Stuart-J
i heard about this as well, apparantly it will be bigger than Universal Studios Hollywood......wonder if they could build more universal parks in europe.

thomas2
If this is true, than it's another prove that there's a coaster/themeparkboom in the Far East.
Satoshi
^ yeah this gotta be theme park boom like japan if that cool plan would suppose to be true stuff!!
rollermonkey
The Singapore Universal Studios rumor is quite believable. The proposed location is very tourist friendly, and was the site of a small amusement park previously. The Sentosa Island area has been looking for new development for quite a few years. The Genting group which owns and operates amusement properties in and around Malaysia (casinos and hotels as well as parks) is supposedly the party pushing for the Universal tie-in. iZak
They've been looking to build a park in Singapore since before they started building in Japan... I'd love to see it happen, but again, I don't know if the current management will allow it.
Gnome
i heard about this as well, apparantly it will be bigger than Universal Studios Hollywood......wonder if they could build more universal parks in europe. by bigger do they mean the actual theme park? Because if that's the case, then that's not very big.
Adriel
Hello!!! More update can be found here... http://www.screamscape.com/html/universal_studios_singapore.htm Finally, the plan has been confirmed. Even the newspaper from Singapore said that it has been confirmed. The park is likely to be finished by 2010 and is bigger than the Hollywood one and has more than 20 attractions including (rumor) Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man and Revenge of the Mummy. rollermonkey
Of course the Hollywood Universal Studios isn't really all that big... I hope that my next ship goes to Singapore after they finally get a new amusement park!
the sound
Why are all the big companies going to Singapore? C'mon Peoples, AUSTRALIA!
rollermonkey
Er, as much as I like visiting Australia, (I can't seem to get there during the coaster season, though.) Singapore really is a world class city, a major shipping and air hub as well as a tourist destination. Plus, they throw around some mad cheddah when they want to make real tourist attractions. scruffy
I just hope some of the newer rides make their way to the US parks.
weesen
Genting won!!! Universal Studios is a go. This new park boasts 7 (count them) themed areas: Hollywood Boulevard - featuring Twister Cartoon Studios Waterworld Lost World - featuring Jurassic Park the Ride Egypt - featuring Revenge of the Mummy the ride Super Hero City - featuring Hulk Coaster (looks like there will be a cobra roll over the water like in IOA followed by a vertical loop, not sure about launch though) and Spiderman the Ride Backlot - Big Apple Also included is an all new river rapids ride themed to the animation feature 'Madagascar' entitled 'Journey to Madagascar', as well as an actual Dreamworks animation studio. Yikes!! Can't wait for it to happen 2010!!

(sigh) I know. Australia sucks compared to tiny little Asian Nations with big airports. BTW, Australia doesn't have a Coaster season. Were like Floridians, but it takes us longer to get to god parks (well, me anyway).

rollermonkey
Screamscape has a bunch of photos from the proposal for this park. The placement within the island itself was a bit surprising to me. I expected it to go in the undeveloped area on the west end of the island. For reference, the bridge at the bottom of the pictures connects Sentosa to Singapore's main island to the north. (So the model is viewed looking south.) They kept the cable cars from the World Trade Center (There are lots of buildings with that name if you didn't know that.) and the nearby 'mountain' on the main island, but it seems to have been extended, as the way they were originally and the last couple of times I made it out there, they came down fairly close to where the bridge meets Sentosa. Most of the current attractions on the island are getting plowed under for all this new development, but they kept the giant Merlion statue, the walkway up to it and some of the gardens. weesen
I also noticed from the model that most of the themed areas are covered: Hollywood Boulevard, Cartoon Studios, Backlot-Big Apple, Supero Hero City even Egypt area. This probably accounts for the high annual ranifall we get. One thing bothers me. There's usually the Universal globe outside the park. I saw it in the concept art but don't seem to find it in the model. Also can't really find the entrance. Wonder whether it is by the Bullring end or the Sentosa marquee? ECZenith
OoOoO... very interested to compare the new Hulk to the existing one. The model looks incredible, should be a beautiful resort.
the sound
I noticed a banner on the conception artwork post on Screamscape a few Sesame Street Characters. That should be awesome! Who cares about the other rides when there is a Sesame Street themed area!
weesen
The latest video from channelnewsasia website showed that there will be attractions based on Fast and Furious as well as a highlights version of Wicked!
rollermonkey
I wonder if the highlights version of Wicked is the same as what they ran at USJ this summer?
weesen
Quite likely. Still wondering what kind of ride Fast and the Furious would be? Another note, the Dreamworks Studio would be located at the Hollywood Boulevard area. The Universal Globe looks like (from concept art) it's going to be located in the park and not at the park entrance like the other 3 parks. Xme3
With underage prostitutes galore.
rollermonkey
^ No, no, no. You are confused. The underaged prostitutes are in Thailand. In Singapore, there's really only one whorehouse, affectionally referred to by US Navy sailors as 'Four Floors of Whores.' It's near Orchard Road, but a little to the east. I've not partaken, but I've heard far more stories than I ever needed to. In Thailand, they are simply everywhere, no real need to search or bribe a cabbie. Hmmm. Is this post still PG-13? On topic, if they open this place, will the common abbreviation be USS? United States Ship or Universal Studios Singapore?
