  1. I'm going to book non-refundable airfare, hotel, and car rental to go to KD on opening day weekend next year. It'll totally be the park's fault if I miss the new coaster next year.
  2. Swedish = Tack Norwegian = Takk Finnish = Kiitos
  3. The comparisons are likely because it's the same company building the coaster using the same vendor who is delivering the same ride type. Also, there's not really a glut of 300-399 ft. coasters to compare this new one to. It's a perfectly valid question: Will this new coaster be designed primarily for speed or airtime?
  4. Honestly, you probably should be bummed out a bit about that because Liseberg really is that good. It's easily in my top 3 parks, along with EPCOT and Knoebels. No other park that I know of combines top end rides with some of the very best atmosphere/landscaping. Many parks are strong in one area or the other, but very few parks that I know of "have it all".
  5. Have you actually seen the movie? Personally, I didn't find any racism in it.
  6. It's nice to see Intamin coming up with a real innovation. It sounds like this new track design could change a lot of what we see built over the next few years. I hope that this coaster is "MF with airtime", but I'm skeptical of this at this point. Mostly I'm just irritated because I've now been given a compelling reason to go back to one of my least favorite parks. 300 ft. coaster = Better Than Disney!!!
  7. I had a banana for your mother last night, Trebek.
  8. +1 These were the best rides I've ever had on anything. The airtime hit like a Mack truck. EGF, El Toro, Piraten, the 7 B&M hypers, and everything else I've ever ridden have been thoroughly owned.
  9. I'm curious why this was even posted to one of the public forms. PM seems like a more appropriate way to handle this. That is unless you're trying to start drama.
  10. I'm with you on this. The ride does nothing for me. It has some of the most penis-smashing seats I've ever encountered and the airtime is not all that. And the turnaround is one of the most horrible coat hanger bending elements I've ever seen. I've given the ride several chances all over the train and have been thoroughly disappointed each and every time.
  11. ^^^Or what about how Kennywood runs its coasters without air gates. ***GASP*** What about the children??? We need to protect the children! Or what about all the parks that still run their woodies with buzz bars? Oh noes! Phoenix and Cornball must be killing riders by the dozen! I think this sort of thing generally just makes people more alert to the very real danger that the coaster presents because otherwise idiots would be getting mowed down by Phantom or jumping out of Phoenix every day.
  12. I just watched the second video. I thought it was much funnier than the first. Of course, I'm laughing in horror because this stuff is all true.
  13. ^No worries. I've just seen this trend before in OTR and watched it all fall apart in a very nasty way. Oh, and thread hijacking is sort of my hobby.
  14. ^I'm not sure if you realize this or not, but OTR was supposedly doing well before the riots hit in 2001. That set progress back in the area about 10 years with the resulting crime wave. I lived downtown then and it was a very ugly time. The police were effectively neutered and many businesses moved out of downtown. Armed robbery was rampant as far south as 4th Street. The fact that crime has dropped off a bit isn't particularly surprising as it could not increase forever. But OTR is still a nasty ghetto with drug dealing in the open, lots of homeless, panhandlers, more empty buildings than occupied ones, jaywalkers who get mad at you for having the nerve to drive down the street, and, of course, plenty of shootings and murders. I drive through the area all the time. It still looks like an ugly ghetto to me. If people want to move in, that's great. I've done it and seen where it leads. They haven't solved the root of the problem and therefore are, in my estimation, living on top of a powder keg. To make the problem worse, Hamilton County has a serious shortage of jail space and no money to correct this problem.
  15. ^You don't really know what you're talking about. And I'll leave it at that.
  16. Investing in OTR is like shoveling money into the incinerator. It's a nasty ghetto and will remain a nasty ghetto. They've been talking about rebuilding it since at least the early 90s, but it's just never going to going anywhere when you consider the crime, the drugs, etc.
  17. Yes, I wish that guy had updated his page since 2001! His hate mail is, like Scott says, priceless.
  18. Perhaps the Spanish ghetto fair approach is, in a way, better since they don't lull you into a false sense of security with fences that toddlers can crawl underneath. You know you have to be on guard at all times in a place like that. I dunno. I'm not going to pass judgment on these people just yet. As much as I hate people who let their kids run savagely amok in public, it's possible that this was just a brief moment of inattention. That child certainly paid a horrible price for his parents' screw up.

  20. It's amazing how much they've done with this ride since we were there on May 3rd. All the theming just came out of nowhere. This definitely looks like the king of splash battles, but my personal favorite is likely to remain the one at Walibi World.
  21. ^We went opening weekend in 2007 and the room was roughly $250/night. And that wasn't one of their more expensive rooms. It was a pretty basic room in the newer part of the hotel. It was a spotless room of perhaps upper 2-star quality. Something you'd expect to pay ~$85/night for at a Comfort Inn.
  22. If I were to stay on property at CP again, I'd probably try the Bon Air wing of Breakers. The regular rooms are way overpriced. It's Disney Deluxe pricing without the theming or great restaurants inside the hotel. Don't get me wrong. Breakers is a nice hotel. Just not $250/night nice. I think Paul has the best advice: Show up, park in the main lot, and enjoy the park until late. Then check in at Breakers and have your fingers crossed that Bon Air is full. It's certainly worth a shot.
  23. I know of three places in the Cincinnati area to get Mexican Coke. I greatly prefer it and sometimes seek it out. I don't drink Pepsi and therefore won't try this version of it.
  24. Right, and a lot of us have jobs because the American consumer loves to buy random crap he/she doesn't need. It might be silly, but it keeps many of us employed.
  25. Huh??? I've been on both coasters and I don't see much similarity in the lay outs.
