Superbatboy
I seriously hope they go pretty tall with this one and not just one meter taller than stealth. The thing is, with a such a short ride (like KK) which is just a one trick pony, it has to be a strong trick and so I don't think a ride like stealth is reasonable in terms of what you get for a ride. KK and TTD may be very short but they do pack a very good punch due to their acceleration, speed and height. So I would really like to see something big (although now I know not as big as KK )By the way, how much did KK or TTD cost? TTD was $25 mil in 2003 which equates to $31 mil in 2014. Not sure how much Ka was but I'm sure a lil more than TTD
rcjp
^So that makes it around 22 million euros, still cheaper than shambhala. I guess they could have gone for the record if they wanted to (which would have been just brutal) but I'm not complaining about this one.
Atadritaata
So coasters were cheaper back then?? I thought it was the opposite given that the technology is the same but years later... just like for example computers and phones

raptor6
^ I'm guessing that he is referring to theming costs (which is pretty minimal for non-Disney and Universal parks), and possibly labor and material costs as well.
CoasterPrince
I'm guessing the coaster will be taller than 330ft if the drop tower is actually planned for the face of the ride. It'd be pointless to have the newest tower shorter than the tower already at the park.
Cyrbuzz
Kinda cool how they're multi-purposing the support structures with freefall rides on these accelerator rides. Think one day TTD will be rigged up like that? Then again they already have Power Tower so that's more likely a big No.
raptor6
^ True. But Power Tower feels weak when compared to an Intamin drop tower. If TTD was repurposed with a drop tower, I would be completely fine if Power Tower was sent to another park in the chain. This trade would make more room for new rides and the park would still have a drop tower.
Ed Farmer
...I would be completely fine if Power Tower was sent to another park in the chain... I would love for this happen purely to see how Dorney would market the addition of 4 more S&S towers on top of the 2 they already have.
gerstlaueringvar
^^ I think Intamin's two floor drop tower could work at CP very well. The capacity can reach up to 1,700 as far as I remember. Plus, something like Falcon's Fury could work very well. Has the train type been announced yet? I bet Intamin might come up with a brand new train style on it. scottjenkins
In a statement, Port Aventura ensures that among these attractions appear "the highest and most rapid vertical accelerator in Europe" I think we can rule out the height being over KK's 456 feet, otherwise they would have said "the highest and most rapid vertical accelerator in the world". I am however sooooo pumped about this as i've never experienced TTD or KK and the tallest accelerator i've done is Stealth which is pretty lame! willthegolfer
The fact that they used the phrase "tallest vertical accelerator coaster in Europe" rather than "tallest coaster in Europe" makes me think that this won't surpass shambhala in height. I do hope it is a giga though.
805Andrew
Wow! This looks awesome! I have relatives in the Barcelona area and every 3-5 years I go visit, so I am looking forward to experiencing this in person on a future visit.

Very much agreed on the needs-a-strong-trick aspect. TTD and Ka work because they're huge. Stealth is okay - it's got a strong acceleration to it and the airtime hill actually feels like something (though the brakes kick in so soon), but it doesn't have the height or speed of Ka so it's very disappointing in that regard. willthegolfer
^Ah, never thought of it that way, that could be the case. I certainly hope it's a giga, it would be cool to see a giga accelerator coaster since there isn't one in that height range.

Then again they already have Power Tower so that's more likely a big No. With the extra supports needed on Ka's tower, i don't think there is enough room for them on TTD as to where the Tower is located in the park. Plus walkways and buildings right in that area. I just don't see CP doing this with Dragster.

I do hope it is a giga though. There are a few points here. The first one is that when they say accelerator coasters instead of launched makes me wonder if they're only talking about intamin hydraulic launched rides instead of overall launched coasters which would mean all they had to do would be a ride that is on meter taller and one km/h faster than stealth (which would be seriously disappointing). However, I believe they must be talking about launched rides in general and that then means it has to go more than 99 mph which would automatically make it taller than shambhala. And then there is also the drop tower factor and, as someone has already said, it would be ridiculous (in his and my opinion) to build one smaller than Hurakan Condor, so it should be taller than 330 feet. I know I might be demanding too much but given that you have two rides in one and the money they will spend, in total, they could have gone for both tallest coaster in the world (which would maintain the drop record even after the polar coaster opens) and tallest drop tower too. Plus I'm sure intamin must have come up with a way of building the two rides with less expense given that they were planned to be together from the start, but that's just me... I don't see how you can stretch your second meaning out of that sentence - it seems very carefully worded so as to steal a record from Stealth so that it's marketable but if it was going to be the tallest coaster in Europe, they would've said so. rcjp
^So if it is going to be more like stealth why does the drawing show a support structure like Kingda Ka or TTD? I know this is just concept art but still I would assume they started from a picture of stealth or a ride of that size instead of one of the others just to give a fake illusion of speed. I know the words they used do raise important questions but I still find it strange that it would turn out to be so "small" especially with a drop tower attached to it. Also, in the concept art, the coaster stretches diagonally across the whole (what is now the) car park. If you measure that up, it's very much the length of Kk and TTD.
