Gardaland Discussion Thread

It seems the best seat is on the far right from that POV. All the turns (except one) are to the left so you probably have some great floater air out there. But, the outer left seat probably has a lot of close-to-the-ground encounters. I will say that the slow barrell roll looks amazing with all the themeing in it. -
Man dies after fall from roller coaster
Skramp replied to jab123's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I loved the fact that the guy got into the car afterwards and didn't find any issues with the restraints! Um....isn't that going to really skew your defense in the "wrongful death" lawsuit that you know will happen in "Sue Happy America"? I have never had a chance to ride this, but I always gauge carnival rides on how the supports look on the ground. Like if they shake a lot or are braced by plywood, it's a no go. -

Here's my strange thought.......Do we have concrete evidence that these teaser vids are from this year? Couldn't they have shot them last fall and just held on to them? They could have been working on footers and land clearing for a while now up to the point where they just have to install something? I mean, just because they're no leaves on the trees and the ground is muddy, that doesn't mean it's a recent vid. Maybe while they were clearing the stuff for Windseeker they went over and cleared out another area for something else.....just a thought. -

I would love to see them tear down SoB and maybe replace it with a Mega Lite or something. It was good the first year, and then just became a torture machine. You're right about it having a very boring layout. It was built with only highest drop and loop in mind. They forgot that the rest of the ride needed to be good also. I think they should auction off "first match" for it. Being the winning bidder gets to light the first match to it and watch it burn! -

I haven't been in the theater since the Days of Thunder show. But, I think the theater is a one-trick pony that doesn't bring in a lot of visitors except for a place to sit down and relax for a few. I would much rather they use it for something else, how about an enclosed kiddie coaster or some crazy one off thing? I would rather have CInema 180 return! -

I am actually going to give you credit for #7 as well. The clue was referring to a starfish which appears in your photo, just not the one I had in mind. As a result, you are the winner! Please send me your mailing address to Eric@themeparkreview.com WooHoo!! I Win!! Haha, but actually, I would like to donate my prize to Clare. She was good competition and I already own both of the prize choices. I had fun just playing the game and setting up an excel spreadsheet to compare answers(<--NERD!!). So since she was the next closest, allow her to pick her prize please! -

But what about water rides? I mean would you prefer a log ride that just meanders through the woods or one like Splash Mountain or Ripsaw Falls where they tell you a story as you go? I think a good theme on a ride can go a long way, i.e. Adventure Express. But, I think what you are forgetting is that some rides are meant to tell a story or transport you to another world (Tomb Raider, Adventure Express, It's a Small World) while others are just pure rides. I think it depends on what you want and how you like to be entertained whether having a theme matters or not.

Maybe they're putting another Halloween Haunt maze way out there? You know, one that doesn't really suck? Anyway, did anyone check out their video blog of the Beast retracking? At the end, it looks like they are either re-doing, expanding or adding a tunnel section. Really hard to tell from the video exactly which area they are working on. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/fun/blog/2011/2/14/Beast_of_a_project.cfm -
4D coaster model
Skramp replied to Jack Rimer's topic in Roller Coaster Games, Models, and Other Randomness
I think it's an incredible idea!! I might offer one other aspect.....what if you had a rail on top of the strong back and one underneath? You could offer a "floorless" and "suspended" ride all in one.?? My main question is what kind of stress or fatigue would it put on that main "strongback" having that many forces pulling it in different directions? It seems that would be the greatest liability in that it may suffer failures quicker than most "strongbacks" on traditional designs? -

Skramp replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Robb, Dayton is about an hour away from KI. Would be a nice side trip!! You could also check to see if there's a Dayton Dragons (A League Baseball) game that night. They have a section in the outfield called the "Dragon's Lair" that you can rent for special occasions. How bout "TPR take me out to the Ballgame" night in Dayton? -

That Giant Splash looks great, like it's falling from the heavens! And a theme park in Gettysburg? Wow, now you can go learn fictional and nonfictional history all in one area. Keep it coming Shane, they look great! PS-When is it time to start preping for the coming season? -
Ferrari World Discussion Thread
Skramp replied to Captain Jack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Quick!! Everyone email Kat your donations so she can save Ferrari World!! Man, there are some dumb posts on here, but the last two pages take the cake. That press release said the park was SOLD, not CLOSED! It doesn't compare to Geagua, Hard Rock or any of that. Just a sale to another owner. Man, look at all the doomsayers come out of the woodwork!! -

Wow!! What a bunch of nerds we all are. Since I started this, I'll tell you a little more about it. It is located in Dayton, OH, downtown off of 1st street if anyone in the area wants to go check it out. It is a 20x40 room filled with balls. As some have figured out, you want the clear balls with presents inside of them, the colored balls are empty. There is a camera inside the drop area that records your prize if you win. When you win, something should pop up asking for your info so they can ship you your prize. I know there were a lot of prizes donated by Alien Workshop (clothes, complete skateboards and such) and some other stuff. It is amazing how many people are playing!! -
Remember those claw machines that steal your money and give no prizes? Well, here's a better one!! http://www.thesantaclaw.com/ The Santa Claw! Once you register you will get in line (lines have been very long!!) and you control the machine over your computer. If you win a prize, they ship it to you free. And the claw machine is MASSIVE!! It is more than human size and has a live video feed to show you what is going on. So, it seems that the developers who run the Mall of America have come on board to ressurect the so-far failed Meadowlands Mall Project. So does that mean we will see more entertainment additions or coasters? It seems that they are thinking about redesigning the mall's concept and making changes, but what will happen to the first indoor ski slope in the US? I would love to see it succeed and maybe spawn others in other major markets. Here's an article that explains more: http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/local_news/new_jersey/mall-of-america-developers-to-rescue-xanadu-20101223-lgf
