Guy T. Koepp Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Yeah, Dollywood has always been really great about putting in something for the little ones at the same time that they do something big. I wouldn't put it past them at all. Honestly, if it does in fact go up on the other side of the hill, as everything seems to be indicating, how do we know they won't just get a Rockin' Roadway refurb. That would not disapoint in the least.
ernierocker Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 ^The new ride will need Rockin Roadway's footprint as the entrance will need to be inside the park. I assume part of the ride (including entrance plaza, queue, loading station, gift shop) will be in RR's footprint while the rest of the ride crosses over the service road and uses the hillsides over there.

Intimidator305 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 For those of you not as familiar with the park, here is the area. TONS of potential.

ernierocker Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 ^^It will use a LOT more of the area across the service road than that. But yes, you nailed the footprint for inside the park.
Guy T. Koepp Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Yeah, I'm hoping they use a lot of that hillside.

Just showing the current construction area. Not too much on that side yet. However, I'm assuming it'll go all the way back to the employee lot without giving the view of the parking of course... *CoughSixFlagsCough*
WildEagle2014 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Hi everyone! I was the one who sent the info to Screamscape the other day...I couldn't get any good photos because I only had my cellphone...but there were orange flags going all the way up the hillside next to the hr building. What is most exciting though...is there wasn't one..but two straight lines of flags going up the hill! One went up directly from the trolley road, while the other started a little bit to the side beside the HR building. Both sets of flags then when directly straight up the hill to where it looked like they meet at the top. Dual lift/launch hills? If I can get on my laptop later I'll save a screenshot of the area to explain a little better!

coasterfreaky Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Are they getting rid of the trams? No, they're replacing all the trams, reworking the parking lot and adding a trolley for the Dreammore Resort. I think I heard they may be fueled by natural gas.
cwgator Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Are they getting rid of the trams? www.local8now.com/home/headlines/Sneak-peak-of-whats-coming-to-Dollywood-in-2015-285287421.html ...Upon their entrance to Dollywood in 2015, guests will find larger and more easily navigable parking facilities, along with new trams to more efficiently transport them to the front gate....
jarmor Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 This recent development goes in play with the confirmed closure of Cas Walker's for this year's upcoming season. Could it be making way for a future lift hill? Will the current Rockin Roadway be closed after the 2015 season (as previously speculated) and it's ride station repurposed for a new coaster station? Dollywood is known for repurposing old buildings/structures for new rides (i.e. Thunder Express' old station reused for TN Tornado's station and Adventure Mountain's former "fire watch towers" reused as pass throughs for Firechaser Express). If Rockin Roadway closes, it will most likely upset the non-coaster riding segment of DW's guests, namely families with small children. Will the future Jukebox Junction have enough room to bring a new major coaster in 2016 and perhaps a smaller attraction for kids to replace Rockin Roadway? I think Cas has serviced his last car...but I dont see the building leaving. Maybe he sold the business to go spend more time with his kids playing cops and robbers...well this is the mountains, so cops and moonshiners! There is enough room to bring in a major coaster...or 2 in that area . Dual lift/launch hills? If I can get on my laptop later I'll save a screenshot of the area to explain a little better! I think a Duel lift/launch is exactly what dollywood needs...but that would probably never happen...oh wait, there is fire chaser express. Well, it will never happen AGAIN! Obviously we won't know any details until Dollywood decides to release them to us. For Wild Eagle there was clearing and footer construction right up until the announcement at Labor Day in September, then vertical construction took off almost immediately after the announcement. Not sure if they'll follow a similar timeline or not. I would expect them to use the RR station, but we will see what happens. Personally, I think there will not be a lift hill. I think it will be a Mack Launcher like Helix, with two launches - BUT THATS JUST ME - that's what I want to see on that gigantic hillside. Dollywood said project 2016's budget would be in line with Wild Eagles, so that pretty much rules out a woody, which are usually around $10-12 million'ish. The new coaster should be in the $20-25 million range - all part of the 10-year/$300 million grand plan that started in 2014. We're all just guessing and wondering too. We might have to wait 8 or 9 months to find out...ugh. Its up to DW to fill us in on the rest! I can confirm that we will know what it is before it's announced but you wont know WHAT it is...until its announced. Confusing, I know, but im sure everyone's gonna be high five'in once we KNOW what it is... Two launches...hummm...like maverick or batman and robin: the chiller? This will be the perfect location for a new coaster as I know many people have complained that the major coasters were all in the back of the park. As far as losing a flat ride, Dollywood has always been good with keeping their attractions balanced out, so I'm sure it will not be too long before they put something in for families to replace RR. They should make a new sign saying "major coasters to the front...major coasters to the back, take your pick"
coasterfreaky Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Jarmor, you get the Innuendo Award. I cant even....lord. Are you like 80% comfortable with this - 20%?? where is my church fan???
WildEagle2014 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Actual photos coming soon...this screenshot from Google Earth shows the approximate path of the two lines of flags I saw going up the hillside. I believe this pretty much proves this is going to be a dueling/racing coaster. Now...to figure out what kind! I'll still be rooting for either RMC or Mack Launched! Just look at the potential for this area though! There is a huge chunk of land back there that Dollywood new they would have a difficult time expanding into, so they are utilizing it the best way possible! While I'm sure the coaster will in no way cover the entire area I've outlined below...they've got quite the sandbox to play with, and this gets me to the point where I can't wait for 2016! Flag paths going up the hillside! Look at the potential!
coasterfreak101 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 high five'in Rocky Mountain launched duelers with a high-five element for $200, Alex.
coasterfreaky Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 ^^Awesome...wow. Thanks for posting that...lots of room, lots of terrain. ^Well, RMC is in the park working on Blazing Fury....so .... [fans self]
BlahBlahson Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 If this is a RMC dueling launched wooden coaster, I will move to pigeon forge and make the ride my church.
WildEagle2014 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 One thing makes me sad though...what's missing in this photo?
Guy T. Koepp Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 ^Dolly? A double burger with mushrooms, pineapples, pepper jack cheese, lettuce and teriyaki mayo? Bacon? Nicoli Tesla? Obama? Strippers? There's an infinite number of stuff that's missing. I'm just spitballin' here, but wouldn't it be easier to tell you what is in the picture?
DollyWould Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) One thing makes me sad though...what's missing in this photo? What's missing is the original "Welcome to Dollywood/I Will Always Love You" over head sign at the park's former parking lot entrance & exit. Hopefully is hasn't been destroyed. Perhaps someone in management had the foresight to preserve it. It should be put on prominent display to help commemorate the park's 30th Anniversary this 2015 season! Intimidator305 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I love the fact that this project seems huge (starting construction in January) and that it has the potential to have a brand new theme for Dollywood to work with and tackle. I'd imagine they could pull off a 50's vibe very, very well. I may skip out on the park this season and just get a season pass for 2016... although a year of skipping Dollywood is a sad year when you only live 4 hours away.
WildEagle2014 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Here's a few pics we got a couple of weeks ago...things are moving along nicely! I should be driving by there tonight and I'll see if I can nab a few more pics. That hole is where the main tram stop used to be. Quick look inside...the rest of the entrance plaza is getting some new concrete! The new ticket booth for the resort entrance! Wild Eagle and Thunderhead feel very exposed now....I hope it doesn't seem as bad when you are actually on the ride...maybe those trees will block most of the view in the summer.
