^^

I think they were put there because of the restraint snapping incident they had last year. And honestly, after riding it with them installed, you don't hit your head as much as you would expect to, if at all.

Posted

^Which restraint sapping incident? I hadn't hear anything. Anyway, I'll see for myself how the restraints are during the opening day .

Posted

^

I'm guessing the straps snapped from the strain put on them when the riders shoulders rest on them during the slow roll. The straps seem more built for holding back the rider during the launch then holding them in during the awkward heartline-less roll

Posted

^But I actually got the feeling that, during the roll, most of my weight was on my legs and not shoulders, and I'm not exactly short.

Posted

Even so, I don't think the straps on Intamins are very well made for inversions/when you get pushed against them (as you do on Furius Baco), on all other intamin rides with similar restraints, the coaster are heartlined, so you're never really being pushed against the straps. On FB, you do get pushed against them because of the unheartlined nature of wing coasters, even if it's not your full weight. I guess the straps just gave up after so many years of strain.

Posted

^Probably, the combination of negative and lateral Gs during the roll might just put enough pressure on them for them to snap.

Posted

That's what I was saying. They take flat metal, and bend it to the shape of the restraint. But, its like a spring, and its gets put under tension when they do this. If they were to bend it, put it into a mold to stabilize the shape, and then heat it up (called Heat Treating) it would relieve the stress, and harden the shape. It would never ever happen again.

But really, they are useless anyways, because like rcjp said, all your weight is on the lap bar.

Posted

They're mostly just there anyway to stop people from leaning to far forward before the launch so they don't get slammed into the back of the seat.

By the way, I'll be there for opening day, does anyone know what I should expect in terms of crowds? (11th April, Friday)

I'm really looking forward to getting there in April now. I'm going to be there pretty much the entire following week after the opening to hopefully avoid the crowds.

As for crowds on opening day, I think it will be more similar to weekends (30 min - 1 hour queues), because people will probably also be making the journey for opening day. I haven't been there on opening day before, but if I had to guess, I'd say it would be a bit quieter early in the day then get busier towards the afternoon as schools start ending and familys head there for the afternoon/evening/weekend.

^ I'm quite annoyed that I have no choice but to go there on opening day as I'm having a school trip and that will be the very last day of it. I guess if I were on my own I would choose to get the fast pass (or whatever they call it there) thingy but as I will be with a dozen of friends I can't force them to buy it too.

A small official video from a few days ago. It's narrated in spanish, but there are some nice perspectives so nevermind^^.

Yesterday, different media we're invited to discover the construction and status of the new ride. Here are a few of my own photos (through Channel Parks)

A few details:

- Ride duration is estimated to be 9~10min. That's pretty long for a splash battle ride!

- Three different zones: temple, jungle, cambodgien village

- Ride constructor is Mack. Ride animatronics from Sally Corp. We couldn't see them phisically yet

- Ride will include photo-ride and express (fast-pass) service. The park need to be careful about this due to the ride capacity!

- Ride opening: April 11th

^Thank you for the pics. Construction is looking great so far! Great theming and it will also give a new perspective of shambhala.

About the capacity, I've never been on a splash battle so how is it, usually?

This one is 726 pph. This is near to Hurakan Condor ride capacity, except that Angkor is a familiar ride. The ride have 14 boats (8 seats).

^ Indeed. IMO the park would need to allow fast-pass only in the most restrictive option, or otherwise this queue system will decrease strongly capacity of the ride!

BTW I updated the post to add 16 additional photos!

We'll see how the weather is on the 11th, and also how crowded it will be. I really want to try this out but if the park is awfully packed coasters are my priority (and my schoolmates too as I won't be going alone)

Wow that's great! I wonder how accurate those drawings are because that looks like a massive intamin accelerator coaster with a drop tower, like Kingda Ka! Really am looking forward to seeing what those 100 millions euros can do.
