  1. So I was sitting around thinking about "iconic" coasters and I was wondering what everyone else thought about this question: "Is there a coaster that could not be located somewhere else?" This can be for whatever reason, like the ride just loses it's character if it's moved. I would have to say the Beast at KI would be a bad fit almost anywhere else than it is. You take the "back country" out of it and it just not the same. There are some coasters (Big Bad Wolf, Loch Ness, Tatsu) that are specifically designed for their geography so of course those wouldn't work very well anywhere else, but what about other coasters whose surroundings give them even more character, could they be moved? I would say you could take rides like Kingda Ka, TTD, Magnum, Steel Force, Scream!, or many other rides and move them wherever and it wouldn't affect them at all. So............?
  2. I have two that I always thought were great from a past Europe PTR. Best Coaster Themeing EVER!!! The face makes the picture!
  3. I'm not sure what to think about this thread after reading through it. While I agree that we may not be in favor of what parks are adding. We may deem it "pointless" but the fact is that adding a new attraction will draw in people regardless. I don't agree with adding exact clones at different parks throughout a chain, but you give people in different geographical areas the chance to ride a coaster they read about. I think it's pointless to come on here and bitch about something at your home park because you don't like it or don't think it's cool. What you might not like, hundreds of others might. The only thing I could see as pointless would be if a park adding an exact clone of something that was already in their park. Say adding another Raptor to CP. That would be pointless. If you add a coaster that has a great capacity (Scream) or something new to draw people (Tomb Raider:KI), it is pure marketing, meant to draw in people, which in fact it did/does. As much as we may hate the additions, they do their intended purpose. Now, I agree that some park's planning methods are a bit confusing? Like why did CP take out almost all the water rides? Obviously so that on hot summer days they can make the extra money by charging for admission to Soak City, but then again that is a marketing move. Let's face it, whether we agree or not, there are mostly financial reasons behind all the moves parks make. We may not like it, but then again we aren't in control of multi-million dollar corporations who are in this game to make money over please enthusiasts.
  4. I love this pic. How much has changed since this? The whole back of the park was trees, who knew that? Look at all those trees!!
  5. Looks very cool!! The island shaped like an orca seems a little cheesy, but gets the point across. I just can't imagine spending that much money to go there for probably what will end up being the same thing that is in the states. My main question is where the heck are you going to park? Even buses and stuff?
  6. Damn, sorry my post offended everybody. It was a complete joke. Guess I don't post enough to be in the "clique" of people that can say anything. From now on I'll keep my comments to myself and won't add anything to anything on here. Thanks to everyone.
  7. Screamin Demon/Bat/King Cobra-KI Everything at Boblo Island Everything at Geauga Lake Flashback/Psychlone-SFMM Screaming Eagle/Serpent-Americana Maybe a few others.......
  8. The hard part, and what you have to remember about SFKK is that it is right next to the airport, so they will always have major height restrictions to deal with. That makes it suck since they can't build anything build. Maybe something like Nemesis or Mamba would be cool if they built it into the ground. Other than that, it would be very hard for them to get clearance to build much. Always seemed to me to be more of a ghetto SF park, just something they picked up because the price was right and they were in a buying mood.
  9. Hilarious PTR as always!!! Great job Robb. I really enjoyed it and the comments keep getting better. Only problem was there was not enough pictures of sexy girls like Lou or Hoffman, I think the trip would have benefited from some more of those types of pics!! (Sarcasm? never!!) What was the total "Lou Credit" for the trip, I bet on the over of 75, did I win?
  10. What about that one park out in AZ "Castles n Coasters." From the pics and descriptions it sounds like a pretty big dump.
  11. Hahahaha!!! That's hilarious!! Of all the pictures they could have chosen from and they pick that one. It's perfect though!!! Congrats Robb.
  12. Searched for this and found nothing so I figured I would post it. Saw this video and was laughing. Got to admit it takes some guts. How many security people would be waiting for you at the bottom after this? http://www.break.com/index/waterslide-stunts.html
  13. I think someone needs a chill pill. I personally agree that CP and KI have taken turns for the worse over the years. CP used to be a great place to go and have fun, but they have turned it a crazy mecca where when you go, you get to spend $60 to get in, then ride three rides for the day because you have to wait in 3 hour lines everywhere. It's one thing to have great attractions, but you also have to manage the crowds around those attractions and that's where CF fails horribly at all parks. It seems their attitude is "get them to pay and get in the door, then we don't care." I hate lines personally and that CF really needs to implement the Q-bot or something. Why would any family want to come there and spend the money knowing that they may only get on 3 or 4 rides? Doesn't make sense when you can go to another park with a ride system that will give them a full day of fun. That's the problem with the CF parks, they have a non-caring attitude about everything, except for where their guests put their trash. I would not go to Disney parks either, mainly because of the crowds and the prices. Just does not seem like a good value, but I will definitely take my kids there one day, because it's an American icon and everyone should visit at least once. But, to kewl, relax man, everyone has the right to say what they want, but you just look dumb by trying to blast everyone whenever they say something you don't like. It's ok, it's just someone's opinion, they're entitled to it, just like you are to yours. Take the higher road and don't respond, it will help people respect you more.
  14. I love this idea. I have three kids under 8 and would never think of taking them into this kind of restaurant. My favorite part of it is the end of the article where it states "there are 97 other restaurants to enjoy!!!" 97? Like where are we possibly going to go if we can't eat at this place, we have no choices!!!!
  15. I kind of agree with that, but "Blue Streak" always makes me think of a Smurf with dirty drawers, and "Mean Streak" reminds of the 7 days my wife is......well, you know. But Raptor, Mantis? Who had the Biology book in their office at those times? Top Thrill is a good name and I like Magnum too. But the rest of them are kind of crappy also. I don't like the "Backlot Stunt Coaster," just a little too generic for me. I personally think that CF should come on here and ask for suggestions about ride names. How bout asking the GP what kind of names they like instead of just picking generic crap? But, across the board, not just CF, coaster names have been pretty crappy. Just my two cents.
  16. But why do parks have to follow crazy what if scenarios!?!? Car company's don't even have to make a car that will keep you alive in a 37mph crash! It's ridiculous to make parks make rides like that! E, sometimes I forget why I love you and Robb so much. It's post like this!! Humorous but completely true at the same time. This whole situation is ridiculous. The kids are completely at fault for breaking the rules and the park's property. But, because we are such a stupid country who worries too much about the injured and not the circumstances, stupid crap like this seems ok and we just shift the blame. Just like the freaking "hot coffee lady," who sued McD's. I mean our whole nation is just ridiculous. I would have no problem standing behind an organization that said "You broke our rules and brought injury upon yourself and we're not paying for it." It's time to become uncompassionate and realistic if you ask me. In fact, I'm going to sue Robb and Ellisa for the hang nail I just developed while typing this message, I mean it's completely their fault!!!
  17. I really hope Water World sued the parents of all the kids who participated for destroying their property. They openly admit they disobeyed the posted rules so there is complete grounds for a lawsuit. How could the kids not be found responsible for the damage they caused, no reason the park's insurance company should foot the bill for repairs. Not to sound bad but I think these kids, and any kids that try this crap, get what's coming to them. It's just stupidity!!!
  18. I don't know, you tell me if these are the same cars? Found the pic on rcdb.com under The Vampire. They might be, but this was the only shot they had that showed the cars. It says these were replaced in 2002 with newer trains. link:http://www.rcdb.com/ig784.htm?picture=1 From the Bat? Original as posted by Monte on the front page
  19. I remember that ride. It was torn down before I was big enough to ride, but the look of it scared me as a kid. They did an excellent jump of theming it. You can still see remnants of it in the Vortex station if you look at the ceiling. And I know Robb hates it when you link to other vids, but there is one on YouTube about the Bat that is really cool. I'll link it here, but if Robb wants to remove it, go ahead.
  20. Going back to the Intamin catalog, I actually rode Flight Commander at KI when I was like 13 or 14 and I have to say it wasn't very impressive. You sat in this pod with a joystick that had four functions....move the arm holding the pod up or down and rotate the pod clockwise or counterclockwise all while the middle pillar rotated. It really wasn't much and didn't really require re-rides. I have been on swings that rotated faster than it did. Here's what's left of it: Old que
  21. Ok, so I may not be a math major, but I have to wonder about some of the claims in this video......On GASM, they say it has 3-28 passenger trains and an overall capacity of 1900 people per hour. Now, at that rate they would have to run 68 cycles to meet those numbers (1900 pph/28 people per train= 67.8 circuits). Does anyone else find that weird? Especially since each circuit is over 2 minutes long? Just mathematically doesn't add up. Plus, your always talking about maybe 10 second load/unload/dispatch times. Guess it's always fun to brag though.
  22. This thread has to rank in the Top 5 ultimate kick ass threads ever posted on TPR!!!! Shane, you are doing an amazing job!! Can't wait to see what comes next. I have some old pics from KI, MM and others I might scan in a share soon. But, in the meantime, you are providing some amazing history for everyone, a lot of people have probably never heard of 50% of the stuff you're posting. Thanks!!!! I check this thread every few hours to see if you've added to it.
  23. Yeah, it worked fine for me also. On a side note, I looked at SF Astroworld and the pics are kind of cool. You can see 4 or 5 coasters in various states of deconstruction. You can see pieces laying around on the ground. Don't know if everyone has the same images, but it's worth checking out.
  24. I read the Theme park and donkeys board first. Usually every day usually 2 or 3 pages, unless I'm hunting for something Honestly, I love reading the locked posts, fun to see people get nailed. Also, read posts about local parks the most. Profile, Videos, Cool Stuff for Registered People Not really, would like more videos, but wouldn't we all!!!
  25. It's like deja vu.......http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=39864
