Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Skramp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know about this Robb. From this picture you posted it sure looks like the car comes in contact with water? I know it doesn't plunge into a big pool of water or anything, but wouldn't that be the same as if there was rain on the track. I'd have to agree with what someone else said that it is CF policy to close the rides due to the Magnum accident. Water sprayed directly onto track. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Skramp replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here's my only question about the Maverick Aqua Trax debate.........Why does Maverick close so quickly at the slightest bit of rain? Is it just the trains? I mean if it was originally an Aqua Trax design wouldn't it have been designed to handle a little bit of water in spots? But overall, I have to agree with Robb, the similarities are just too close to not think that this may have originally been an Aqua Trax design. -

Wow, those are some amazing pics. Have to ask though, how do you the shots so bright? Are you taking them manually or point/click? A few of the Maverick and Dominator pics have such an amazing look to the tracks, just wondering if you were doing something special or if you're just that damn good? lol -
Kemah threads show ugly side of TPR
Skramp replied to texcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ok, so if we're voting on the most pointless TPR threads, I vote for this one. Let's have a whole thread where we "debate" freedom of speech and how people are entitled to say what they want about anything, but then tell them we're wrong. While we're at it, let's talk in circles about nothing. This thread is dumb. No one's point here is more valid than the other's. Anyone who posts on here is entitled to state whatever they want, if you don't like it or agree with it, ok, move on. Don't start debates about something just for the sake of debating it. P.S.-Sorry Robb if this is a bad rant, I'm just tired of this "piss and moan" attitude we've seen on here lately. Everything from this crap, to "why aren't you posting updates faster," "why isn't 'insert name here' in any of the pictures in the update." It's just getting incredibly juvenile lately and all people do is bitch, makes it not much fun. -

You don't need MLA format. Just state the website. Wow!!! If we were required to post in MLA format on here, that would be hilarious!!! How many people would fail that adventure!!! -
I think that may be the long rumored hamster ball ride!!!

This is definitely a sad moment. I loved his posts and his off-the-cuff humor. He will be missed by the whole TPR community. My deepest sympathy to his family and passenger. I think we should stop all the trains on CP lifthills for a minute in his honor. Thank you Dan for all your contributions to our community. RIP (P.S.- Wes, let me know when you get the PayPal account setup, I will definitely send some money that way.) -
The Official "TPR MidWest USA 2007" Trip Thread!

My question is how long did you hold up the line by taking so damn long to get the car closed? We now know who causes stacking!!! -

Ok, so I stumbled across this site today and they were talking about an old amusement park called Dogpatch USA in Arkansas. I searched and there was some ramblings on here about, but no real descriptions of it or anything. So, I'm wondering, does anyone know more about it or did anyone ever go there? What was it like? Looks crappy in the pics, but wonder what it looked like when they were taking care of it. http://www.abandonedbutnotforgotten.com/Dogpatch%20USA.htm

Sounds like a lot of fun!! Glad you got to hang with the TPR crew. But I gotta ask, what's up with El's shorts in that photo? Didn't those got out of style with parachute pants and such back in the 80's? Haha, lol, but that's cool. Woozers!!! Those are some great shorts Elissa -

I don't care what anyone says, that ride looks sweet. It may be an eyesore with the huge towers and footers, but the views and the feeling must be amazing. Is there any give in the cable as you ride? That would just add to the experience. Nice pics, thanks. -
I think the designs look very cool. Would be very interesting to see if it actually materializes. Seems like New Yorkians have been talking for years about what to do at Coney and nothing has ever happened, so we will see.

Dang, what a great trip down memory lane!! I'd have to add Information Society to that list. Oingo Boingo was GREAT!!! Incredible music and one hell of a stage show to go with it. For those of you who don't know who Danny Elfman is, he was in OB as mentioned and then got into film composing. He's pretty much Tim Burton's personal composer for his movies. Here's a small list of the movies he's done: Pee Wee's Big Adventure Big Top Pee Wee Batman Edward Scissorhands Nightmare Before Christmas Midnight Run Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Beetlejuice Amazing Stories and the list goes on and on.... He truly is an amazing composer and provided some great music back in the days. If I'm not mistaken, isn't Oingo Boingo feature in the movie Back to School as the band during some party? Sorry Robb, just had to

Spare Parts - Where do they get them...
Skramp replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Gee, forgive me, but this seems a little stupid for a whole topic. Obviously they are able to get or make parts somewhere, because all the old rides are still standing and running, there really is no reason for this topic. Let's say Chevy goes out of business, do you think I'm be able to find lug nuts for my rear passenger tire? Come on, this is ridiculous, of course they are able to get replacement parts, there are companies out there that do nothing but make replacement parts for manufacturers and for themselves. Do you really think that when a Company goes out of business there parts stop being manufactured? That's crazy talk..... -
I love this pic!!! She's got that "What a wimpy, little tower" look on her face. Classic Wimpy, little tower!!!

The people at Kings Island Central have organized a great event planned for Aug. 4th. Sounds incredible and if you're anywhere near the area, you should definitely check it out. You can find the info here www.kicentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10113

I know everyone hates it when we give links to other sites, but KIcentral has over like 100 awesome shots of KI from the early 70's. Definitely worth taking a look at: http://www.kicentral.com/history/photos/thumbnails.php?album=lastup&cat=0 Weird to see how much the park has changed over the years.

Great Coasters on The Discovery Channel
Skramp replied to Evan1127's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder if Robb uses the "duct tape the camera to my hand" technique?? I know he doesn't, but did we need 30 secs about doing that? I think when we saw the duct tape you could figure out what was going on. -
Let's say you can jump in your DeLorean, get it up to 88mph and head back to any year you wanted to ride a coaster before it was gone, where would you go? Or what coaster would you rebuild today? I would ride either the Crystal Beach Cyclone, or the Aeroplane at Playland Here's a old video of the second one: The Aeroplane Coaster at Playland

Skramp replied to CoasterWarriors's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
The difference in the train designs is easy, Stealth aka Borg was the first true flying coaster. Firehawk and the others are the improved versions of that so they may have had some redesign issues (aerodynamics and coaster design included) Who knows, that different shape of the nose cone may add 3 mph or reduce drag or g-forces, but whatever the case, it's just a design progression.
