Hansa and Heide are one day parks. If there is one of the parks you should consider spending two days in it is Phantasialand, that place is awesome. If it's your first time in Germany doing parks you should do a day each at the three parks. -

Ikaros have lost it's building permit, in a very similar manner as Wildfire. It seems to really be raining crap on Parks and Resorts at the moment. I do not take this to serious though. The Land and Environment court rejected the previous permit due to them finding the noise studies to not be satisfactory. Gröna Lund have now appealed it to the Land and Environment high court (last level). I do believe they will get the permit very soon, there is no way that Ikaros can make more sound than any attraction they already have, which seems to be what is claimed in the appeal. The court however reject the neighbors will to stop the attraction, they just need a more detailed noise study. This should be more of a quick fix as compared to the mess going on with Wildfire. -

Redundant is a very strong word, I would not use it. More like they need to remove it if they want to keep investing. To be honest I can't remember that they have shown the castle on any previous concepts they shown, so it's not unlikely that it's getting axed. Knowing Liseberg it's most likely sold already, they are definitely not just going to waist such an asset. Not really a problem, it needs new columns for the top hat section, thats all. -

I agree. It's hard to say how I would react if I wasn't an enthusiast, but I tend to be a pretty tolerante guy. In Sweden it is seen as a civil right to complain about every little aspect in life, so we do have a culture of these things. It's important to remember though that it have always been this way, it's not entirely related to the coaster itself. The town is working on improvements but I doubt they are going to fix a new road or any large scale solution. There is a living area down toward the water, eastern of the park. From Wildfire to there it is almost only downhill. The environmentalist have focused almost entirely on the animals in this question when it comes to noise levels. There is a protected nature area just outside the park that some have brought up but the main focus seems to be the animals and for the neibourghs it's the noise. -

Kolmården Discussion Thread

The ride is not going anywhere, at least that's not my prediction. Kolmården have now (as of yesterday) applied to the local town for a zoning plan. The really good thing with this ride is that nothing has changed, Kolmården still enjoys the full support from the town. They bring in some big cash for the local economy. Since they are so important for the town the zoning plan will get the highest priority and the plan should be ready in time for the upcoming summer. The problem is that the zoning plan is likely to be appealed the same way that the build permit was. First the town decides, if that gets appealed then it goes to the County Board and then it goes to the Land and Environment Court. There is also a fourth level, the Land and Environment High Court. It's hard to say if the last one will try it again, they usually don't treat that many cases. But given the high profile of the case... It is unlikely that a zoning plan is voted into affection before 2018. The million dollar question is if they can operate it next season or not. The parks lawyer and the town are now going through the verdict and the law to try and find a way for it to happen. It will likely take a few months to study it through and they said that they are hoping to release more about it around christmas. The environmentalists are pissed because they feel that there was to little studying about the environmental impacts of the ride before the build permit was given, something the final ruling now shows supports for. They conclude that the studies before building permit was granted was not satisfactory. They do however note in the ruling that the environmental damage is already done, so I don't think the environmental impact have been given to big consideration in the final ruling. I haven't had the energy to read through all of it, but the main focuses seems to be noise levels, traffic situation and the impact on the animals. Almost all of the people who have appealed are neighbors who simply don't want the ride to be there. The impact on the animals are probably not to big. The parks own experts have given interviews stating that the animals closest by the ride only cared about it the first few days and then didn't really care that much. It is also a thing that they easily can study and dig deeper into during the zoning process. The traffic situation is harder to resolve. The town and the park is always working on improvements to the infrastructure to and around the park, but the road is crappy and it's quite a drive from the highway (10 miles). It's not gonna be improved overall anytime soon. The good thing for Wildfire however is that it's not as big a draw for the attendance as the family attractions is. For an example the new family area themed to Bame that was added last year, that nobody have been complaining about, drew bigger crowds last year than Wildfire did this year. The noise levels are unlikely to go away, the neighbors simply don't want the ride there (well not all of the neighbors care, but around 30 households do). They can cover the drop and add noise screens though so it is fixable. The legal system is very different from the US here. There is not as much money in it and it's not as big a part of the society as well. Sure a good lawyer is always charing more etc, but in general people and groups cannot affect things as much as they can in the US. The protection for individuals is very strong though, in this case the neighbors. That was a bit different. Gröna Lund have a zoning plan in place, so they don't have to apply for build permits for their rides. The problem with Eclipse was that it is so big that the town considered it to be an actual tower and not an amusement ride. -

I haven't really been updating the process too much to the forum over the last year since construction resumed. In general one can say that it got appealed to the highest level possible, there is no level above this. It's not usual for the Land and Environment High Court to try these kind of cases, but they found there to be reason to take up the case and the process have been going on this last year. There is no way of telling what will happen now, but they are not going to make them tear the ride down (as standard procedure they will however be asked to tear it down, not doing so will likely result in some fines to pay for the park). The park will likely apply for a detailed plan for the area, they are probably prepared for this outcome. Usually it takes years to create a new zoning plan, but the park have the full support of the town so it is likely to go much faster in this case. Problem is that such a zoning plan will also be appealed through all the same levels as the building permit was, so it won't really be a quick process. The only thing we can be certain of is that it is very uncertain how it will unfold. We have to wait a while and see how it plays out, but there is no reason to worry for the rides being. The question is if it will be able to operate under some kind of exception until the zoning plan is finished or if it will be closed until a final plan is granted. -
That actually look really awesome!

Everything we assumes is just pure speculation at this point. It sounds like this may have had some effect but there is also another thing to consider. In this photo (I don't want to post the photo here in the feed, it's creepy) we can see that the way the raft is stuck standing straight up is due to a distance between the turning point of the conveyor belt and the next surface that the other raft is standing on. Without that "hole" in between the situation might have been different. We don't know if it was built with this distance or if something broke and caused that "hole" in which the raft is standing in. (Also without that "hole the raft may have flipped completely up-side-down or maybe not at all). I don't want to speculate to much, we really need to wait and hear what the people who actually works with this concludes.

Intamin also does a lot of the work on the launch in house* compared to other manufacturers. They sure have their unique sound which is totally awesome. Lisen't and enjoy! * In house may be a strong word, but as opposed to buy a completely finished system. -
