  1. A cable snap takes a matter of hours to fix if they have another cable on-site. I was at Cedar Point last September when a cable snapped around 1 PM. The ride was back up and running by 7 PM when I got on it. From what I've heard from a few park employees, something fell on the launch track and got into the catch car's track. It sounds like the only part that needs to be replaced, however, is the catch car, so it shouldn't be TOO long of a wait.
  2. Fun Spot in Angola, Indiana. They could benefit from doing something like Beech Bend did this year and put in a nice wooden roller coaster for everyone to enjoy. And Michigan's Adventure... I mean this is the sixth straight season with no new coaster, the longest in the Cedar Fair chain (Geauga Lake fanboys, you last got a coaster in 2001, don't complain). Hopefully with everything out of the way a new coaster is in the works for 2007.
  3. I found a ring from the Knoebel's carousel over by the Phoenix when I was there. Last time I checked, they weren't supposed to be removed from the carousel building, so someone probably ganked it from the carousel. Anyways, it sits as a paperweight on my desk now.
  4. 1. Talon @ Dorney Park 2. Great Bear @ Hersheypark 3. Raptor @ Cedar Point Haven't been on any others...
  5. Stream is not working for me in Firefox... didn't work the other day either.
  6. Storm Runner (and for that matter, most of the other Hersheypark coasters) really are great rides, and I'd take them over the huge record-breakers that other parks have any day.
  7. I keep it down in cost by not doing the special things, as well as not buying souvenirs and stuff like that. Basically, our only costs are hotel, gas, food, and tickets. That's it. I actually really liked that plan, Jeezus, so here's what I'm looking at right now: DAY ONE Drive to Bowling Green, KY (7.5 hour drive!) Spend afternoon/evening at Beech Bend Drive to Louisville, KY (1.5 hour drive) Check in at hotel DAY TWO Drive to Holiday World (1.5 hour drive) Spend day at Holiday World Drive to Louisville, KY (1.5 hour drive) Spend night at hotel DAY THREE Check out of hotel Spend morning/afternoon at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Drive home (6 hour drive) That's still a LOT of driving to do after Kentucky Kingdom though. And the only reason I really want to go to Kentucky Kingdom is for Hellavator and the coasters. Is it possible to do Kentucky Kingdom in about 5 or 6 hours?
  8. lol, "Grannie" doesn't camp. Trust me, I tried that with PPP last year, and I think the quote was "You want me to sleep in a WHAT?!?" I think I found a great trip that would be around $350 to $400 after all expenses would be as follows. DAY ONE Drive from Lansing, MI to Louisville, KY Spend the day at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom Check in at hotel DAY TWO Drive to Holiday World Spend the day at Holiday World Drive back to hotel DAY THREE Check out of hotel Drive from Louisville, KY to Lansing, MI Are there any other things I could do on Day Three before leaving? I really don't care to spend two days at Kentucky Kingdom, but if there's something else in Louisville that would be GREAT!
  9. Actually, I didn't mention the Dells because I was just there in 2004 and I'll be headed back again this year. It's our big trip we take every two years as a family. But yeah, the Dells is a great place. Actually, I'm looking at Holiday World. I've never been there and I'd really like to go. Any advice on a Holiday World trip? It would probably be the week after TimbersFest in June. EDIT: Two years ago was 2004... doh.
  10. Just thought I would give my topic a bit of a bump, as now it seems that I've got a little more... well, FREEDOM with this trip. I have a $300 budget, which, I know, isn't much. That includes all gas, park tickets, hotels, etc... Keep in mind, this is for TWO people (myself at 17 and a senior at 71). My grandma has a car, but gas counts towards that $300 budget. I've been to quite a few parks recently, here's the list I'd rather wait for a few more years to return to: Michigan's Adventure, Cedar Point, Geauga Lake, Dorney Park, Knoebel's, Hersheypark, Walt Disney World. What I'd like to do is two parks and then a day of sightseeing/visiting... after all, my grandma is going with me so it can't be all coastering like I wish it could be. I don't know how logical/cost effective something like this is, so I have no idea what to expect exactly. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!
  11. Elissa, I don't like being an airtime whore anymore. The money has gone down the tubes. Can you change mine to "Would you like Goliath with that?" Thank you!
  12. Trust me, I know all about boring flats. My homepark (Michigan's Adventure) has worse flats than Fun Spot (my other homepark). If I want a waterpark, I go to Michigan's Adventure. If I want rides, I go to Fun Spot. I'm sitting here on my computer right now, and I can see the lights on the ferris wheel outside my window. Usually it's on the other side of the mall, but when they built the new Best Buy they moved it over to this side. And I still wish I knew what happened to the Toboggan and the Loop-o-Plane...
  13. Haha, me, ride a Zipper? Yeah right! Those things look more painful than anything produced by Arrow or Vekoma! Was just up there again. It was just packed wall-to-wall, so I made my way over to the Cliff Hanger, took a ride, and left. I didn't expect it to be that busy, but dang, they were making a killing off the people there. I didn't have my camera/videocamera with me, so there's no new media to look at. Next weekend, I promise...
  14. I just got back from the Lansing Mall parking lot where Skerbeck's (Escanaba, MI amsuement company) has setup their midway full of rides, games, carnies, and more. I got an armband, and I'll probably be going back up later to ride a little bit more, and then later this week to take videos and more pictures, and then next weekend with some friends, so this may be an ongoing trip report. And of a CARNIVAL, at that! Got there, got an armband, and rode my first Cliff Hanger. While sure, they're not as comfortable as I can imagine a B&M flyer to be, it did impress me. The ops were running nice long cycles on everything, so we got to fly for quite a while. After that we took a spin on the Spider, which I've been on many many many times, but the long ride cycle once again just made the ride. I think it lasted about 4 minutes from ending of the load cycle to beginning of the unload cycle, all of which was spinning. Then I took my first ride on a Gravitron. I've never been on a Gravitron/Rotor, so I didn't really know what exactly to expect. I knew you got plastered to the wall, but the whole up/down thing really freaked me out. Great ride though, with (once again), a nice long cycle. I started to feel a little hungry, so I opted for one more ride before heading home (I live about a minute away), this time on the High Flyer. I don't know exactly what model this is from where, but it was (once again) a first for me, and, if the long ride cycles continue tonight, a last. It was fun, sure, but getting held up there at the top just hurts. Not SLC hurt, sure, but just hurt. Hopefully they'll setup the Loop-o-Plane and Toboggan sometime this week, they had them on-site on Wednesday when they got here but they're not on the midway anywhere. Alright, enough of that, on to the pictures I have right now. More pictures and videos as the week progresses! The far end of the midway. I hoped this would turn out, and it did. They also have Euro Bungees and a rock wall for $5.00 extra. One ride I opted not to go for, the Zipper. Remember Rob's "Manhattan Express" video? ;o) Now if only these happy smiles were around AFTER the ride. My sister : "I swear to god I'll kill you if you spin this thing right now..." Great ride, even for being on a carnival midway. At least it's better than a Vekoma flyer! Getting ready for our first ride of the day - the Cliff Hanger.
  15. I think he might be a runaway monk. You know, he's so used to that vow of silence that he just doesn't want his voice to be too heard.
  16. I get out of work at 7:45. It's a 20 minute drive home. Will I make it to see the show? You bet your donkey I will.
  17. See, I'll already be at Cedar Point three times before the trip, so I'd really like to stay away from there. Any other ideas? EDIT: If we did a Six Flags Great America trip, how much would that cost to get from the train station to the park?
  18. Actually, driving is out of the question. Both of the vehicles we have are lease vehicles and we can't go over the miles. Basically, we have to take the Amtrak train out of East Lansing (LNS) or fly out of Capital City Airport in order to get wherever. My mother prefers to take the train, if that makes any difference.
  19. EDIT : Scroll down to my latest post...
  20. Magnum XL-200 at Cedar Point, or maybe Gemini. I haven't decided quite yet.
  21. "*insert name of ride on screen* is definately a top-ten coaster." [/PAUL RUBEN] Sorry, I figured a Paul Ruben crack would be good here... *~* Jon "It's divine!" Roost
  22. ^ you mean torturing? I honestly can say I've never heard of tourting someone. I still go for Maverick elsewhere. The whole "bear" thing is what's got me wondering right now.
  23. Mill Race was completely demolished for the construction of Raptor. If I'm not mistaken the boats are now used on Dorney Park's Thunder Creek Mountain log flume. The only other part that was saved was the sign, which is now in Cedar Point's sign shop. Everything else was thrown away.
  24. No, that's not what I meant. I've seen POVs as well as lots of pictures, and it just looks like a boring, tame, useless ride to me. I have a thing against Arrow looping coasters, probably because I'm too tall for the restraints and it every ride on one results in pain. I'll be up at PCW/Marineland/MFI/SFDL again this summer for a quick trip, and maybe I'll be proven wrong, but for now my judgement stays that it's another Arrow piece of crap.
  25. I visited the Falls this past year on my way to Pennsylvania, and "stopped" at Marineland and Martin's Fantasy Island. Marineland is only like a five minute drive from downtown, so it's not that far away. I wish I would have gone in and rode Sky Screamer and at least given Draggin' Mound a pity ride (for the credit, of course), because the park looks very nice. Did the same thing for MFI though, stood outside to get some pictures and then drove away. Now when I look back at those pictures I want to ride Silver Comet. BADLY. Anyways, I think a Topple Tower would be a great addition to Marineland. They can add that to their "To Do" list like everything else and maybe it will get done by 2010.
