darklight_tr Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I rode Montu last year and earlier this month, and I had great rides on it. The trims before the Batwing were never functioning, and the MCBR didn't trim off much speed at all. Montu is my favorite invert! I wanted to mention Raging Bull @ SFGAm. There was never a time where it wasn't neutered, but it would be a much better ride if the third hill trims were never put on. Out of all of the B&M hypers that I have ridden, Raging Bull is easily the worst. I also vote for The Beast and Son of Beast, easily two of the worst wooden coasters that I have ever ridden, all due to rough, boring rides.
DallasAlvey Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Easy Ghostrider. It use to be so good and now it's super ultra rough.
Ryan King Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Easy Ghostrider. It use to be so good and now it's super ultra rough. I rode it about 2 weeks ago, and I actually found it to be one of the best rides Ive ever had on a Wooden Coaster! It just really depends on the weather, since wood does tend to warp and harden depending on the season. So luckily, I had a good ride! -Ryan
Scaparri Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I don't understand all this fuss either. Calling SOB a looping woodie was a marketing deception, as the loop was steel. So the Coney Island Cyclone, Villain, Voyage, Hades, etc are marketing deceptions because the structure is steel?
ginzo Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 I don't understand all this fuss either. Calling SOB a looping woodie was a marketing deception, as the loop was steel. So the Coney Island Cyclone, Villain, Voyage, Hades, etc are marketing deceptions because the structure is steel? No. It's the track material that determines whether the ride is wood or steel, not the supports. SOB's loop was 100% steel. Ugh. SOB was such a moronic idea. I really hope someone got fired over wasting all that capital. PKI is my home park. We could have got a B&M or Intamin hypercoaster for that amount of capital, and we got a gimmicky bottom 5 woodie instead.
Xtreme-me Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Goliath at SFMM was neutered from the day it opened i think. If they took they didnt use the brakes halfway through the ride, you know how crazy it would be?
viking86 Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 No. It's the track material that determines whether the ride is wood or steel, not the supports. SOB's loop was 100% steel. Actually the track was still wood so its definately not wrong to call it a looping woodie. It can easily be seen in this picture. http://www.coasterimage.com/pictures/kingsisland/sonofbeast29.html
Top Thrill Dragster Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 California Screamin', the second trim brake really kills last the part of the ride.
riccoaster Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 For texas id have to say texas giant and the rattler cuse it seems that they just keep getting worse through the years like they are'nt keeping up with them
coastercrazy216 Posted December 29, 2006 Posted December 29, 2006 Wild Cat at Hershey or is it Comet (I can't remember it's been awhile).
Mr Stratosphere Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 A post from Screamscape.com Stratosphere Tower - (1/3/07) Screamscape has heard an interesting story from Vegas visitors lately. As horrible as it sounds, it seems that the famous Big Shot atop the mighty Stratosphere Tower has been neutered somewhat. Sources tell us that the ride underwent a large rehab not long ago and that several changes were made, though the problem may be that these changes were conducted by Interactive Rides and not S&S Power, the ride’s manufacturer. This wouldn’t seem like that big of a deal at first given that Interactive Rides was started by former S&S Power employees, but the fact remains that the unfortunate side effect of certain ‘upgrades’ to the ride system has lessened the power of Big Shot.
fergusonat Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 The skid brakes on Thunderbolt at Kennywood just before the lift hill drop seem to be kicking in more than in past years. Still a great classic, but the lateral g's used to be much more powerful. The line of brakes before diving back into the ravine seem stronger in recent years as well
Reality15 Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I agree with Comet at Hersheypark completely. My first ride on it the trims weren't on, and it easily made it one of my favorite woodies ever. I got on it again right afterward, however, and the trims were on, making for just an average ride. As far as Cedar Point goes, I have to say the two neutered rides there are Magnum and Mean Streak. Mean Streak without the trims is actually a really great ride despite the roughness. Magnum without the trims going into the turnaround is easily one of my favorite steelies, but with the trims it's just not all that amazing.
CycloneMan Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Probably most of the Six Flags coaster I was ever on. And Hercules at Dorney Park.
