  1. If one intern can have that much impact then Busch Gardens may be in more trouble than I thought.
  2. I'm not a big construction nerd or ride speculation theorist, but as we get closer to Mini New Hotness, I thought I'd check in this thread every now and then. So do most people on here think Goliath with surpass Outlaw Run, be about the same, or fall short? I haven't ridden Outlaw Run, btw.
  3. Count me in as another non-votin' jerkwad. Although, to be fair, I didn't ride anything last year and the only new coaster I've ridden since 2010 is Verbolten. As of now, I305 is my favorite steel and El Toro is my favorite overall. This year I'm looking forward to riding some new (to me) would-be challengers to my top 2 favorites like Goliath (SFGA), MF, Maverick, Skyrush, and possibly Outlaw Run.
  4. +1 Especially don't listen to me because the idea of dying on a roller coaster doesn't really bother me. Although this might depend on the levels and sustained lengths of pain involved.
  5. Hah!!! Good call. The ride looks great. I need to get on one of these Scandinavia trip!
  6. Poltergeist operates with the faster launch from the Flight of Fear twins and without an MCBR like Joker. I'm pretty sure the only reason Joker doesn't do the same is just to keep costs as low as possible. Although I haven't ridden the FoF at KI, Poltergeist definitely is my favorite amongst the ones I've ridden.
  7. Obviously nothing has been confirmed. Guess we'll see. If a new fairly big coaster is announced I'm very curious where it might go. KD and Carowinds each got their Intimidator coasters the same year in 2010. KD's next coaster doesn't necessarily have to be a $25-30 million Intamin or B&M beast either.
  8. The good feedback for Banshee makes me excited for the possibility of a B&M inverted as KD's new coaster for next year.
  9. Umm. Excuse me. You forgot the "superfluous B" Glad Banshee is getting some positive cred. Makes me look forward to this more than I was on the Mini New Hotness.
  10. This thread has shamed into going for a run tonight. Yet, I want a Cinnabon.
  11. I've been to the park twice-- in 2006 and in 2008. I don't have any major complaints from either visit other than ride operations. I don't know how it's fared since my last visit but I actually really like Batwing, especially compared to Nighthawk (the other Vekoma flyer I've been on). I might have to make a trip this summer.
  12. Great stuff on SDC. I'm moving to Colorado in August and I'm thinking about stopping off at SDC and Dollywood along the way, two parks I've never been to.
  13. This hits the nail on the head. Every other park we visited made a better effort to be good hosts, and I would have loved to say the same for SFOT but I just can't. Iron Rattler was closed too, but that didn't stop SFFT from being awesome. They did everything they could to give us the best day possible. That all being said, based on what I've heard about the park in the past, and that I still need those missed credits, I definitely plan on returning there at some point in the future and hopefully things will have improved. I know this is from a few months ago, but when TPR went to SFoT in 2009 we had a blast. Operations were pretty good and I don't seem to remember any major issues (other than something with the hotel we stayed at). That was my first TPR trip so I might have been oblivious though. Has there been a change in management at SFoT that would have made the 2013 trip that much worse?
  14. Good stuff as usual, Chuck. I still need to process my Platinum Pass. Probably won't do that until next month after I'm done with school.
  15. Anyone ever hear much from this Indiegogo campaign they did? I know they fell well short of their goal but it would be nice for people who contributed to get some sort of update.
  16. Speaking of the rich folks at Kingsmill, I had to drive my dad there for a birthday party for her 80-year old sister (although I wouldn't necessarily call her and my uncle "rich"). I noticed how crowded the park seemed. Does anyone know if Apollo's Chariot was down? I didn't see it running but operations might have been slow in dispatching trains.
  17. No one here "thinks" KD is getting one of those. We're speculating and given that Cedar Fair has installed similar types of rides in different parks around the same time, an inverted or wing rider doesn't seem off-base. Morgan hypers at Dorney, VF, and WofF in the mid 90's Xcelerator and Top Thrill 2002 and 2003 BM Inverts at Knotts and WofF in the mid-2000's BM hypers at CW, KI, and Caro 2008-2010 Gigas at KD in 2010 and CW in 2012 Based on this, why wouldn't we speculate about similar types of rides being installed in different parks? I should have worded it better, Assume would be a good word. I'm just wondering. We shouldn't speculate it because we have a new CEO who said he wanted each park to be different and not all have the same attractions. Sorry if I was unclear. No worries. I always felt like Volcano was KD's answer to the BM invert (Alpengeist) so I don't think that's what KD will get. Although I'd prefer that over a wing rider. ETA I think most enthusiasts just try to make a correlation between what other parks in the same chain are getting and what are a certain park's needs.

  19. I think it's a pick 'em when it comes to choosing which awful KD coaster needs to go: Hurler, Shockwave, and Anaconda
  20. Is there any good scuttle about what type of coaster and where in the park they would put the new one? B&M Invert is my guess! With Alpengeist getting rough (IMO), I actually wouldn't mind this. I also hope Cedar Fair takes notice of the lukewarm reception of the wing riders and bypasses one of these for KD. I know KD isn't lacking in launch coasters, but I actually wouldn't mind something similar to Top Thrill Dragster as well.
  21. I pretty much liked them ever since my first visit to Kings Dominion and rode the Scooby Doo when I was around 3 or 4. As I got older (around 7-8) and could ride Rebel Yell and King Kobra, I was hooked. Those Discovery and Travel Channel roller coaster specials from the late 1990's reinforced the idea of roller coasters and theme parks as a hobby that I was interested in. However, I never started making specialized trips outside of my home parks until around 2006 (when I joined this site).

  23. I have no real context for what years Thunderhawk has been running great or awful. All I know is that in my one visit to Dorney in 2007 I loved it and it took me by surprise. Remains in the top half of my (admittedly short) woodies list.
