Skara Sommarland Discussion Thread

They probably hope that the people going to Liseberg will visit Skara as well, but they are always hoping for that. I don't think the park will go out of their way to try and have a big attraction to compete with Helix, nor are they in an economical place for it. The last two coasters didn't boost the attendance as much as wished, and I think future additions will be based on the success of this new slide, if it will be another year of not making a profit I don't think they will put anything medium or major in for next season. As always though, I would LOVE to be proven wrong (especially on this one) Seems like a medium size RMC wood ride with a few inversions would be perfect here, both in scary-ness and in investment size, further down the road. I thought of this as well, but I don't think it will be to much of a problem. The old free fall slide never had a capacity problem, but on peak days it could be some wait for it, but that goes for all water parks. I don't think another slide would have increased the cost to much if they were building a new tower for it, but now they are reusing the old tower (it's only big enough for one), and they are also using the old slides "concrete hole" in the ground to dig it down, so if they wanted two slides they had to do a lot more ground work as well. -
The last pictures are from middle of February, so I wrote on their Facebook page and asked for fresh pictures, and 3 hours later this popped up. Looks like the water coaster will actually be the one with the 3 big chambers, and it looks really cool. The lazy river will pass right under the complex as well.

Skara Sommarland Discussion Thread

To be honest there are no water slides with trap doors anywhere near here, closest I can think of is in Germany, so when this thing hits TV commercials in May, I think it will be able to pull a decent amount of new people into the park. Remember that they don't need to attract a big amount of new visitors with this addition, just enough to turn a profit. The last years they have been only a few thousand visitors away from that. If the addition proves to be a success, I find it safe to assume that we will see more thrilling rides into the park, if not then I don't know what they could do to turn a profit. I really don't see Helix affecting any of this. -

Skara Sommarland has reported that they are reaching out tho a new audience with this new ride (the park hasn't showed a profit since the financial crisis started in 08). They now want people in their 20's with no children to come to the park as well. Hopefully it will be successful, because if this attraction can't get a profit for the park, then I don't know what will. If it is indeed successful, then I suspect we will see a large thrill ride for the tivoli next year. -

That might actually be the coolest looking spinner in the world. -
I don't really think the park decided to neuter it, it's just small adjustments made over time into what it is now. The ride is still crazy fun, and it has helped with removing a few of the really uncomfortable positions that could occur at a few specific points on the track. Plus I almost haven't seen any cars coming in upside down this year, that might be a reason to. And I'm sure that for TPR ERT they will let you ride with only 2 persons, both on the same side.

I wished I could have ridden it a few years earlier to compare to how it was this fall. I got one ride on it were only the MCBR braked the ride slightly, and there wasn't that much of a difference compared to when all the trims touched. I can imagine that it most have been pretty heavily trimmed earlier.

You are correct that Insane has been adjusted or "neutered" not to spin as much. It was a little bit because people complained about the ride being a bit uncomfortable, but mostly because it was pretty tough for the ride attendants to fill up the wagons, since they only allowed cars with 2 or 4 passenger in it, splitting up groups and couples. Now they can send them out with all from 1-4 riders in them, simplifying the job for the crew and upping the capacity. The only combination that they won't allow is 2 on one side and none on the other.

This park is actually starting to take shape (unlike all the other water parks that's announced for Thailand)! At first I didn't think it was going to be anything special, as most water parks Polin are involved in are small to medium in size. After they now finally updated their website, and added the ride's and a park map, boy was I wrong. This will be a pretty big park, very similar to the new Cowabunga in Las Vegas. Good for me, since I often go to Thailand for vacation (to bad that I don't like Pattaya, but I'll stand it for this). Here's a pretty standard complex with a Bowl, a Boomerango and a Pipeline (nice and shiny, thanks to RTM molding). Here's the major complex. The mat racer in there looks insane, with that downhill and up part followed by the octopus ring's and then another drop. This complex will also feature and trap door looping slide (pictured above, bottom left slide), a free fall slide, a pipeline with 3 big chambers (the big white thing, high in the air), and a King Cobra with an alien theme instead. There will also be a water coaster similar to a Master Blaster, and also Polin's biggest slide to date, the Magic Sphere (picture from Polin's website below) which is a big family raft standing almost 75 feet tall. That one will be themed to Ben 10, and an alien space ship, not the theme in the picture. The park will also have a clone of the giant play structure from the Las Vegas Cowabunga Bay, with a Cartoon Network theme, a lazy river, surf arena and a huge wave pool with a stage at the wave chambers, for in-pool concerts. There will also be a children's area, an adult pool and all those standard water park things. Settings for the park, in the sunset: Promotion video Website Here I might have missed something, there website isn't that detailed about the slide's yet. Looks like Polin is really stepping it up right now, and I can't wait to try out this new park, and the one in Las Vegas, whenever I get the chance.

To all of you who have ridden more than one mega-lite, is there really any difference between them? Except for the "more rattle" one one, or one running amazing due to the weather that day. I know it's a hard question to get the real answer for, due to every day being different, but for you who have ridden several of them, please share you're experience. And it's nice to have Geforce back on the top!

Big news from Skara today! Last year they installed a 4-lane mat racer in the water park, the first Proslide in Sweden. After the success of that installation they will (to my delight) continue their new found cooperation with Proslide. Big Drop will replace the old free fall slide (which in the 80's was the most bad-ass slide in Europe) with a new one. It will be the highest in Europe, using a trap door, and it will be the first of them (trap door slides) to go under ground. And the old slide, as you can see, digging down the new one in the ground won't be that hard. -
Yes, there are a lot of tourist in the area, but it's still almost an hour away from where the bridge enters Ă–land. Don't get me wrong, I'm very positive to a project like this, I just don't think the location is dynamite. Also I haven't heard anything new about this project, except this video, since I first heard of it almost 4 years ago.

Sounds really awesome, as I love old tale's of witches, but I'm not really feeling the location of it.

Good for them, but the ride is still a piece of s***t. -
Calypso water park, who opened in 2010, has been a huge success, and seen gigantic crowds in the summer. For the upcoming season they will do like Canada's Wonderland and Holiday World, and install a ride they already have, due to the big demand for it. They will get a big lazy river, named Kongo, with an African theme. The total cost of the ride will be $6 millions. There is no word yet if the river will be the same style as the current river, or if they will go with the more adventurous rafting type of river.
