It's not the damn economy. It all has to do with "image" These people thought that if they made a theme park, threw the Hard Rock name on it, that people would just come in droves based on image and name recognition. They figured they didn't have to advertise much because the "Hard Rock" name alone would bring in people. It's a really crappy situation. That and overpriced tickets for a park where only half the attractions weren't working didn't help. Look at our world nowadays, companies rely so much on name recognition that they think they can make a crappy product, throw a good name on it and it will sell just because of the name. That's the sad state of the country we live in. I completely blame management for the utter and epic failure that was HRP. They were just horrible and completely relying on the name, why else would that have bought the rights for the name if they didn't think it, in itself, would bring people in.

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

You know, from the webcam views, it looks like the almost have all the track pieces in place. I wonder if they get in completed, if they will do a little testing before we get our great Ohio winter? I can't imagine getting all the pieces together and not cycling the trains a few times.... -

The Dreamy Tower looks, well, dreamy!!! And the "Loop and Screw" coaster? I thought that's what you did in college when trying to get a girl to...... -
TPR TV Test - Please ignore

Tried IE7, Chrome, Safari and only saw first vid. Firefox showed all three. Followed the links to update Flash player and what-not, but to no avail. -
Looks like fun, the Ohio State Fair was the same way, but they had every crappy walk through rid you could have. They also had all the crappy sideshow acts. I gotta say though, that Disney quilt looked amazing, would have been cool to see it in person and look for all the hidden stitching patterns. Very creative.

Inverted Wooden Coaster
Skramp replied to Vffreak07's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Can that be serious? How could the wood hold up to all the stress of weight and gravity? It wood break all the time!!! There is no way that would ever be built anywhere!! -
If you could get rid of one thing..
Skramp replied to maeryk's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You know, there's lots of things I would get rid of. But, honestly, I've stopped visiting parks over the past couple of years for one main reason, and I know it will sound stupid, but here goes. I can't stand to pay $50 to get in, then wait in agonizing lines and only ride 3 coasters in a day, while paying $15 for parking and $15 for the worst lunch ever. I think overall, I'm pretty burnt on the whole theme park experience, it just doesn't seem worth the money anymore. Now, onto other things. 1) I second, third whatever the bathing suits on coaster statement, that's horrible. 2) Basketballs need to go!!! 3) Food prices!!! Need I say more? 4) Rude employees in general, whether texting or whatever, even trash people are rude (though I can't blame them). I don't know, guess I'm getting cynical in my old age, but the whole experience has taken a downward turn over the past few years. -
Theme Park Review's 2008 Asia Tour!
Skramp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great report so far Robb, the captions keep getting better and better!!! That place looks insane and beautiful, love the scooter rental idea. The flyer gets my nod for best coaster theming ever, it is simply amazing how much work and detail they put into that. I would say that looks better than Everest at Animal Kingdom. Simply Amazing!!! -
Coasters you have been on that are gone now
Skramp replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, I searched a whole lot (so as not to emulate my hero!! (see title)) and couldn't come up with anything. So here goes: I was thinking it would be cool if we could gauge age by rides we have ridden that others may not have heard of or only seen in pictures. I work in customer service and am always talking to people and it's funny to see the blank stares you get from people when you mention some of this stuff. Does it make anyone else feel old? You could list by park or just rides. Kings Island King Cobra Flight Commander Screamin Demon Dolphin Show The Bat (didn't ride, but watched it) Cedar Point Ferris Wheel in old location Double Log Flume where Raptor is Disaster Transport before it was enclosed Dolphin Show I've also been to Fantast Farm and Boblo Island. What does everyone else have? -
Stand Up Coasters
Skramp replied to MASH80554077's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I might be in the minority here, but I love stand-ups. The feeling of your feet flying free while cruising the course. But, the one thing I've always wanted to see was a stand-up water ride. Whether it be flume or anything. I mean imagine the new Pilgrim's Plunge with stand-up boats and going down that drop, that would be intense. Just my thoughts...... -

My thoughts exactly!! That first pic makes it look like you're just driving through a bunch of fields and in the middle of nowhere, there's a water park. Are they for real with this sign? "Lets just write on a board and stick it up here!" -
Thank you wonderful title fairy!! I love my title, you completely nailed it!! Feel free to randomly or creatively change my title at your smallest whim!
-
Oh great and mighty title fairy, might I please have a creative custom title? I have been a good boy recently and have not angered anyone, and have even dealt with CoasterDUD being a complete moron.

Most inversions on a coaster
Skramp replied to coasterstud522's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Mine would be either Vortex (KI) or Viper (SFMM). And to answer your future threads CoasterDUD, the wettest water ride I've been on is Congo Falls, the tallest ferris wheel is the one at Cedar Point. I mean come on, what's the coaster with the most inversions you're ridden? Is that really what this site has become? -

^ are you serious? Haven't you had like half of your recent posts locked? And you were hyping the forum rules saying you put a lot of teenagers to shame? I think you put yourself to shame with your actions. I think Terrance put it best a few posts up. -

Man, you have to understand about Adventure Express. It's gotta be one of the best mine trains out there, and the ending is just hilarious. If you've been on it, you know what I mean. But it's a darn great ride!!! -
First off, nice double-post. Secondly, are you serious? Usually the concept art doesn't live up to what is actually done!! I realize you're young and your park experience is limited, but come on, you're talking about Universal here, you think the work is going look crappy? Get serious, they have some of the best designers, builders......around. It will look amazing when it's done.

Extreme Terror Rides
Skramp replied to coasterdude5's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That show was pretty bad. 1. Firehawk as a new coaster? No, not quite, but to the GP who didn't know that it got moved from GL, they would think so. 2. I might have misheard, but did the say TTD goes 175 mph? I could have sworn that's what they said. 3. Terminal Velocity is a SCAD tower, probably the one at the place in Dallas. That's really old news, they had them at IAAPA in 01. TPR Scad Tower The only thing really relevant in the show was the part on SR and Fahrenheit at Hersheypark. Everything else was just rehashed stuff they've shown many times before. I really wish they would consult some true coaster people to find out what's new an innovative. It's kind of like that MSN article that pops up all the time about the 10 best coasters. -

Damn, everyone needs some Valium and a 12 pk!!! The ride just got announced and it's already a piece of crap that no one will like? Wow, can you guys also tell me what the winning lottery numbers will be for Friday since you seem to be able to tell the future so well? It's cool to say you don't like the layout, colors, bunnyhills, trains or whatever, but get off your damn soap boxes and relax. I think we have a new group here at TPR, lets call them "preacher boys." They come on here and spout off just so they can read their comments and show them to their friends. Let the ride become what it is. As long as it's a semi-tame ride, it will draw in the folks to KI as they are a huge family park. Let them have their fun. If you go, ride it, like it or don't, your choice, but shut up on these damn boards and stop arguing with everyone like you think you're Jebus or something.
