Kennywood Swing Shot too dangerous?

Ok our local news station decided to be well way out of line in my opinion. Tell me what you think about this news story.

I think its a load of crap! I mean its not even that big. What does our news station know about thrill rides!?!??! Im riding it dangerous or not! lol Yes this is my local news station too! So yeah IMO this is just stuff said by the news, nothing important!

I think they do this to piss off Thrill Seekers. I think it's hilarious of how bad their attempts to scare us are.

Also..DERRR!!! Of course pregnant women and people with heat conditions shouldn't ride any thrill rides at all!! Common sense tells you that much!!

It's sort of like having an article title saying Can Bananas Kill Your Children? and then having the article say, "No, of course not! Bananas are delicious and healthy. Everyone loves bananas."

That's the thing. Your news station is asking is this ride too dangerous, without proving otherwise. How is that good reporting of any kind?

It basically just said "is the ride too dangerous?" and then quoting the stats of the ride. But didn't explain anywhere why this would be dangerous.

Yaa!!! Paul thats the stupid "eye catcher"! That was kinda my point in my first post. It had that title but the article had nothing to do with it!! The whole time I was reading and watching it said nothing about it being too dangerous! What would of been appropriate is this~ "NEW THRILL RIDE". If they had that up at least we wouldn't have been waiting to see why it was dangerous and then get disapointed and discoraged afterwards because they never wrote or talked about it. My god the media is stupid and dumb!!! Who ever decided on that title is pretty lame and didn't think it through as to what the reader would be thinking or reacting to the article after that title!!

One of the most intense rides in the country?? That is just stupid, the S&S Screamin Swings arent intense at all. Very gentle rides in my opinion.

I didn't read the article- I watched the video clip and its odd because the topic stated in the title is never addressed in the newclip. That goes all the way back to 5th Grade English! That your title/main idea should be discussed in the report to follow- it isn't its just media BS!

Perhaps people may be reading into the text differently. I personally didn't find the article to be in bad nature. Although some of the wording may indicate the story is a hash-towards Kennywood.

I believe the article is exploring that the themepark is trying to create a buzz about the new attraction by combining our "fears" of speed and height with SAFETY IN MIND...that balancing act is the same with rollercoasters in that designers are trying to push the envelope in technology, but the safety features designed into the rides now are safer than even in the 70's-80's. Just ask anyone in these forums that actually operate rides or have in the past...I have personally done both from a ride operator, to a engineering/design (classes and projects), to a maintenance technician (and talking to the ride design teams themselves)..

 

Look at the ending article:

Observe how NO riders are being put on the attraction as guinea pigs and "take-your-chances" on if you survive or not...perhaps the story was written as an observer (general public) about the ride, rather as an enthusiast or an extremist ride junkie....there was another post on this forum that observed the same thing about the article...in this case, I believe the article was fair and objective in their perception....

Now...onto that other link...where we ALL have a BAD perception on the media....lol! I believe this was noted by Rob himself...
