Geauga Lake Discussion Thread
Dailey Enterprizes replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Even if someone made the argument that the park wouldn't have survived as long without the purchase by Cedar Fair then I hope it's realized that the cost of land may not have been raised so high that development or even another possible buyer for the park was made impossible. -

Has anyone else considered similar circumstances with another park chain? Why was it so acceptable for Cedar Fair to do this? When Kennywood bought Idlewild in the nineties they did it because it was a family oriented park. Perhaps they had the opportunity to buy West View Park too, but in their words "...it doesn't make sense to buy a park that's just going to compete with their existing one." They actually said that about Conneaut Lake Park, but I'm sure the same logic applied. I think Cedar Fair should have never gotten involved with Geauga Lake. Even Robb called this from the very beginning. -

Wow, like I don't even know what a Euro is worth (I plan to google it, don't worry ), but 40 anything for that would seem like a rip off. I know that's not what it was worth, but when I'm drunk I get totally paranoid about my money and I would probably die of a heart attack in that situation. -

^ I like (hate) how he tries to make himself look innocent by saying "...and end the existence of this wonderful roller coaster." What a bunch of bull. I'm not going to be one of the people crying over its demise, but there are people who have have had wonderful memories on it and I'm sure it will upset many people. -
TR - Waldameer 8/30-9/4-2010
Dailey Enterprizes replied to TJinPgh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That was a very nice TR of Waldameer. It's nice to see some consistency in the trip reports for the park even though it was the end of the season and some of the employees have gone back to school. I think the water park is under rated even though it is a bit small. I think everyone should make it a part of their visit, so they feel like they can experience the whole park and not just the rides. I agree the food isn't the best, but that's why I always save plenty of room and hit up Sarah's Diner at the bottom of the hill. I haven't experienced the campground because that isn't my thing, but the Diner is fantastic especially if you love Coke, curly fries, and hot dogs. -

Aw the Corn Popper makes me weep for the Swingaround to return. I guess there's something to flying out over the lagoon and the stage. -

I guess I don't feel too bad for only going to Cedar Point once and never going back. Yeah they have more roller coasters than anywhere else... I would gladly give them a cookie for that one, but roller coasters alone just don't do it for me. I rather hit up Coney Island in New York or Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Then again I didn't make it to any parks this year, but maybe if they did something with the Mean Streak like freakin' fix the damn thing, then maybe I'd consider going back to Cedar Point. As for Geauga Lake, well Cedar Fair deserves a kick in the shins for that one. I don't really care if it was "smart" from a business point of view because they screwed a local community that's in their own damn state. I am not even from Ohio and it makes me peeved because it was the last remaining park in that area (Euclid Beach and Idora Park come to mind) Now all they have is Geneva and they have to drive an hour or so to Waldameer. I really do miss the old Sea World part because our elementary school used to make it a tradition that the 5th graders would go at the end of the school year. That was probably the most memorable moment for me back then. Why couldn't Busch have bought the park back? -

It's Cedar Fair who still owns it, correct? If they do then they're stupid as hell for wanting to demolish it. Also any park that has the money to buy the coaster and doesn't is stupid too. Buy it even if there's no where to put it in case of expansion one day. That's what happened to the Comet from Crystal Beach I believe. -
Eh, I probably do it, but I am usually not doing it on purpose and it will happen if I wake up early in the morning and I go back to sleep and try to "pick up" where I left off in the dream. I have a very imaginative brain, but I try to turn it off when I sleep because I can never get to sleep if I am always thinking.

^ While I agree that the coaster deserves a much better reopening it's just bad timing. I doubt they even advertised this other than by word of mouth. It's the end of the season and Blue Streak or not everyone is going into fall mode. I would like to take the drive up to Conneaut and even document it if I can, but I need to work and save money. It would be cool to film it because I have access to HD cameras. I probably wouldn't do an onride with one though.

What part of Orlando are you from? My older sister lives near Winterpark and speaking of education TC; her boyfriend, graduated from Full Sail about a year ago. Here's his website if you want to see the kind of music he produces. -

Who says that if you bought it that you'd have to move it? I am just saying that if someone wanted to buy it they could lease the land it sits on and just run it where it currently sits. Of course, that's with the ride being properly inspected and such. Roller coasters all over the United States opened up along side streets next to hot dog vendors, etc. back in the early 1900s and were privately ran just like the Coney Island Cyclone and Tornado (RIP). -

^ That's funny that you said that about Sony because I have a new-found dislike for them. The PS3 sucks compare to what PC's can do now (I'm referring to the upcoming release of Mafia II and my mediocre PC platform is going to outperform the PS3 apparently ) and I think their business ethics are lame. I had a video on youtube that I used in my film makers class and it was disabled because I had to use some shots from "Inside Man" to illustrate a point. What a bunch of tight butts... -

I'd burn it because that's what the Joker would do... put it in the bank, pay off all immediate family's debts, build my dream house and live in peace for the rest of my life. -

Those are awesome pictures. Sometimes I wish I was born earlier so I could have experienced these parks when they were charming and traditional. I love that shot of BGE's Lochness Monster with no Griffon or Alpengeist because I feel the atmosphere is more important than having some "Rollercoaster Tycoon" type skyline. As for the King's Dominion pictures they make me want to watch the movie "Rollercoaster." -
The Mafia II demo is out on consoles and for PC (through Steam). It's an awesome video game and I can't wait for the completed version. Me and a million other fans have been waiting for this game since its announcement which was around the same time as the announcement for GTA IV.
