I may just go back sometime this season then to check it out. The view of the ocean must be awesome up there. Speaking of NE coaster enthusiasts, we should have some kind of meet up at SFNE or Canobie or something. New England is way too small for some of us to not have met yet. -

A lot of high stress areas on Intamins have these, like SFNE's SRoS return camelbacks. They either have these or the zig-zagging columns. I'm sure there's many others that have these, they are fairly common. Nothing to be excited about I would say. -
Another Record-Breaker?
ECZenith replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Is that true? NO Is that crazy? YES B&M flying coasters have only gotten to about 170' so far so I'd say that's far from reality. Tatsu was AWESOME at just that height. I believe B&M in general don't want to get to the 300' mark and I don't think there's a park out there that could afford a 500' B&M and make sense of it. That rumor was started by a dippin' dots attendant and/or CP fanboy. A Vekoma Flying Dutchman at that height mind as well go right into the heart of the Sun because I'm insantly blinded on a sunny day on X-Flight or Batwing due to the facing up. I'm not complaining, just a different way to fly I guess. I wouldn't want to go on a Vekoma over 200' unless it was some kind of new design or Disney prototype. I just feel it would kill me to look at it. Will there ever be a 500' coaster? Almost certainly, but I'd say there's a 99% chance it won't happen next year or anytime soon until a more reliable launch system is developed. -
Let's just say I used up an entire lime last night after the Red Sox lost 3 straight games to the evil, evil, bastard yankees.

I haven't been here in YEARS. I had no idea they had a drop ride. Cool TR, glad you had fun. -
What Makes a Coaster Scary?
ECZenith replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Anticipation during potential-kinetic transfer: I find chain lifts and pre-launch areas bring out the most anxiety in people riding coasters. Speed: Lots of people skip rides because they are too fast and think that coasters with high speeds could be uncomfortable to them. Chaos/Unsafe Feeling: For several minutes, your life is in the control of an automated machine on a hard-to follow twisting layout. Not knowing what could happen next makes some feel threatened. Inversions: I've heard many say they're not going on (insert coaster name here) because it has too many "flips". Most likely the fear of becoming sick. Sound: Yeah, sound. I always ask my non-enthusiast friends that don't ride why... and one of them mentioned that the "click clack" of a chain lift makes them feel a bit uneasy about riding. Then there's the B&Ms and other coasters that "roar" A huge machine that roars like a beast is enough to turn someone away. Visual impact: Sometimes the ride just looks too damn big for some people and they would probably ride if some coasters were smaller. -
It's good to finally hear SOMETHING about this thing! Here's basically what the article says, I'm at work and don't mind making sense of this since I have nothing else to do. The American movie theme park Universal Studios Japan which is under new management will build a new coaster for the 2007 season. (Mentions 2004's Spiderman play area) A new coaster has been applied for reaching from the lagoon to the entry gates having a track length of 1.2 kilometers, max. height 44 meters, a 50 degree drop, and max speed 90 kph. The coaster will seat 36 riders in rows of 4. In order to improve the deficit, spending in recent years has been limited. A new attraction is assumed to lead to a growth in attendance and therefore profits. Rain and other factors have kept attendance low in recent years but a new major attraction hopes to increase the amount of visitors to the park. Yeah, it's safe to say it's a B&M, even though the layout doesn't show much... To our friends in the east, have you heard anything recently about this?

El Toro, if I could I would still be on it. Borderline religious experience. -

I'm glad to see so many good review for Tornado. I'm actually more excited to try out the newish arrow looper than Thunderhead. -
I was just going to say that too... Wednesday always seems to be the best day to visit ANY theme park. Noone taking long weekends or the friday off beforehand. Crowds are generally lesser on days closer to the middle of the week anywhere. I would have never gotten MM done on a Saturday without the help of the Alveys.

How do You Judge a Park as Best Theme Park?
ECZenith replied to Adriel's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I almost never eat at theme parks so restaurants aren't a factor to me. I'm interested in a good selection of unique rides, effective security/staff is VERY important to keep things running smoothly, keeping with one theme per area is very important, I hate seeing randomly placed booths that kill an area's immersion. -
Why would it be so ridiculous for X to have a computer problem? To say something blew up is a little dramatic, I can't remember the last time any part of a coaster exploded randomly... What I really wish would happen to Flashback would be to see it go to a small family-run park that needs a steel coaster badly. The ride is so unique and could still draw crowds where it is needed. I don't know why I'm so fascinated with this coaster, but if it ends up running somewhere, you read it here... I'm flying out to ride it!

Son of Beast or Beast
ECZenith replied to dragsterfan420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SOB COULD be such a great ride... Since CF has such a cozy relationship with Intamin it would be a dream to have them redo the track with the prefab treatment. I know this would be ridiculously expensive but I'd rather have an El Toro-esque smoothness with that potentially awesome layout than another cloned coaster for the next couple years. So not happening... -

Since there's still so many possibilities and so much track... Yes you can hope. -
The movie is about exactly what the title says. A bunch of snakes on a plan, although how they got there is a mystery to me. As far as I'm concerned there will never be a better Samuel L Jackson movie than Pulp Fiction. I can't believe how hyped up this movie was WAY before it was released and now that I see the cheesy commercials, I'm definately all set. The next movie I see will be Saw III.

^^^ Holy sh*t! That must have cost a lot of time and money to assemble. Is that all one continuous track? -

^^ You and me both, the DD project is more difficult than I thought it would be to get dueling spots down with perfect timing. The ride also has to be unique to its Orlando cousins so while the concept isn't new, these tracks will be. Theming will also be an important factor. ^As for the jeep tours, they came out pretty good, just needs some custom banners. I'm not about to show you a "naked" ride, it will be done within the next few days when I get a day off from all this overtime. Sean ::stuck here for third double shift in a row:: Costa -
What's up, If you're reading this then you must be visiting CP soon... I was going to ask if one of you could pick up a Millennium Force lapel pin for me while you're out there. It's the only one they don't sell in the online store and they still sell them in the park. I would be able to pay with a money order with shipping, and of course a tip. If you can do this favor for me, please send me a PM. Thanks,

Your longest coaster drought?
ECZenith replied to canada's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In 2001 I went to boot camp in SC in the spring and didn't finish my entire training until late fall. I hadn't gone on any coasters since October of 2000 and didn't get back on one until March of 2002. 2001 overall sucked. -

Are these the ones that even have the spiral lifts to take the balls to the top? I remember having something like that I got from Sears for like my 12th birthday, it was the one toy I never got sick of... Ah, it sucks to get older and throw away all your cool crap. Be sure to show us waht you make out of it!
