Yes, you are, hehehehe. A forum to discuss tips, tricks, techniques, software, hardware, EFX, etc. I'm sure there's a lot of TPR members that have a lot to give on the topic, and a lot of people who would like to learn.

Hello R&E&K! Just wondering if you guys have thought of adding a photography/videography category to the forums. Being it's such a huge part of this online community with trip reports, I think it would be a great addition, and would probably alleviate a lot of questions you guys get here. Just a though! Dennis

Indiana Beach (IB) Discussion Thread

Actually, Screamin' Squirrels don't use tubular track like Afterburner. Unless S&S considers this version 2 of Screaming Squirrel, but there's no documenting of this that I can find. (Anyone have anything solid on this?) S&S's website is no help, one of the WORST industry web sites! (Apparently under design AGAIN! Don't people know that you don't put up a new site unless it's FINISHED!) Again, (repeating myself) RCDB is a great resource, but is not 100% accurate, as it relies on submissions and is voluntarily ran. IMHO, Steel Hog looks like a torture device of some sort. It certainly doesn't look comfortable. With everyone else, I hope all us skeptics are wrong. -
Kennywood (KW) Discussion Thread
DenDen replied to DenDen's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yeah, I just wish the number was a little more exact. I'm actually suprised it's over a million. And I'm sure that it's going to get higher, especially if they go through with the expansion plans. (Hoping for Intamin Wood!) For those in the area, the off season is going to be quite interesteing to watch that area of land, since there's really no way of blocking it's view. -

Love it, love it, love it! This is why I love TPR! (standing up, clapping!!!!!!!) -
^Yep. Perfect example, machine operators start $10-12 an hour, ride ops make minimum wage. In FL, it's only $6.79. If I were an EMT, I would not work in a theme park.

OMG, this totally reminds me of a local drag queen here in Fort Lauderdale!!! Compair, who came up with the idea first? You make the call!

This was one of my most anticipated coasters this year, looks GREAT! Hoping to get up there when I visit family late in the season! Job Well Done Robb! -
Totally agree, she is the bomb! Awesome trip report, even without pictures, it still rocks.

This is an awesome trip report! To answer your question about the Phantom, before the "do over", it was an extremely intense ride. But for a lot of people, that meant it was too rough. (The OTSRs were a tad brutal, especially when exiting the corkscrew!) I'm suprised it lasted 10 years, since Kennywood had so many "strained neck lawsuits" during it's history. (Pittsburgh has a few too many ambulance chaser lawyers, they used to stand in the parking lot, looking for people holding their necks.) -
Six Flags Magic Mountain's X2 Media Day
DenDen replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
For me, I know (from what I've read from everyone in the other threads) that the actual improvements weren't for smothness, but after all the money they spent, (which we know was a lot!) it would have been a nice suprise! Once the video came out on SF's site, (the ride footage version, not the commercial,) the one thing I noticed right away was they had no good shots of the seats inverting, meaning the the flip action on the new trains was just as noticably shakey than the old trains. Understandable. I think for me, Magic Mountain bit off more than they could chew on this. When they announced the revamping, they went too far, playing as if X2 was going to be some extraordinary, uber-cool retheming of the ride. (Especially when you watch that CG commercial.) If they just would have said "we're closing for a paint job and new trains", I think I would have been less critical, and the music/fire would have been an awesome bonus! I'm sure when I ride it again, (I think/hope at the end of June) I'll like it just as much as I did before, maybe a little bit more with the added distractions. I'm just disappointed over all this hype, and was waiting for some big suprise to come out of all of this. -
Six Flags Magic Mountain's X2 Media Day
DenDen replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Sorry, it still looks like the piece of crap that I rode years ago. Notice that nowhere in Robb's report did he say "OMG, it's so awesome, it's so smooth, it's awesome, OMG, OMG, OMG". Which pretty much means "it's the same damn thing". Cosmetics don't do much for me Six Flags, NOT impressed, sorry. TAER IT DOWN! -
Yes, we miss you Shepp!

OK, I'm not a TV watcher that much, I personally only watch local news, and a couple shows that are on the affiliates, I'm on the computer way too much... But anyway, I have a 28" HDTV that I've only used as a computer monitor because I refuse to pay $200 for cable or satelite just to get local HD and DTV. So what did I buy today? an HDTVi antenna, $29!!!!!!!!!!!! Works like a charm!!!!!!!!!!!! I get ALL of the local channels now in HD, plus their additional channels like weather and music. And oddly enough, I now pick up a couple Palm Beach stations as well. Best money I've spent this year!

Carnival Ride Accident
DenDen replied to chmilo24's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
How? If the arms failed, then it would be highly likely that 1 or 2 arms would have lowered past the normal loading/unloading position. Since all the arms are past the loading/unloading position, and the arms are not flush against the support tower (when racked up for transport, the arms are flush against the support tower so they can fold the support tower to a horizontal position), we should look at what happened to the hydraulic ram that raises and lowers the arms. .. You answered your own question. In the "parked" position, those arms are higher up, and the swings obviously don't make contact with the ground. This obviously was arm failure. (or what ever is responsible for the what raises or lowers them, my opinion, same thing!) The arms are actualy close to "transport" position. -

What's wrong with Mean Streak?
DenDen replied to dammie16@vt.edu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nah, MeanStreak sucked from day one. I rode it in the first 2 seasons, and to this day, it is still the only coaster that I've ever felt actual pain, and had to stop riding for a while to heal my spleen. All kidding aside, I kinda like rides that are a little rough, Steel Phantom was one of my favorites. MeanStreak was just awful. I can only imagine what it's like now that it's braked to death. -

Sad to see the family go, but happy to see the real possibility of development is in the future. -
Did you know Grand Slam Canyon Adventuredome was originally supposed to be an indoor water park? The idea was scrapped for many reasons, including (at the time) Wet'n'Wild.
