coasterknutt Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I don't know if anyone else really read the license plate on the teaser video, but what I noticed is the expiration date; the tag said "Jan 15" the tag number said "DW 2016", which got me thinking, has something at the park already closed for good OR will it close at the end of the 2015 season which happens to be in JANUARY? but that got me really thinking after I watched the teaser video and I'm being honest when I say this too, I'm not getting the feeling that its going to be a roller coaster, trust me I hope I'm wrong about this but I think it's a ride simular to the Chevrolet Test Track OR Radiator Springs Racers! Heavily themed to the 50's time era, You hear the great hit songs from that time and are transported back into the fifties era BUT of course there is a point in the ride where your challenged to a "drag race" and your launched to speeds up to 70 miles an hour going over hills, sharp turns, through tunnels, and other close calls all before crossing the "finish line" and make it safely home! Yes I know it's WAY out there But I think it could be a possibility. What do you guys think?
coasterknutt Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Don't get me wrong I do love roller coasters But I'm not getting a roller coaster vibe from the teaser video YET, I mean it's still really early and all but I got more of a dark ride vibe... But an way I guess we will know soon enough!
coasterfreaky Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 ^We know its a coaster b/c Dollywood told us so. Go back in this thread and find where they talked about 2016 being the year that they build a coaster on the monetary scale of Wild Eagle. That was around the time of the $300 million/10 year expansion announcement. Nothing has changed since that time, that has been announced. We have discussed this a lot already. Clearing has already started at the area around the Rockin Roadway-hillside. RR is still on the DW map, so I imagine it will stay open up until they need to close it to clear out the area. They could complete tasks outside of the park for a good while.
maverickpoint Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Yeah we already know it will be a coaster. We are all still unsure as to what kind of coaster though. Hopefully we find out on the 20th.
coasterknutt Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Ok, if your right about it being a coaster; I haven't heard or seen anywhere that it has been confirmed that it is a coaster. All I've heard or seen is it being one of Dollywood biggest investments with a expense value of Wild Eagle. Could it be that we have assumed it is a coaster because they used Wild Eagle in the discussion?
Shavethewhales Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I wouldn't get my hopes up too high for the announcement on the 20th. I don't see it making the most sense to announce a major 2016 right now. That's just telling people "forget about this year, wait till next year to visit". SDC didn't announce Outlaw Run until August even when it was half-built and in plan view.

Wild Eagle was announced in September and I know FCE was announced in October so we probably won't hear any major announcement until fall , late summer if we're lucky.
dstephe9 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 But also depending on how big the coaster is you will see tons of work going on so people would already know a coaster is in the works.. But who knows, I really can't imagine what else they could be announcing unless they are announcing a new phase of dreammore??? It could be really anything I just can't imagine what
Intimidator305 Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Dollywood's investments have been overwhelming recently with roller coasters (and significant ones might I add) in 2012, 2014, and 2016 - not to mention a massive resort and water coaster at Splash Country. It's great to see the park thriving so much. The park has doubled in size over the last decade and not many other parks in the country have done anything close to that - especially with the economy dip in the middle of that. It sure didn't stop Dolly! ...well Adventure Mountain was delayed a season

FireChaser Express was actually announced in August. We still don't know what is being added to the water park if anything. Another possibility for the announcement. I still believe there will at least be a tease to 2016 attraction if not a full announcement.

Agreed - No way 2016 gets announced until late summer. They will have to announce the closure of Rockin' Roadway eventually if it is indeed closing.
I305forever Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I expect to tease it and drop some hints but not release any solid information. Announcing it this early just doesn't make financial sense.
coasterknutt Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 ^It's a coaster. Ok, I am in no saying its not; but I am saying they didn't outright say it was either.
chickenbowl Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 ^It's a coaster. Ok, I am in no saying its not; but I am saying they didn't outright say it was either. I'm pretty sure they did outright say that actually... I agree with most, why would they announce for 2016 this early and discourage out-of-towners to postpone their 2015 plans? It would be exciting if they did start to have a new public teaser campaign started though!! I'm really hoping for a terrain coaster! Maybe launch? Maybe wood? Hopefully slightly family oriented (not saying a weak coaster, but fun for a wider age-range At 42-48" requirement, less inversions, more airtime!) I hope this RMC/Herschend relationship is strong after OR cause Dollywood has a lot of potential to really fill out their coaster collection here!!
Trevor Hamilton Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I'm calling it right now. It's gonna be a Mack launched coaster themed to 1950's cars. It'll take the place of Rockin' Roadway. They need a coaster in that area, anyways.

Honestly, I'm intrigued as to why they would say "Oh our new ride for 2016 is going to be a roller coaster" because Dollywood likes to keep things in the bag "quiet" until it's time to open the bag!

Well for big coasters there is no way to hide it.. The year before wild eagle opened I was at Dollywood opening week and the ground work was already in place and it was an easy guess they where probably building a coaster.. By mid summer you could really tell it was a coaster. They say ground work has already started on the 2016 ride as well.. So in a month or two it'll probably be very clear what they are doing especially the way the ground will be cleared and with all the markers.. They can easily drop more hints saying its a coaster now, they just won't tell us what type it is.. Haha Its like the new parking lot.. At first a lot of us thought it was going to be ride until it was clearer that they where just cleaning out a big level area and demolishing everything in it! Then we knew it was one of two things.. A parking lot or a building BC they would have left the terrain if it was a coaster.. That's just how Dollywood is
maverickpoint Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) FireChaser Express was actually announced in August. Something was announced in October of 2013 , I must be thinking of the POV release. Edited March 13, 2015 by maverickpoint

I remember cause there were teasers leading up to the announcement and I remember being at my dads house during that time which was October.
Canobie Coaster Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Just because we know it's a coaster doesn't mean that it takes the thrill out of the announcement. People knew Kings Island was getting a coaster for Banshee and the same goes for Holiday World with Thunderbird, yet those were two of the more anticipated and hyped-up announcements in recent years. We can speculate what type of coaster it will be, and with Dollywood's track record, it should deliver.
maverickpoint Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 The anticipation is killing me ! I can't wait to travel to Pigeon Forge next year. Will probably go in September of 2016 in case there are any delays in construction on whatever it is they're building. Would hate to go late spring/early summer and have it not even be finished.

It was originally and officially announced in August, I covered the media event. Please don't undermine my posts. Let's move on now, please. Edited March 13, 2015 by ernierocker

To maverickpoint: Please do not make another post about this. Your original post was referring to when the rides were officially announced. That was August, no reason to argue this further. Let's move on with the discussion. Thanks.
