Eurosat at Europa Park

Those of you who have seen the Coaster Expedition volume 2 DVD may remember the quote I posted from this topic, which was made by one of Robb and Elissa's buddies.

 

I have never been to Europa Park, but Eurosat is always a coaster that I'm looking to learn more about (Space Mountain-type coasters always interest me). Coaster Kingdom, a british coaster site, had a very favorable review that went into detail about the ride, housed in a Spaceship Earth type dome.

 

So, I was interested to see the fellow from the DVD make this seemingly contradictory statement..."It's amazing, but I hate it!"...so this makes me wonder what's there to hate about this coaster? It looks impressive enough from the little I saw of it on the video. The only negative thing I've heard about Eurosat, is that the trains can be rather uncomfortable, especially for people with long legs.

Eurosat has pretty abrupt and violent turns, slaming the riders around. If you don't know what to expect you could get some bad bruses from it. For some people this is a reason to hate Eurosat, but for others (like me) that is a reason to love it.

Yes, it is EXTREMELY rough! But that is also the reason I love it! It'd be rather boring if it'd be smooth. The whole ride is very violent and fast. This gives you a strong out-of-control feeling you'll find a lot on Woodies. This is the only steel coaster with this feeling I like. It's just... part of it!

Eurosat is my favourite coaster. I rode it about 90 times and it's still the maincoaster of the park for me. Everything is themed with Space Theming . But this year it's with football theming because of the World Cup.

You have really the feeling of riding on a special coaster and with the music all the time you feel like flying through the orbit.

I also love this ride, (coasters in the dark always get bonus points in my book), but it is quite rough. The last time I rode it, I slightly dislocated my shoulder coming into the break run. I knew that it was a quick stop, so I was bracing my self really hard. Somehow I got thrown to the side and when my muscles contracted to hold myself up, a sharp pain went down arm from the back side of my shoulder. Not nice. I was really freaked out that I had messed up my arm, but the soreness went away by the next day. Anyways, I still love this ride and can only recommend it, although who the football theming sounds strange....

And this year theres no countdown before the First Drop.

Instead there's a mix between "Tor für Deutschland" (Goal for Germany) and the normal Eurosat Soundtrack.

I've been to the park so many times now, but never experienced a breakdown...

Maybe you were lucky. But I know that there were about 2 breakdowns (ca. 30min) when I was there the last 5 times.

And it has such a high capacity! You just keep walking in the qeue line.

Yes the high capacity is also a strong plus for this ride. When one train gets out of the station the next one gets in. I think there are less than 30 seconds in which a train gets through the station.

I just read the review on Coaster Kingdom and it seems like it is a rather good ride. Also, from everyone saying things here it got me thinking. That Eurosat is the German equivalent of Space Mountain.

No I don't think so, because Eurosat is older(1989).

And i don't think that there's not much legroom. I have problems with other coaster and their legroom but not with Eurosat.

Yes, it's the same type of lift. Euro-Mir, (that horrible spin til you puke coaster at the same park), also has a spiral lift.

Why is this lift called 'eggbeater' lift?

An "eggbeater" lift has a central hub with a pole that goes straight up the middle of the spiral which has two separate poles on either side of the center pole conected by arms holding them all together. This turns or spins slowy pushing up the train/car. The train/car has an arm that extends out from it in contact with one of the side poles of the"eggbeater" which pushes it up the lift. It looks like a huge egg beater at super slow speeds when it is turning or spinning.

Then there is the tire propelled or electric spiral lift without the aide of a central "eggbeater" to lift it up. It is lifted up the spiral independently by either tires or electricity that is on the track. So it pulls the train up on it own.

Now with that information and just to clear things up, does

Euro-sat actually have the eggbeater type of lift like the volare or the tire propelled/electric lift?

^ It has an eggbeater, but they put a huge cilinder inside so it doesn't look like an eggbeater.

 

Euro Mir also has the eggbeater, but that one is themed like a launchpad.

Talking about EuroSat, I just wanted to say that this year, for the World soccer championship, EuroSat will look like a huge soccer ball like the one that it's going to be used in the World soccer championship games.

I can't wait to see it!
