 feet like SheiKra but I think the height mixed with what I knew would be free fall (I hate drop towers) kept me from riding it. (Although I have ridden Hypersonic XLC and Mystery Mine since then and they both have vertical drops) and I know that if I would have just made myself do it I probably would have enjoyed it but for some reason I couldn't do it.

I don't think that any SF park has to get a new coaster every few years but at least give us an exciting flat or SOMETHING. My home park (SFOG) has hardly any good flats (Acrophobia and the Wheelie are about it.) They could remove Splash Water Falls (which no one rides anymore) and put in a giant Huss frisbee or a Skyhawk type ride or I would even take a Top Spin. Just give us something besides a kiddy ride. I am one to try and not complain but if we don't get something decent next year then I will be reconsidering buying a season pass. As far as cheaper coasters go, I wouldn't mind seeing more Intamin impulses(ala Wicked Twister/V2/Voodoo) or wood twisters (ala Thunderhead/Roar/Lightning Racer) They would be cheaper and would still bring out the crowds.

Whoever was saying that Intamin hypers were all "innovative" with their elements, give me a break. That stengal dive that Goliath at Walibi World has hardly looks any different from the hammerhead/overbanked turn that Goliath at SFOG has. I don't see their "stengal dive as all that innovative." -

Begin Rant> I cannot believe how much people are complaining about this ride. For God's sake people be glad that you are getting a new coaster (A B&M Hyper at that) and not some freaking Thomas Town BS. Anyway, I think that it is funny that people are saying "oh its not origional, blah, blah, blah, its the same up and down they have always done." It is a hyper you know, that is what they are intended to do. Can you honestly tell me what wood coasters are all that different? Yes, I know you are going to say El Toro or Balder or whatever because it has a steeper drop. Guess what? They are still all hills that go up and down with a helix or two thrown in for good measure. And don't say the twisters either because they are all pretty much the same concept as well. Get over yourselves! I would take another hyper in a second, but then again Goliath (SFOG) is my favorite coaster. I also have to say that in the back of Goliath on the bunny hills you do get GREAT ejector air. -

I am so freaking excited about this ride. I have not been to KI yet and this will give me yet another reason to visit next year. Hypers are my favorite style of coaster and I am glad KI is getting one. I like almost everything that I have seen about this coaster thus far (minus the Deja/Behemoth style trains which I will try not to complain about.) Good for KI for getting a hyper. Now if Carowinds could just get their rumored hyper next year, I will be set! -
Most Overrated coaster?
coasterbear30 replied to BlackWidow's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I will have to mention two and they are both at BGE. First would be Alpengeist. To be the tallest invert in the world it seriously lacked the thrill and overall fun element to me. It was fun but not amazing like I expected it to be. Montu kills Alpie and Montu is 50 feet shorter. The other would be Apollos Chariot. I guess the reason why this ride is sub par to me is because I had ridden Goliath (SFOG) so many times before I rode AC. Even though the initial drop on AC is bigger then Goliaths, Goliath still slays AC in airtime and fun factor. -
Well while I applaud Shapiro for trying to make the company more money, I also kind of disagree with his approach. If it weren't for coaster enthusiasts and "young" people that ride these coasters then they wouldn't make much money. The kids part of SFOG always seems dead. Coasters don't have to be huge to be thrilling. Yes, they can spend money on kid attractions every year, but let me tell you that if a park does not get a new coaster every few years then there is no reason to go back for me. We got Goliath at SFOG in 2006 but what have we seen since? Thomas Town. And they took out Deja Vu to put in Thomas Town. IMHO, if they don't get something new next year it makes me not want to buy a season pass. I love most of the coasters we have, with the exception of GA Cyclone, but if we don't at least get a flat or another coaster, they are not giving thrill seekers a reason to come back. I don't know if he understands that. I think that families are going to take their kids to parks like Disney because the are just that, kids parks. Not Six Flags. I will probably catch hell for my post but those are my opinions.

I was at the park on Saturday as well for a bit to meet some friends. All I can say is that we were only there all of an hour. We got to ride Superman 1 time and it seemed that everything else was either down or over an hour wait. And we got there at opening. It was ridiculous how many people were there. On top of that, it was hot as hell and we were drenched in sweat in about 30 minutes. We had enough and left the park around 11:30. Glad you had fun! -
Actually my buddy and I go on a regular basis on Sunday afternoons and it is not half as bad as Saturdays. You should be ok, but I would recommend, as Eric did, that you need to at least hit Goliath and Mindbender first as they are the best coasters in the park IMO. If you need credits, Ninja is a walk on even though it is rough and not that great, GASM is worth a ride, Superman is ehhh, Scorcher is great, Batman is....Batman and the Cyclone is terrible unless you really like that "throw my body in as many ways as possible and try to break as many bones as you can in 2 minutes" type of ride. I am going on Saturday and maybe Sunday afternoon for a bit to hang out with some friends.
